Please stand for the National anthem of The United Kingdom.
:) Great comment!
Hilarious. Id burn them but they'll probably burn themselves the friggin divvys. Mongs of the bird world but I've got to feed the little gets now. Pain in the arse..
Lmao
Couldn't be more apt
Of western Europe*
Spent my whole life thinking it was an owl that woke me up 😂
Bro sameeeee
Ahh damn it, a bit disapointed that I'm hearing pigeons right now. Always thought it was owls I was listening to hehehehe
😫😭😂
@@flowetrypoetryblackroseart1533 WHAT! HOW DO SO MANY PEOPLE THINK THEY WERE OWLS!
@@apexorange7590 JSSBHSHSJSJ! HOW!
@@plagueinater I have no idea, I just assumed they were. My bad 😂
I remember when I was a kid and the class window was open in spring it was so quiet all you could hear was this hearing this sound brings me back. So much nostalgia and so relaxing.
Hi
This comment brought me back to elementary school, just for a moment. Man nostalgia is a hell of a thing.
Same!
I'm sure it's a mating call too. Atleast it's attracting someone
Okay unc
My childhood. Waking up on lazy summer mornings, hearing this from the garden across. Serenity.
My morning bangers
Lmao
kuu kuuu ku ku
I have them for dinner, quite tasty yum yum
Reminds me of playing video games all night and going to sleep when I heard these birds at 5am and getting a whole two hours of sleep.
It's a privilege to hear this beautiful bird song...it always amazes me that the pitch and rhythmic pattern is almost the same every time. The song ' if you knew Suzy' always comes to mind when I hear them...
I know right, I love hearing the same 5 notes every 4 seconds for 8 seconds at a time 73 times a day!
i fucking hate this sound.
any bird that sounds like a 5 second clip on repeat just gets to my nerves.
All I can hear is them angrily saying “you CAN’T go swimming”
That's a great description :)
Brilliant! I can't unhear it now! 😁
That's all i'm going to hear from now on... Thank you
🤣👍🏻
Haha that's hilarious
Sunny mornings wouldn't be the same without them. Personally speaking I think they are beautiful birds.
Hear them frequently and many times when camping. We always thought it sounds like, "your food is ready" or "the force is with you" 😂
Those are great! 'My toe hurts betty' is another one I often see - apparently it took off after being mentioned on Radcliffe and Maconie's radio show.
Omg I can hear it!!! Hahha
I can hear that lol
The one i grew up with was slightly inappropriate 😅
Kate Bush uses them a lot in the latter half of her album “Aerial”. In the song “Aerial Tal” she actually imitates a woodpigeon.
I love the sound they make.. Always have...
Not the most tuneful of birds but I agree with you, its always great to hear them calling.
Same idk why
@@MrHimyhimy My dad thinks if he mimicks it they'll shut up lol. Grumpy old git
Same so cute 😍
Me too my friend... Me too :,)
I just love their call. It is so distinctive. xxxxxx

This is what you hear 24/7 in the UK.
I remember always hearing these pigeon sounds early in the morning when I was younger.
There he is, the 2016 bird.
A soft and soothing call. I adore these lil pidges and thank them for their nostalgic song and comfort.
Thank you so much for allowing the bird to take centre stage, and not spoiling it by standing in front of the camera with your own commentary. Very enjoyable! Such an evocative sound, full of childhood memories.
Appreciate your your comment, thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching.
I hear them so often in germany...:) they give me summer vibes
When this banger plays at 5:30am
I love the emphasis on the second word in their call.
it isn't actually the second word in their call, it's the first word, there is just a 3 beat gap between the 4th and 5th word and then they immediately repeat it, so it makes you think the last word is the first word
so e.g. if you are hearing "my CALL sounds.. like this... my CALL sounds.. like this.... my CALL sounds.. like this..."
the real call is "CALL sounds like this... my / CALL sounds like this... my / CALL sounds like this... my!"
they always end with the extra syllable. the video also made the same mistake but next time you hear them listen, they always drop that note at the end because that's the true end of their call and the "second" note is the start
@@AlexRoseGamesYEAHHH i always noticed that little hoot at the end, i always was so intrigued by the woodpidgeons call
I love this sound so much....It's so perfectly to me . I wish we had Wood pigeon in the US.
Well, we have the mourning dove, which has a similar call.
Listening to this in Vancouver... sometimes we get homesick for the strangest things! Thanks for transporting me back home, just for a minute.
They are soooo beautiful!!!!
I really like how round and cute pigeons are. They start cooing around 4AM in my area. 🕊️
This is pure nostalgia
Their irises look so different! Any idea why they have the oval shape? Thanks again for introducing us to the "common" birds which are so interesting to people from other parts of the world!
You have a good eye for detail, I hadn't noticed this before! I found an answer in a bird forum - its seems that although wood pigeons appear to have non-circular pupils, the pupil is in fact circular but due to a spot of dark pigment in the iris, the pupil seems to be non-circular. No idea what advantage the dark pigment on the iris gives though.
Could be similar to goat, but rather then horizontal for a 360 view of all land predators. Angled to scan above for air predators, below for food, and sideways for land predators
Every brit knows this sound
Stand up for the British alarm clock every morning.
As a Brit living abroad, I do miss hearing this, especially on a balmy summer evening. Something about it is comforting to me.
I just discovered that a wood pigeon couple has built a nest in the tree right outside my window 💕 I feel so privileged I get to watch them, they are one of my favorite birds. Though now I never open that window because I don't wanna risk disturbing them, haha.
I spent 7 years in england and I can still pick this sound out, takes me back to my childhood.
i hear them sometimes when we go to our village...such peaceful song
Wow finally found out what it is after over 10 years of wondering :O
Glad the video helped solve the mystery! Thanks for watching :)
Banger songs only people from the UK know
One same love couple come to my garden every year. They are so cute, and make my day so much better 😊😊😊
2014. Getting dressed to get ready for primary school. It was gonna be a hot day today, so you could were a skirt or your shorts. You remember to put on your suncream before leaving the house, with your bookbag in your hand.
I remember the first time i saw a woodpigeon as a kid. I said to my mother "look at that fat pidgy over there, mum!" 😆
basically all you ever hear in the UK
I had to come listen to this bird call because in Susan Branch's book: A Fine Romance: Falling In Love With The English Countryside, she says the birds sound like they're saying, "My toe hurts, Betty!" And they do!
Omg, I cannot unhear this now. 😆
If you can’t hear this sound right now you probably don’t like where you live
Reminds me of being around 5 to 8 years old. Could hear it everyday without fail outside with my friends
Wait it's not an owl making this sound??.... what!
Omg I absolutely love wood pigeons!! Their my fav I love them so much! Their so peaceful to watch absolutely love listening to their calls
I love them with a bit of Barley and New Potatoes. 😋 Only joking 🤔.
If there is a "European sound", this is it. Wood pigeons are ubiquitous in Europe but almost nowhere else.
im glad im not the only one that grew up with these sounds xP
The greatest dove is a wonderfull bird. Well done! Best regards, Rolf
Thanks Rolf, glad you enjoyed the video.
I so proud to say I have 2 wood pigeons that come to me. I can stand at my kitchen window and they both fly down giving me permission to come out. I then come out with some brioche rolls (their favourite) and they do circles at my feet. I need to tell them to often to calm the hell down and be patient lol. Love them though.... and the sparrows too
Love these birds.
I know what you mean, not every ones favourite but I always find them really interesting - one of the most intelligent bird species apparently.
Me too.
i couldn't eat a whole one tho.
So this is what wakes me up?
We have them here in Lithuania as well. Reminds me of old school days and cemetery.
Love how everyone in the comments is saying what they think it sounds like for example ‘you can’t go swimming’ ‘the force is with you’ ‘my toes hurt Betty’ ‘the force be with you’
As a kid I used to wake up very early and would always hear this sound coming down the chimney just after dawn. Very nostalgic
IF YOU LISTEN TO THE WOOD PIGEON COO IT SOUNDS LIKE IT'S SAYING I DONT WANT TO GO,I DONT WANT TO GO
I played this to a pigeon and it started cooing back and another pigeon flew towards me aswell
The sound of the childhood
Thank you very much I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed the call of the Wood pigeon. I have a young pigeon, around 3 to 4 weeks old. It was looking a little down, so I played your video. The young bird perked up and wandered around, she looked so much happier. My 2 budgies are watching a budgie video on my phone and the pigeon is watching a pigeon video on my laptop. This video will be a regular, thank you.
Wood pigeons are so cute and cuddly🤗
I've lost many hours of sleep because of this.
so mournful and... distant
like the bird can be calling right next to you but it still sounds like miles away
Grew up listening to this beautiful sound
Wow, this is very beautiful footage! Fantastic video my friend, great work! Thumbs up from me 👍
Thank you, glad you enjoyed the video!
Какие они красивые, фантастически красивые.
“It’s YOU who’s stupid!”
This one sounds very different than all the other doves/pigeons. For some reason this one is funny to me
Absolute tune
It's very nice to hear their cooing! At home, I am not so lucky because I have no pigeons that come in my feeders! Very nice video! Celine
Power of Love?
Wow, this was so nastolgic to hear this call! Haven’t heard these birds in over 20 years- thank you so much for sharing!
reminds me of my grandparent’s house, it is so quiet and you hear them all the time
as a kid I always thought it was saying "wood piiiiig-eon, pigeon... wood piiiig-geon, pigeon..."
I LOVE this sound. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
It's just so utterly beautiful, I really do
Someone told me that the pigeons are saying "It's hurting, daddy!" and I've never been able to un-hear it. Thought I'd share that little bit of misery with you all
On a more positive note, try hearing 'a proud wood-pig-eon' :) Thank you for watching!
@@MyBirdingYear That's certainly a lot nicer! I'll try and reprogram my mind
My mum reckons they are saying “your dirty “ so now I can’t unhear that lol
@@barefootangel3634 oh shit its in a fucken british accent as well
Oh it could be saying " My burger tastes good. My burger tastes good."
Wonderful close up shots, very nice video
Many thanks!
You can't mistake it with any other bird or animal at all! It's so distinctive! ☺
Everyone in the british isles knows this banger
I value people who love animals and they are very special people
Absolutely agree with your principle
people who are animal lovers are worth having the time of day for as these people will usually be kind ❤ and have empathy ❤and compassion as they also realize that animals have feelings and emotions ❤ just like people they also sense fear
It never gets tired of this song. "hrr, hrrrrr, hrrr, hrr-hrr.... hrr, hrrrrrrrrrrr, hrrr, hrr-hrr.... hrr, hrrrrr, hrrr, hrr-hrr.... hrr, HrRrRrRr, hrrr, hrr-hrr.... hrrr..
I get so nostalgic when i hear this sound.
WE MAKING IT OUT OF MY GRANDMAS GARDEN WITH THIS ONE 🔥🔥‼️
Thank you! ❤
Good video Friend! Thank you for sharing it with us!💖👌👍😎JP
Thanks JP,. and thanks for your support as always.
Your very welcome my Friend! Have a wonderful week! and a Merry Christmas!🎄🎁😎
I wonder what they're saying? - whatever it is it's always the same thing - wood pigeon conversations must be extremely limited to put it mildly
That's a very good point :) They're usually either trying to attract a mate or defend territory so I guess the one call is enough!
They have other ways to communicate potentially, that's when they can get together with starting a pigeon Muay Thai session.
When I was a kid, I could do this noise so well
The woodpigeon on my windowsill bobbed its head to this
Very similar sounding to a eurasian collard dove!
Got a pair of these nesting in a tree right under my bedroom window...noisy lol!
I can imagine that would be noisy! Hope it's not too bad, and thanks for watching!
@@MyBirdingYear Been having them for a few years now unsure if the same pair but they hang about my garden everyday and don't seem that bothered about me at all, they land close by often catching my gaze..cute really!
god, these birds, they are adorable!
Cute and handsome
It sounds like theyre saying "Potatoes! Love em!
Using this to look for pigeons in the attic
This reminds me of waking up at grandma's house
Never heard them at my house but always at nanny's
Dit is dus da takke beest waardoor ik iedere ochtend wakker wordt.
They either say "Hello, I'm alive", "Let's have sex", or "This is my tree, get away from tree you immigrant pigeon that is literally me". It's either survival, arousal or pure jingoism.
This is what I wake up to in the morning
the sound of waking up
Whenever I was sleeping at mmy grandmas I would always wake up to this noise.
It was nice t o listen to this
"A sea of honey. A sky of honey."
Very similar to our mourning doves here in the states. They were the childhood anthem here.
my cat got crazy from this video
