  • Sleep can be complicated.
    There are many factors that affect your sleep quality and quantity.
    Some improve your sleep, while others make it worse.
    Just a few simple habits can make the difference between a good night’s sleep and a night spent tossing and turning.
    That's why in this video I'll explain which habits you want to avoid, as they are ruining your sleep.
    Some habits are worse than others, but if you can avoid all of them, then a good night's sleep is almost unavoidable.
    Now if you want to know which habits will improve your sleep, then check out my other video about this topic. It's important that you know and understand both.

    I use a philips. Along with that I use a normal alarm clock that is set to the latest time I need to wake up and still get done with my morning routine in time.
    In most cases I wake up from the daylight alarm. There were even time periods I didn't use the sound alarm clock and I never had trouble with oversleeping. In many Cases the daylight alarm woke me pretty early, approximately 40 minutes before my actual wake time. Since I use the daylight alarm I have trouble falling asleep very seldomly.

      Yes, this. People domt realise how important it is to eliminate all sources of light and be in complete dark. Not just that, they should be gradually dimming the lights of their houses starting from sundown. No bright lights especially. If we overlook the artificial lights that humans have now been using for so long then nature gives us complete darkness much earlier than we switch off lights in our houses. Today's humans just dont understand the importance of darkness.

    About the 2nd Point:
    its not the blue color that messes with your melatonin its the brightness. Yes blue light is slightly worse than red light but at the brightness of screens it doesnt make a difference. But then again, if you have to use a screen using a blue light filter cant hurt.
    And about the 10th point:
    Valereian can be used to fall asleep faster. It only affects your melatonin so your sleep quality is not negativly impacted.

    One advice is not to drink liquids before bed. I'm not sure if that only relates to the possibility of waking up to go to the loo, or to an effect it has on your sleep regardless of whether you wake up to pee or not.
    For example, I'm starting to drink camomille before going to bed but normally this isn't enough to wake me up to pee. Beyond the effects of camomille on sleep etc, does it mean this habit may reduce sleeping quality due to late liquids even if I don't wake up?

    And this is serious advice, is to stop breathing from your mouth and only from nose, it makes you feel dry so you drink more water, and it's 1 of best ways to damage your health which is very bad, not sure but i think it feels harder to sleep when breathing from mouth
    But your nose most likely is blocked, because often, how much your nose allows you to breath is how much you should breath, that's why when you exercise your nose opens up, because your body needs more oxygen, but when laying on bed or something like that, your nose gets blocked because your body needs less oxygen so the heart rate gets lower, but you can make it even lower by doing the following:
    breath in slowly until your lungs gets 70% full or more, wait for a second or more, breath out slowly, wait for a second or more, then repeat (you can wait for how much you want, this is just in general)
    And this is a better way to wind down, not looking at computer screens 2 hours before bed does a very simple difference, just don't use something that triggers you (which makes you stay longer), and decrease the brightness if possible (doesn't have to be 100%)
    And I literally took my time just to tell you how important this advice is, please start breath from your nose and not mouth, not gonna lie but personally for me, breathing from my mouth made me feel empty so I felt bored (at least for me)

    Pretty good info n never heard of Denison.
    Alcohol does help sleep but this is true, it does disrupt your sleep also, u tend to wake up throughout the night more than usual.
    Basically, if you are a smoker, it's all over for you.
    True sleeping pills don't mean you're asleep it just means you are sedated lol. Good way of putting it..
    Any thinking before bed is not good for you, it leads to doing head miles. The objective is to shut down your brain. Yes to meditate..
    Overall, this vid is thorough and true. Thank you BTY ;)

    Sleeping while your cats are in the room, knocking things off your shelf, fighting, breaking glasses, scratching your chest, hissing at each other, climbing windows, opening bags of bone meal that could be life threatening if they ingest it, and meowing at you so they can use the bathroom.

    This is wonderful info, but could you add some work-arounds for people like me who have one-room apartments and have to use their beds for everything all day? This is especially so during this pandemic. Also, do you have tips for improving productivity while working from home, even in a small space where you can't separate "work" and "home" areas?

    • @nomo6820
      @nomo6820 2 роки тому

      Find a way to convert your space during the day. Some cultures have traditionally used a roll-up sleeping mat, but you could also lean your mattress against the wall, or adapt what you have in another simple way. The key with your bed is to not lay in it when doing anything other than sleeping, because you only want your brain to associate your bed with sleep.

  • @joanl.7543
    @joanl.7543 4 роки тому +1

    If you read before bed to sleep, I would recommend a book that is difficult. It also should not have any material to upset you; I'd avoid politics, some history books, disturbing stories or any hot button topics. Something like physics, certain passages of literature, advanced philosophy or a similar thing. That may be why some sleep at school or during a sermon- the brain is getting worked hard, and then it tries to rest.
    But to be clear, you wouldn't want to rely on this to get actual school work done; I'm just saying it would be good as a sleep technique.

  • @tris5602

    While everyone can improve their sleep hygiene, it's not a cure-all for those with neurological disorders. I have struggled with insomnia since childhood, well before cellphones were a bedtime companion. Before being prescribed medication a year ago, I woke up exhausted every day of my life because I couldn't stay asleep through the night or go back to sleep after my frequent waking. What I take isn't technically a sleeping pill, but it's been life changing.
