You've come a long ways since this review, David. I just happened to be looking into which version of DQ V to play and stumbled across this ANCIENT gem. 💎
Have you played the DS version of this fine title? If so, I'd *LOVE* to see you do a comparison video breaking down the differences between the two, and ultimately picking which you'd prefer going with. Because this one gets debated around the internet *a lot.* And frankly... *you're the man to settle the score on this one.*
Though it's by no means an in-depth analysis, he did say in his let's play of this game that he prefers the PS2 version.
@@TheUltraBulbasaur He said the PS2 version is the definitive version in this video, but I do wish he'd elaborate on why. Just for kicks I did search for Dragon Quest in the Nintendo eShop on 3DS. They're wanting $40 each fro 7 and 8, but those are the only ones that I even got... so I don't know if it's possible to play the DS version anyway without a physical copy, which is currently $63 on Amazon.
I played the DeJap SNES translation probably over a decade ago now, and IMO V is by far the best classic Dragon Quest game. I enjoyed the Job Classes in VII though, and haven't played any of the later ones.
This is version should come out on switch.

Still undecided if I want to check this game out but man I loved this video.
DQ 5 is one of the best of the series. The story and structure are awesome. Give it a shot if you like JRPGs, it's a classic of the genre.
Fantastic game, recently started playing through them all. im halfway through DQV with the odd diversion to DQVIII when I feel the urge... really enjoyed 1 - 4, 5 is truley great from a story standpoint. looking forward to finishing this and cracking on with DQ6.

The SNES version is also my favorite because the recruitable monsters are *really* good, and they all got removed from the DS version and replaced with mediocre slimes :')
Sam Eash I LOVE 6. I never played the snes version past the first 2-3 towns. When I was younger, I played the game til I reached the point where the patch ended and started reading text in gibberish. I was 11 or 12 at the time, and I found out that a site called illuminus was going to take over at the time and I was so excited about it, I checked it every month or so all the way through high school! I wanted to play it so bad because I thought the dream world seemed so cool. I kept going to the site and every year or so they would post an update saying they were getting close to finishing it- eventually I went to the site one day and found that it wasn’t there. I was so sad. Then when I was like 20 I realized there was a ds version, I was so excited I bought it immediately, and loved it! So many people don’t like it but it’s one of my favourite dragon quests. I still haven’t played 5, I don’t have a good pc but if I did I would play this ps2 version for SURE!
@@CenturianEagle You don't need a "good" PC to emulate PS2 man. I was emulating PS2 with a prebuilt from 2009 with an i3 in it. There are some games that are still hard to emulate so you'd need a decent CPU for those, but I don't think this is one of them.

this is one of the best rpg that i ever played and this was waaaaaay back in college. the game is almost as old as my wife!
David, what happened to the bonus episodes for the post-story you said you were going to do? I looked at all the videos for your channel from the posting of the finale to the posting of this video and I didn't see them. What happened?

Tales of Legendia's music is god tier.
yeah, I agree. The game's scores are both the pinnacle of their respective series.
As someone who drives around with Go Shiina's music regularly, Dragon Quest's music is equally masterful
