      Even the 12600k is kinda embarrassed here, 4 extra cores for that difference is only showing the inefficiency of efficiency cores.
      Which Intel will make you pay for in the future
      ADL was to Trick Idiots into accepting a permanent devolution in methodology on an initial value proposition, Transparent. Then When everyone has been sold the LIE and equating e-cores to Real Cores “12600 is a 10 core” “13900 is 24 cores” then Intel will use the Consumers stupidity against them and Raise Pricing based on their PR BS Lies. And a 6 core i5 is £500 “ well it’s a 20 core for 500”
      Its the three cylinder engine, Now manufacturers have a few pence chip to stop the engine vibrating itself to destruction, Why four became the minimum standard Half a century ago. Now they can sell you Less (Consider Garbage for 5-6 Decades) for the Same Price

When the reviews came out using 360 AIOs, I was concerned about performance with air cooling. • @xeridea
      @xeridea Рік тому +2

      CPUs stock voltages are generally conservative, to ensure stability with low quality power supplies, VRMs, and also to improve yields, plus a bit of a safety buffer. For most people, -10 should be fine, with -15 or -20 being common. Seems to me they should bin CPUs better, and have more models, reserving better chips for X or K models, and lower quality to non X or K parts, allowing less conservative voltages for stock. Early chips probably more variance since later when non X or K chips are released, they have something to do with their lower quality chips. On the plus side, if you spend a few minutes setting undervolt, you can get less power draw, higher performance, or a mix of both. This is also true for GPUs.
      A quick way to achieve lower temps if you don't care about max performance is go to your windows power plan, advanced, set max processor state to 95%. It isn't exact, likely it will downclock 10-15% or so, and possibly drop power in half. Undervolting much better though. I can't undervolt laptop, so have this set to reduce fan noise and increase battery life.

Even on Zen3 you could already massively drop temps and powerdraw while simultaniously increasing the CPUs performance by using the curve Optimizer with a negative Offset, so its nice to see that this is still the case with Zen4, this eliviates quite a bit of the issues I saw with most of the reviews in terms of the temps and powerdraw of Zen4 and I guess if you invest even more time to finetune the Voltages it will get even better.

      @@fluphybunny930 I might do just that. In a month or two when intel 13 and the cheaper AM5 boards launch I am going to look at everything available, new and old, to see what I will want.
      Who knows, even though I am not planning to get one maybe AMD will release a decent GPU to tempt me too. GPUs have been not great or terrible for years now so I don't expect anything worth while to come out.

    Hello Paul,
    is it possible to test just the IGPU capability of those new ryzen 7700x and 7950x. This in regards also to the memory you are using.
    Would be nice to see how the memory speed and timings scale regards to IGPU and overall pc performance. Also as the chip runs in stock mostly hot, it would be nice to see the so called "eco mode" in action in those tests (105W and 65W) either by BIOS settings directly or the ryzen master configuration . Where is the sweetspot for power efficiency and performance.
    Regards,
    A

    Micro Center is running a promo which is a free kit of 2x8 (16GB) DDR5 with the purchase of any Zen 4 CPU and motherboard.
    If you live near one it saves about $180-210 (depending on the kit you choose) and an additional $20 off for the combo.
    That puts it right in line with the 12600K + mobo + RAM pricing, assuming you don't have suitable RAM for either platform (i.e. 3200+ DDR4 or 5600+ DDR5).

    The pbo under volt is a great idea. I'm testing a 5900x in a Asus GA15 pre built PC with the air cooler that it shipped with. My temps keep hitting 90c and it is very loud. This PC a threw together for a friend and we can't upgrade the case or CPU cooler. I'll rest out the pbo under volt later this morning. Hope it can keep the temps and the noise down.

    There are always exceptions to absolute statements, including the one i just said, but yes, for most people, you'll get much better performance from a good cooler, but if you need *the speciffic CPU you're looking at* you can make it work, though generally adding more cores, can offset the performance loss by underclocking in many use cases outside of gaming.

    G'day Paul & Joe,
    After the release videos this is the content I have been excited to see, so CPU Cooler choice not having the dire results of "Destroying Gaming Performance!" that some people were claiming in comments with even the AMD Coolers still providing adequate performance in SotTR.
    Production Performance was a different story but when have people building for that purpose been skimping for $ & c on a Cooler for that purpose when you would not be aiming for an R5 but an R9 which really needed an aftermarket cooler for 3000 & didn't come with a cooler for 5000 anyway.
    I use my R9 3900X for Video Editing & Transcoding as a hobby, I was having thoughts of upgrading to 5900X due to price drops for 7000 relese but after seeing the results I'll be putting off my upgrade & just saving for 7900X & B660 & DDR5 next year, then my 3900X will just migrate to be my Gaming PC & my R5 1400 can go to my Testbench.

    2:00 if you're doing a 12600, why spring for a z690 rather than a b660? That's a significant price jump for a motherboard, when you could do even a 12700 with a lower motherboard at that price point, or just have a lower overall cost.

    It would have been nice to see the curve optimiser combined with the wraith spire to gauge where the entry level cooler requirements are for the 7600X and 7700X.
    While red is the danger colour, for these 7000 series chips we shouldn't be concerned with them hitting 95°C and HWinfo should be updated to reflect this given 95°C is the stated 24/7 ok temp from AMD, it should only be hitting red after 95°C not at 90°C.
    Given that the be quiet Pure Rock 2 is a middling (lower RPM quiet fan) 120mm single fan 4 pipe tower cooler and did quite well, then it can be concluded than any 120mm 4 pipe tower cooler would be sufficient for anyone looking at cheaper cooling options.

      @Psi-Storm Рік тому

      The difference isn't that massive, if you don't mind dropping 100 MHz in synthetic loads, a cheap cooler wouldn't hurt with the 6 core. The 7950X on the other hand needs 150-175W for optimal performance, there you need a big air cooler or an aio.
