Hey Everyone! Thanks for watching, and FYI I have now posted a video with complete benchmarks for Ryzen 7000 and Intel 13th Gen -- watch here:
ua-cam.com/video/0ah-kH9iGM0/v-deo.html
lul AMD doing the same shit, "110*C is 'fine'" "95*C is 'fine'" and overvolt the everloving bejeesus out of their silicon while anyone sitting here on a like 5700XT is indeed using a space heater but it's not even that bad and you still get good performance it's just funny because all AMD's hardware I owned (not a lot so far tbh) it seems like you just throttle the voltage and you look up and see your frame counter just got 5-10fps more. Why? It's just because I think to get more uniform experience on silicon lottery losers they just dump power into it at stock and as a result of that thermal wall anyone throttling down the juice lets it hit better sustained performance on RDNA and Ryzen simply because lower voltage=lower temps=performance more better
Honestly I'm more impressed by 5800X3D than the 7000 series in these benchmarks.
Now what is going to be really interesting the the 7000 series X3D parts that will be coming out soon.
@@screwb1882 is there a set time for the release?
@@malcolmo312 It really speculation only right now given no 7800x and the chance it will kick ass in gaming. I'm guessing around Q1 2023, although it could be much later depending on the market, supply issues, etc.
@@fdfd4739 It's not really speculation. The x3d parts do exist. AMD is holding them back as a counter to Intel's next gen.
The compute performance is terrible though.
This just makes me excited for the 70003D variants
Yep, when comparing the 5950x to the 5800x3d in gaming performance we can expect a substantial boost in performance with the 7900x3d and 7950x3d.
@@Username4453 Seems like 5800x3d was a one off. Didn't release for 5900 or 5950
@@GadiantonsRobber they have already announced 3D variants for zen 4
@@keech100 well hot dang it's probably worth the wait then!
@@GadiantonsRobber u should have checked ur info before posting that comment.
Congrats Paul! You're the first Ryzen 7000 series video I've got notifications for!

Didn't it come out tomorrow?
Me too. Paul is excellent
@@jonboy2950 He is so much better than Jayz2CounterfeitCents and LinusTechAgenda
Great review Paul! Very in depth. Really appreciate all of the work you put in on these reviews.
the takeaway seems to be get a 5800X3D if you're upgrading for gaming. you'll save on the motherboard and RAM if you're already on AM4.
What I plan to do in the future. I'm still running a 3600 myself
What games do you play? I would like to upgrade from 4790k to 5800X3D. But I also play older games like Elder Scrolls Series and Fallout Series which was optimized for the older INTEL CPU's. Now that there is the 5800X3D however, how does 5800X3D play those games?
@@jodiepalmer2404 fallout 4 i saw a massive boost overall and especially in the 0,1% lows upgrading from a 3600 to a 5800x3d. And the 3600 is already quicker in those games than the i7 4790k
@@jodiepalmer2404 Any modern chip will run older games faster than the older chips. Of course, the GPU will play a bigger role than cpu unless you are running those old games at an ugly low resolution.
Kinda depends on which direction you want to go - if you already have a decent AM4 board, it's pretty obvious answer. If you're building new and going for max FPS per dollar, AM4+5600 for money savings or 5800X3D for dem frames. But, if you're at all interested in an upgrade path, it'll most certainly be cheaper in the long run to invest in AM5 now(which really means, "invest in AM5 when B650 comes out"...) than to build an AM4 system now and upgrade to a new platform in a few generations.
What makes the most sense right now [IMO] is just holding off to see what Intel 13th gen & Ryzen 7xx0X3D chips look like if your primary use is gaming. This isn't the perpetual "wait till next gen" argument, but rather this is an interesting time in CPU development where new technologies & architectures are making these questions much more complicated to answer than they were in years past, we really need to see how a lot of this plays out.
BTW, keep in mind too that the 5800X3D isn't just universally that good in EVERY game, there's most definitely games where it sees no uplift over the 5800X - so you absolutely need to consider the specific games, the style of games, and possibly even info like the game engines you tend to play the most when we're really getting into which option makes the most sense. I mean, it would be a hell of a bummer to get a 5800X3D and realize that you aren't actually seeing better performance than a cheaper 5800(let alone 7000 series matching performance) just because the games you play don't perform any better with the cache increase lol.
Hey Paul. You'll be happy to know that my subscription feed has around 6 reviews to choose from on launch days, and I almost always choose yours first. I like your presentation and delivery. I also think that you highlight the most important data for the average user.
I'm still rocking a 3800X but that 5800X3D is looking more appealing all the time. If I get one, it will be the third CPU I will have used in this x570 mobo, and I just think that is so f'n cool for AMD to have offered that capability.
I'm probably going that route myself.
Me too. I like Paul's hardware and kitguru the most.
just went from a 3800x to a 5800x3d and im blown away
@@Third_eyee Mind if I ask for some specs of your system? What GPU, resolution, and how many monitors?
@@tonypelletier9335 just one monitor, Alienware aw2721d 2560x1440p, 240hz, Msi 2080ti gaming x trio, gskill tridentz 3200mhz ddr4 32gb memory, hope this helps, I went from 80-90fps in wow to 220-230 lol, rocket league I gained about 30 fps
I use a msi x470 gaming pro carbon
Here in Germany we are having issues with natural gas for home heating, this might be a good option for winter gaming/room heating :) definitely getting one for my new build
Except that, there in Germany you will also have issues with electricity for running the 7950X, so that's that, not to mention the EU prices for these chips ...
Europe is fucked!
@@mirceastan4618 They'll be ok, they have free healthcare
@@tomayto70 "free" after giving up close to 50% of income due to taxes, that's not "free" in my dictionary 😂
@@crateer it's definitely not free, but it's better than having hundreds of thousands of unexpected debt if anything severe happens to your health.
@@crateer It varies per country in Europe. Personally I pay 20% in income tax. You might want to look up actual statistics before embarassing yourself further.
I'm planning to go with the 7900x in my next build. This was definitely an eye-opener and AMD doesn't seem to be letting up and keeping the pressure on intel... Now if we can have a similar scenario with RDNA 3 vs nvidia...
wait for 7900x3d or burn wallet like you want... hmmmmmmmmm i think id rather wait. anything that has stacked memory like HBM is true next gen i wont buy hardware without it.
Great work Paul! Always the 1st reviewer I watch on new hardware launches!
Bless you Paul. When I finally get a chance to build a new system, I know what to go for. Thanks to you.
It’ll be awhile before I go AM5 but this is very promising. This is crazy performance!
Very hype for the 7600 review. My R5 3600 had been a beast for the price and I actually followed one of your builds almost to a T right at the beginning of 2020. Crazy it’s almost been 3 years and now I’m super into PCs!
I'm using the same CPU at the moment.
I'm also using the 3600 pairing it with a 3070, the Best bang-for-buck CPU I have ever used, Hyped for the 7600x
Still rocking a 1600 😜
Looking forward to upgrading!
@@justsaiyan3346 I have mine paired with an EVGA 3060 and it has handled everything I’ve thrown at it! I’m always looking at upgrades though. Currently waiting on more 40 series announcements before doing much else

Solid video Paul, thank you for the hard work! I'm still rocking a 1600X and am planning to upgrade to a 5800x3D
I had a 1700x in a AX370. I bought a 5800x3D for $225, updated the BIOS, and dropped it in and booted it up. Now I have the (second? 0.1% and 1% are better) best gaming CPU on the market for hardly any money. AM4 is legendary.

YES!!! I watched Paul first. I really want to thank you Paul for the great video. It feels odd not seeing your dining room table during these testing phases, but I am sure it gives you much more space back at home. Looking forward to the rest of these CPU benchmarks.
Great Review. Thanks Paul!
Thanks for the benchmarks Paul!
Fantastic benchmark summary! Really concise to the point and it actually provided new insight to me over other more story telling style UA-camrs! Thanks!
Always the first reviewer to check out! Thanks Paul!
Ahhhhh, The Masters got this review in the bag! Great to see AMD not resting on their laurels and moving forward with AM5! Despite the ridiculous pricing on the other parts needed to get these bad boys up and running, this is a very solid step forward. Great job as always Paul!
Paul is always the first I go to for review of new hardware... I just get what I want to know about presented so well - other reviews are just cherries on top of Paul's Sunday
THANK YOU for including Civ VI!
Gotta say I've been looking forward to seeing these benchmarks and I'm also excited to see how the RX 7000 series graphics cards perform. Will you be doing benchmarks on those nearer to launch?
Thank you for a good comprehensive video. Im waiting for the V-cache versions. I have been waiting since Nov 2020. May as well wait a few more months and take in some CPU and GPU reviews before buying. I am sure there will be plenty of reviews on Mobos, Power Supplies, and Ram as well
Appreciate the work Paul it's pretty clear, thank you.
Excellent! :) Tempted to jump right in, but should probably wait for the vcache version.
@Paul's Hardware
thank you for this awesome review

Intel Test Bed DDR4-6000 ... surprised me at first ... certainly it is DDR5-6000
maybe you have noticed this already
have a great day
Glad you showed the Civ 6 test because my PC gaming is almost exclusively strategy games, thanks!
All the vids are dropping! Yours was first for me so far
I'm ready to build a new content creation workstation, and I appreciate that you tested the performance for the Adobe suite and not just gaming. I'm an average user with just enough tech knowledge to build a PC on my own. This was just what I needed.
Thanks Paul, now I definitely want to get an AMD 5800X3D :)
Thanks Paul for your many hours you put into this review of the new am5 hardware. Looks to be a homerun for AMD!
it's a paid promo man
Thank you for the review!
Great video! Looking forward to the 7600X as well, This one's very capably but anything above $400 is not attainable for me.
Great video as much as I would like to build an AM5 system, I will stay with the AM4 set up (Ryzen 9 5800, 128Gb DRAMM, 3060 card (the card is less than 3 months old and the higher cards are still over $900 AUD). Keep up the great work Matey
Thanks for measuring and comparing power draw in gaming.
Thank you, always the first review video I watch of new launches. I didn't notice the chip as my eyes aren't that good to catch such small writing.
Excellent review Paul! I will wait for the 2nd or 3rd quarter and see what is interesting then! MY current rig had a 5800X 3D with a EVGA 3080 so not in a rush but the 7950x would be nice!
Impressive! Waiting for the RX 7000 reviews!and I want that info on the last CPU!
Awesome review. I really wish there were 4K benchmarks since my VR headset is close to that resolution and I have not owned a 1080p monitor in many years.
first up I seen Paul great job I was thinking of getting straight in on the new platform although some of the gaming stuff has me thinking now look forward to more of this stuff though its really exciting stuff thanks for your insane efforts
Thanks ! you're awesome paul!
Great review and analysis. :)
I just leaving the comment to boost your metrics, good stuff as always Paul.
Great vid, Paul. Didn't even skip to the conclusions!
would a 95C target temp mean that a custom rigid loop (PETG) is out of the picture? Or at least questionably safe?
Thanks for the breakdown and the hard work it took to create it. =)
Nice performance uplift but much higher power draw as well. Will wait to see what team blue and 3D V-Cache variants will bring to the table.
Great vid.
I got a 5600x upgrade in the spring, so im good for now, but its great to see the innovation marching on
Thanks for the greeting on the benchmarks summary, it's as if you knew many in your audience care little for minutae (unlike some of your colleagues) and just want the meat and potatoes of the matter. 😆
As for my plans, I'll continue on with my 5900X for the foreseeable future. I think it'll be plenty for all of my needs at least for the next couple of years.
Paul, fantastic content as always....really do like your style and delivery. As for AMD, this harks back to them nailing it back at the turn of the century. Once prices have settled I'm looking forward to my upgrade - something to also hark back to the 386/486/P1 and P2 days for being excited by a cpu.
Thanks for the video, but your CPU temps were likely skewed because AIO's typically contain some air in them and you have the radiator mounted upside down allowing suction of air into your pump causing cavitation and inefficient cooling, and possible throttling.
Very cool to see the 5800x3d holding up still against this generation. Going to be really cool to see the next generation of 3d vcache chips from amd
but the thing is the 5800X3D only supports the older gen of am and PCIe 4.0
I am waiting for the 3D V-cache version. I hope they will kick ass like the 5800x3d
I'm looking forward to building a 7850x workstation for VMs and continuous software builds.
Thanks for not doing only gaming benchmarks.
G'day Paul & Joe,
after seeing the performance this morning I am very excited about upgrading my Video Editing PC to a R9 5900X when B660 is available
Great to see cpu tech moving forward!
Solid. But can't wait for 3D-cache versions, those will be awesome.
Would be interested to know performance when lowering the TDP and paired with a reasonable air cooler and not an AIO.
Wow, what happened Paul? You're the first on my feed, well technically the second but Igor sprichst nur Deutsch, good job on the timing and review.
Thanks Paul!
thank you for your hard work
1080P testing will die soon !! Thanks Paul. always like your vids.
No it won’t, because anything above 1080p your GPU limited and all the cpu give you pretty much the same result within 1-5%.
Thanks Paul. A damn fine video that you obviously put a lot of work into. Very informative. Looks like a good start for the 7000 series CPUs.
My setup is mixed use - productivity and gaming. So unless someone hands me a load of money, I'll be happy to stick with my 5950X, 3080Ti, 1440 ultra monitor combo for a good while to come.
Thanks again. 👍
Great review - though I'd love to see max sustained power consumption of each platform.
Thanks Paul! 👍
Good job explaining the temps, some reviewers have been showing confusing misleading comparisons likely to cause the less experienced to jump to wrong conclusions.
A drawback of high temps is triggering high fan speed, so running at 170w/230w TDP/PPT needs a good cooler/fan combo to reduce noise.
The reduced TDP performance is actually MORE impressive, a sign of real progress while the max performance is extremely wasteful for small gains, like the disgraceful default overclocking on the K series Intel with most Z mobos.
Good job Paul!
I'm still running my old AMD AM3+ 8350 build since 2013. I made this build to last 10 years. In 2014 I added a 1tb Samsung ssd. The next build is gonna be crazy. Thinking I will wait for the 7000 series x3d chips and it will then be upgrade time. With a gen 5 m.2 drive and a Radeon 7000 series. Funny cause I am on the HD7950 right now.
Great video Paul! I pretty much only game on my PC, and it's time for an upgrade. Should i go for 5800x3d or wait for the 7000 version? Budget is a major factor and my target is 1440p gaming with 150-200 fps.
if you are gonna get a 4080+ gpu wait for 7000 X3D otherwise just cop the 5800x3d.
Will the iCUE H150i ELITE LCD Display Liquid work with no special adapter?
Good benchmakrs Paul, and you're one of the rare YT Tech Channel that shows the 5950X CR23 real score of ~28k. LTT and HU shows it at 24k which it not even what they benched themselves 2 years ago when it came out.
Oh, and thanks for the video; I know that generating the content & creating the video took several days.
Thank you for all your efforts, Paul! I enjoyed this video...🇺🇸 😎👍☕
Just doing a quick review of comments most are waiting for gaming results and will wait for X3D version, which will most likely be next spring. By then components will need to justify the expense to bump up with DDR5 systems or there will need to be a massive leap forward in FPS. Bummed to see no real bump for expense in these basic cards for gaming, I have a feeling the price won't be budging on the 5800X3D's if you can find one after the reviews from today.
Those are the exact cpu's I wanted to see go head-to-head great job!
Ooooh I can't wait to see the X3D variants of these chips O:
This actually just sold me one the 5800x3d, Thanks man.
Should I go for the 7950X or wait until X3D comes out? I already have an i12900K and mostly just game. Need something that will improve MSFS performance as it is heavy on single threads
I was already kinda planning this anyway since I recently got a new X570 board(because B550s with decent feature sets aren't exactly much cheaper...) ,but I think I'm likely going to upgrade my 3600X to a 5800X3D, and ride that out as the daily driver for a while. It'll cap off an awesome AM4 journey starting with an R3 1200, then an R5 1600, then the current R 3600X, a 5800X3D will really round out the journey nicely!
Then I'll probably get into AM5 either sometime after the 7xx0X3D launch(first price drop maybe? Guess we'll have to see what everything looks like at that time), or after the launch of the next generation of AM5 CPUs(...9000 series? I'm having less and less faith in so called 'naming conventions' at this point...), probably a mid-range CPU with an otherwise budget setup. Something to play around with the new platform, like I did when Ryan first launched. Assuming I can maintain some kind of self control - I irrationally want the hell out of a 5.8Ghz CPU no matter how absolutely absurdly overkill it is for my needs... (I mean, I want a Threadripper Pro too, but at least those aren't within reach of my budget)
Man these latest CPUs are damned exciting - not just the 7000 series, but even the 5800X3D(and the other upcoming 5xx0X3D SKUs) still too! These 7000s are like freak athletes that can just do it all though, amazing amazing stuff!
MSFS2020 Benchmarks are very much wanted without DLSS. Thanks for this great video Paul.
The 5800x3d performing in games , the way it does . And the 7000 series , needing a motherboard upgrade .
Makes the 5800x3d the best gaming cpu , for anyone with an amd motherboard
Dang, already decided to hold onto my 12900K from February, but I'll definitely consider switching platforms in a few years here; would go well with my switch from NVIDIA to AMD for GPUS this gen.
I was already holding off for the 7000 3D v-cache as I'm going for a full new build, I hope they price RDNA 3 reasonably compared to nVidia and hopefully see some platform maturity by the time I pull the trigger and buy a 3D V version.
Isn't the 7950X slower with 4 stick of RAM? Could you maybe do a video regarding that whole thing?
Thank you for including Civilization VI in the CPU benchmarks. Reviewers need to add more games that are actually CPU bound in important ways other than just FPS.
It is hard to keep waiting. But I think it is smart to wait until early Jan '23 for CES. See what the V-Cache models bring for price and performance.
This will be my first build, I would like to go AM5, but it is so pricey. If the V-Cache is worth it cool, if not 5800x3d for sure
Paul have a question- I have a video edit rig with 128 gigs of ddr4 ram- want another rig for editor- ddr 5 doesn't have option to get 128 gb gigs of ram within reasonable budget (32 gig sticks); stick with ddr4 and previous gen or is the move to drr5 warranted?
Id just wait for the 3d variant ones myself thats what I'm waiting for since I mainly game.
Still feeling very good about my 5800X3D purchase while it was on sale, can't wait to see the 7800X3D
I think the biggest limit for gaming at 1440p will still be the GPU, at least for the next couple of years. I have 3600 currently and I am planning on purchasing the 5800x3d during the black Friday sales, I think that will set me up for the next 3-4 years at least with no need to upgrade...
I'm watching all these tests & I am truly amazed by performance, but my humble i7 8700K, that I got back in 2018, still gets the job done & delivers all the fps I need in my games, paired with an RTX 3080 10GB. So, no upgrades for me just yet, don't need them. Maybe in a couple of years, perhaps. We'll see. Thanks for the awesome coverage, Paul! Always nice to see & hear you!
Great video as always Paul, just enough detail. Seems like AMD have done a great job.
Thank you Paul.
Nice quick summary, thanks Paul, I came here first!
What open air bench case do you use at 2:37?
Even if I am not going to buy into the new hardware just yet, it is super exciting to live vicariously through TechTube content.
As I'm still on an i7-6700K, likely going to upgrade this black friday
Patience is a virtue. Im going to wait for the 3d v-cache versions.
Holy F I didn't expect these results
4 way comparison very useful and very detailed, very well done. Personally looking forward to seeing the lower skues performance. Keep up the great work. Ps: awesome to see AMD bring such performance improvement and put Intel behind again, but we can only wait for 13th gen for a "fair" fight and then crown victors
Thanks Paul🙂
Thank you for all the hard work and I loved the part with the overall system cost. The only thing I struggle with is the gaming benchmarks in 1080p. I understand it is designed to show differences, but who is playing 1080p games with a 3080ti and a $500-$700 cpu.
It's done on purpose to see CPU performance, since at 1080p and 3080ti, your system will not be bottlenecked by your GPU, you can really compare CPU performance.
@@denisrudchenko4115 I get understand that, but it's unrealistic. We could introduce bottlenecks by benchmarking the games at 480p or 720p but at what point does it makes sense to say every cpu above X provides the nearly same performance. I draw the line when there isn't a monitor made that could show the difference.
