Been using kn filters for 20 years this year.. Always been my first purchase when I get a new vehicle.. I've seen reviews stating they can be bad or not filter as good.. But I haven't seen anything in my oil samples that would suggest excess dirt is getting into the pistons and oil.. And my vehicles have gone 300k miles no issue.. I clean pretty often since I live in dusty west Texas usually twice a year.
Maintanence is key.. people think it’s plug in and forget 😂
approximately how many kms before cleaning?
@@acc1tester398 I usually clean mine once per year honestly
@acc1tester398 check the filter. Is it dirty? Clean it. Also when you see the filter has lost the oil(red look) time to clean and apply oil layer again.
Warning: do not put to much oil otherwise your maf sensor can be damage.
Really appreciate your comment, been worried about the oil since I have a turboed engine
I just got the Toyota Trd air filter.
I thought it was interesting because Toyota does no longer sell a cleaning kit. But right on the box as an official sticker, that actually says, use K&N cleaner, and oil. I suppose we know now that K&n makes these which is cool.
Very cool indeed 😎!
I have a spectra air filter cleaner and oil kit will it work with this filter
I have used K&N filters on my LPG powered Subaru and Mercedes 6 Cylinder engines for over 18 years, they totally kill the stuttering caused by LPG, at traffic lights and give a cleaner burn.
Just to calm my nerves, I have always used the foam pre-filters an all vehicles.
Just changing the ones on my Viano and S-Class , the Pre- Filters are worth their weight in Gold, after 60,000 miles the filter itself has very little dirt or wear on them.
Highly recommend their use.
PS, Thanks K&N for totally curing the LPG stutter. I will use nothing else.
Thanks for sharing your story
I'm using subaru forester with lpg, this very helpful for me, thanks for your sharing
Should I not do this in the kitchen sink? And, I’m not an issue for me at the moment, but is it safe if you have a septic system?
I cleaned the engine filter for the first time and a small piece of the rubber came off on the doesn't affect the seal.
nice and easy XD
Tuning a 2017 DPS6 Ford Fiesta, naturally aspirated 1.6L, with stock air box, and K&N 33-2955. 😉
How long after spraying would you recommend to wait before installing back in the vehicle? Also, would you recommend leaving it oil side up or down during that time?
You want to wait until the oil wicks into the material and creates a consistent color across the entire filter (it should be salmon red). The direction you set the filter to wick is not as important... however we recommend placing the oiled side up so that oil does not drip onto the ground and instead absorbs into the filter. What's the dry time recomended before puting the oil
Drying time can vary depending on a number of factors. If the filter is still cool or damp to the touch, or if you test a small amount of oil in the corner of the filter and it runs off (instead of absorbing) you should allow the filter to continue drying. How to buy original in oman
Brrrruuuuuuh I almost bought a new filter because a mechanic said so . I got my oil changed some car guru said hey man you need to get the kit! I said what kit shows me this . 21$ auto zone compared to $80-$100
I have a DNA filter on my bike (K&N doesnt make one). Is it alright that I use a K&N kit to clean and oil it?
Is it a cotton filter? It's probably alright.
So i need to soak the filter on the dirty side where all the debry gets? And how many times do i do it
Please contact our Product Specialists at 800-858-3333 or tech@knfilters.com for assistance
What the actual hell did you put that filter through
Looks like it got flooded in the swamp from Labyrinth 💀
Do I need to oil it if im putting it in my car for the first time?
If your filter is still brand new (still in the packaging) it does not need to be oiled for the first installation. Make sure to re-oil your filter when you're ready to clean it. If you have any other questions please feel free to contact our product specialists at 800-858-3333 or tech@knfilters.com.
Do i add oil on both sides?
I came here for this! I don’t know either
Make sure to only oil one side of the filter. We generally recommend applying filter oil to the dirty side of the filter. If you need additional assistance please feel free to contact our Product Specialists at 800-858-3333 or tech@knfilters.com.
Hmm.. my reasoning would be that you can get a more even coat if you went from both sides.
No. If you over oil the filter the oil can cover the MAF sensor and throw codes on your dash. Should not oil the inside at all, and only the intake side.
@norakat way i see it. You wana catch the garbage on the side it came from, hence oiling the outside.
Is this safe to clean and let into the environment? Are there chemicals in the cleaner that we should be worried about getting on our skin or running into the rain gutters?
K&N Air Filter Cleaner is non-toxic, designed to be environmentally friendly, and does not fall under the regulation of the EPA’s Clean Water Act of 1972. If you have any other questions or concerns please feel free to contact our product specialists at 800-858-3333 or tech@knfilters.com
How often we should repeat this process?
Under normal highway driving conditions, you can go up to 75,000 miles before servicing. If driving in a dusty/dirty environment, consider cleaning sooner. If you need help determining if your filter needs to be cleaned Please contact our product specialists at 800-858-3333 or tech@knfilters.com.
After cleaning the filter, when you say dry. Do you mean fully dry? And not a bit damp? But Sahara desert dry?
Yes, the filter media must be completely dry so that the filter oil absorbs into the media. If the filter still feels cool/damp, or you apply a small amount of oil to one of the corners and it runs off then you need to let the filter continue drying. What happenes if we don't oil
@@sergiogreezy8578same and does auto zone or o Riley’s carry these?
Why so pedantic. Dry is dry. Why would you try and add oil to something that is wet. It's not going to work is it.
Very dry. Try adding oil on a watery surface. It won't sit still. Make sure it's bone dry.
Do you need to oil both side?
Oil one side and make sure its the side that is being demonstrated in the vid.
The dirty side
Outside. (Where the outside air hits the filter before going into the intake).
What happen if i don't put filter oil
The filter oil is a critical part of the filtration process for K&N oiled cotton filters. Not applying filter oil during the cleaning process will result in reduced performance. If you have any other questions or concerns please contact our Product Specialists at 800-858-3333 or tech@knfilters.com
Use your brain. There is nothing then to trap dust and fine particles entering your engine.
The oil is like a glue that traps particles from entering.
How often should thirds filters be cleaned?
The cleaning interval varies depending on your driving conditions. For typical on-road driving you can drive up to 75,000 miles before servicing. If you need help deciding if it's time to clean your filter, please feel free to contact our Product Specialists at 800-858-3333 or tech@knfilters.com
@@KNfilters I am now cleaning my filter after about 40,000 miles of driving throughout southern California and Vegas every now and then.
I do mine every 20,000 miles 🤦
Do it every year as a minimum. Dont let it get too dirty
When the red color turns gray it’s time to clean and re oil.
Mine needs recharging more often than most, it is an open breather on a Harley Davidson so it is in the environment more than in an air box on a car or truck. Don’t let it get too dirty before cleaning and oiling.
do you oil only the dirty side?
Oil only inside so yea the dirty side
@@RxPoundzidiot. The outside is the dirty side. Stop giving out wrong advice on the internet.
Yes
I have seen a billion times to only oil the dirty side. Why doesn’t KN specify this in the instructions or in a video? It would avoid all these questions
I didn’t even know this and I’ve oiled both sides
They did specify it by saying oil the dirty side. Same as they said wash from the clean side and suddenly everyone understood that you dont have to wash from dirty side. People just have low IQ
it literally says on the printed instructions to do either side.
@@Thecyclingeconomicsdoc it doesn’t on my instructions which are from over a decade ago.
Mine shows a picture showing the dirty side only, so I suspected it's only one side that gets the treatment.
Seems like too much work for a 1 minute air filter change. 😅
When I oil my filter it doesn’t get that nice color, I’m disappointed 😂
Is your oil red? I just used specter sold by auto zone and it was clear. I wanted red too lol. But the specter cleaning kit worked just as well. My filter was dirty, I was hitting mud puddle with my chevy cruze lol
Lmao I used soap and water with a tooth brush and fcked my shi up 😂
Please contact our Product Specialists at 800-858-3333 or tech@knfilters.com for assistance
How? I heard dawn was ok for it.
You don't say which side to spray the oil? In or out or both?
The written instructions in the kit don't say either... ???
Apply the oil on the outside (where the outside air will be hitting the filter and can thus grab contaminants before they get into the intake.)
Nah Im rich im going to buy a new one 😂
It's ritual. In early spring, and fall time. It's a satisfying thing to clean, instead of waste.....
Can I have your old one?? I'm a poor....lmao
Okay I got mine and it smells so gross and it was brand new.
Tooo much work rather spend 20 on a new one 😂😂😂
K&N Performance filters ain’t $20 my friend 😂
@@KryptonLP5 Unless you buy the small ones for crank ventilation :D
'too much work'? Spraying something and leaving it alone?
@@eveythingthatsadamhell, too much work for me (and pointless spending) is buying a new filter whe I can just clean my old one.
