They forgot cream pies like chocolate, lemon, coconut, banana, peanut butter to mention a few. There are also no bake pies!
Would have been very interested in seeing their reaction to a lemon meringue pie. Other pies like banana cream are probably not as interesting since they've had banana pudding before.
How many pies do you expect Josh and Ollie to eat?
@@harryballsak1123What about their crew?
@@AC-ni4gt What's that got to do with pieces of pie? They already had what 9 pieces. Not counting the Frito thing. I'm sure that guy shut down his place for the shoot that day. You could make the case for replacing the marriage pie( which I never heard of) and funeral pie( which I also never heard of ) and the shoo-fly pie with 3 others and also dumping the Frito thing.
Apple, Blueberry, Pecan, Pumpkin, Sweet Potato and Key Lime are pretty common and pretty representative so those should stay.
Yes, crumbles are very much a thing in America, only we call them cobblers!
Peach cobbler is the most popular in the south. My dad literally learned how to make it in a frying pan...
crumble is actually closer to a "betty", taht is with more of a topping, Cobbler has more of a biscuit (American) topping, a little bready like.
Or a pie casserole
We also have crisps, like apple crisp. I don't like the oatmeal that has seemed to overtake every single crisp recipe. I use an oatmeal free recipe.
@@ZakhadWOW it’s still more similar than it is dissimilar…
Pecan pie with a scoop of blue bell vanilla ice cream is the best dessert of all time
My favorite pie is pecan-chocolate pie. Just, like, 1 cup of good quality chocolate chips into the pecan batter transforms it, and all the chocolate sinks to the bottom during baking. The sweet-nutty-chocolate combination is heaven!
Pecan pie doesn’t get enough love
We do eat savory pie like chicken or beef.
also turkey pot pie is good...and I have made sheperd's pie a few times.
in Pot Pie form... we would never make a savory pie in the same form as a the dessert ones. That's the big dividing line in North America
Pot Pies
the chef is classic Mississippi - very friendly, sharp-witted, and a great sense of humor
a lot of brits think anyone from the south is some drawl slobbering moron. most people are like him. just normal dude.
11:30 A proper Key Lime pie is made with key limes. Key limes were more ubiquitous 100 years ago but as they're less resistant to diseases and such, they're more of a niche item today. But the difference is real, key limes are stronger and have a distinct flavor. Key lime pie is heaven! Especially on a hot humid summer's day!
Key Lime pie, cake, cookies. OMG!
Blueberry is my favorite fruit pie.....soooo good.....a must try🎉
Crumbles yes, Pies, Tarts, Crumbles, and Crisps (NOT what Brits think of as crisps, no) the US has them all. My Mom was a professional baker and so our family opened a bakery. Mom's specialty was pies and one of my favorites, which is missing here is, the Lemon meringue pie
Yes!!
Would a cobbler be similar to a crumble?
@@harryballsak1123a cobbler has batter over the fruit only while a crumble has nuts and other toppings
We have crumbles also.
It's all about apple, pecan, and sweet potato when it comes to me and pies.
Pecan, sweet potato, and blueberry for me :)
If you want a savory pie, you need to look up pot pies. The frozen aren’t very good anymore but homemade or restaurant style are still good.
In the US, Shepherd's pie is normally made with ground beef, then topped with mashed potatoes. In New England, English-style pork pies compete with French Canadian pork pies [tourtieres].
Shepherd's Pie is SUPPOSED to be made with Sheep meat, not beef. Beef = COttage Pie, but no one in the US calls it that.
Nuts grow on trees. FYI, peanuts aren't really "nuts". They're legumes, i.e. they're related to peas.
We also do hand pies that have all types of savory fillings.
I think one of the big issues is Americans hear pie and normally think of the Pie shell/dish immediately, forgetting the Hand Pies, Pot Pies, etc
2:00 No ice cream? CALL THE COPS!
Yes but what kind of ice cream? Mayfield, Häagen-Dazs or Blue bell The flavor being vanilla of course
I'm wondering where the milk was the entire time.
Pretty much every major American holiday has a big feast. We are a people who like to eat lol.
I'm surprised he didn't let them try a Mississippi Mud Pie with him being a Mississippian 🤷🏾♀️
I don't think he wanted to put them in to a coma, a sugar coma.
@snowassassin2177 too late for that lol

Hey - for some reason your speech is not matching up with your mouth, Thurston. Their speech/mouths are fine.
I don't get how his audio and video were not in sync, but the Jolly video was.
Likely an encoding error on the
We do have crumbles. Oatmeal/sugar topping.
We have pies, crumbles, cobblers, pan dowdies, crisps, and then, without crusts, etc, compotes. My family's not much on savory pies--it just seems odd. I'd rather make a mashed potato topping for something like chicken pot pie instead of using crusts.
Try a drop biscuit top crust on chicken pot pie. Yummy.
The "Frito Pie" is called a Walking Taco where I'm from you'll find them often at sports event in high school.
perhaps one could claim Ftiro Nachos I suppose
😋Huckleberry pie with ice cream!
I thought about getting one when I went to a farmer's market last weekend, then I saw the $50 price tag lol.
@tylerferguson3707 you need to pick your own huckleberries or else it's way too expensive.
This video is making me crave a tall ice cold glass of milk❤
Same. A nice tall chilled glass and ice cold milk.
i see the like and subscribe at the end helped you add more viewers . like you bro you are a good guy
It's called funeral pie because it was a staple in the early 19th century at Pennsylvania Dutch and German (primarily Amish) funerals. It was so synonymous with funerals that "We'll be making raisin pie, soon" was the way to communicate that a family member was very I'll.
Raisins are always in season so ingredients were readily available, raisins don't require peeling or any other preparation so they were easy to whip up. The pies travel well in a bouncy buggy/wagon and didn't arrive at their destination shaken apart. They are also less prone to spoil than fresh fruit pies.
The Pennsylvania Dutch and Germans/Amish/Mennonite were known for throwing elaborate funeral dinners. So much so, that people who didn't even know the deceased would often come for the food.😊
Pies in the US are mostly sweet. If you say PIE to an American they are likely thinking of something sweet not savory. I find it weird that Brit haven't heard of or eaten blueberry pie. Anyway this video covered most of my favorites which are blueberry, pecan, pumpkin, sweet potato and key lime in no particular order. There are others but if I was to randomly order a pie to eat it would be one of those 5 most of the time
Our savory pies are normally single serving and known as 'Pot Pies'. Beef, Chicken & Shepherd's Pies are most common. BTW, what is the deal with their huge bites? I have been told their utensil handling is normal there, and I can kind of get past that, but they take such huge bites as if they're afraid someone's going to steal their food from them. I can't imagine them ever being invited to a state dinner again, if they eat like that everywhere they go.
We do have 'crumbles' but we tend to call them 'crisps', as in an 'apple crisp', etc.
Pot pies can also be family size, but they’re usually homemade rather than restaurant servings. I hope they don’t eat like that normally either, but I have a feeling they’re just exaggerating for comedy.
I've always wondered about that. How can you enjoy the food if you're practically choking on it by taking such a big bite. Slow down. No one's going to take it away ... or are they?
That's just a taco salad!! And Blueberry is a top 5 pie in America.
I grew up with pasties and pot pies in Michigan. Pot pies are a stew backed in a pastry shell. Pasties we got from the Cornish miners who immigrated to Michigan way back in the olden days.
Frito pie was popular in the 1970s. Also called Taco pie if made with tortilla chips. Layer of Fritos, then chili or taco meat, then shredded cheese, bake then possibly a dab of sour cream and chopped onions. Cilantro or salsa can be incorporated also.
he put the lime in duh coconut...he drank em bott up.....
i can't see ppl's icon's .. can you?
We have crumble deserts, but I think crisps or cobblers are more well known, like apple crisp, or peach cobbler. But it just varies if a streusel is called for as the topping, or oats, or biscuits/cake/cookie bits.
Yeah. American fruit pies are basically just very large tarts with a top crust in addition to the bottom crust. I love them. They can be very easy to just wing it as long as you can buy the raw rolled up pie crusts from the store. I use flour as the thickener for the juices that will come out of the fruit as it bakes. I don’t add sugar, because if you add sugar then you also have to add lemon juice to balance it out when most fruit is perfectly balanced flavor wise to begin with. You can make vegan fruit pies, but pie crusts usually contain eggs. (You’d have to make a vegan pie crust from scratch and it won’t work well or taste very good) Some types of fruit don’t work well by themselves in pies and some need to be cooked a certain way before adding them to a pie, but those are usually only very juicy fruits or fruits that should not be eaten raw and unsweetened. (Rhubarb or cranberries or crabapples or citrus or some berries that have too many little hard seeds)
I did go to a wedding once where every table got their own apple pie, instead of a traditional cake. It was fun and delicious!
Frito pie is really big in Texas and simple to make. It’s not really a pie.
Neither are Boston Crème or pizzas, but history and poetic license.
Shepard's Pie is called Shepard's Pie in America but that style of baking savory stuff in a dish like that without a pastry crust, we call a casserole. My mom used to make a hamburger pie when I was a kid, it was good.
My mom makes a turkey pie with the Thanksgiving leftovers. It's full of gravy and peas and carrots and is amazing! I feel like savory meat pies are slightly less common than dessert pies here in America, but we do enjoy them.
We do have savory pies in the U.S. I don't make them myself often, but there are plenty in the frozen food section. Frozen chicken pot pie, beef pot pie, turkey pot pie, Shepherd's pie. etc. I buy them at least once a month when I'm too lazy to cook and serve them with a side salad. It's good.
You can go there if you're close to London
Everywhere in the UK is close to London, except NI!
Pies are usually for dessert and pot pies are savory for meals.
Sweet potato pie and shut my mouth. 🤪
we have crumble gallette tarts deep dish pizza pie or other kinds pot pies with turkey or chicken or beef
I'm glad they showed Key Lime. Wish he'd made it actually Key way, which allows the lime to be more tart, less sugar, less smoothness, more bite. Also, Key lime they also tend to use the zest as well as the juice and usually add a touch of green food coloring to make the filling more green. Yes, it's a cheesecake-type filling, usually very firm. Some prefer dollops of whipped cream on top, others go for a single whipped cream ring around the edge of the crust on top and a larger one in the center. More often than not, it's actually decorated with lime half slices as well, to enhance the limes. Also, not every lime works. The Key lime has thinner rind and is smaller, seedier, more acidic and more aromatic than the Persian lime (Citrus × latifolia). It is valued for its characteristic flavor.
Shoofly is Pennsylvanian Dutch (German history). It's name is because it is so sweet smelling that it attracts flies when done right and you are having to shoo them away to enjoy it. Molasses and sorghum are byproducts of the sugar industry and, although they are sweet, they also have an earthy richness and a bit of heft to them. Shoofly is very dense and stiff, sometimes with a consistency similar to taffy. It is very much a mouthful in every bite and usually people want a chaser to help with it, either black coffee or tea or milk.
Funeral pie is, simply put, an experience. Yes, it has raisins, yes it has sour cream. But the flavor isn't overwhelmingly either/or. My family makes these, not surprisingly, for funeral dinners. It's suitable because it's a more savory, somber pie. It's not a lot of sugar, it's not bright and cheery to detract from the mood of the situation. It's meant to be subdued, reserved, calming. I would suggest you try it at some point and keep an open mind.
19:20 pumpkin pie one of my favorites out of the bunch. 21:13 sweet potato pie too. 17:23 pecan pie too
I’ve never had that funeral pie, I know i’d hate it. My favorites are pumpkin pie and strawberry rhubarb pie
11:02 key lime pie also is a fave.
It’s like candied pecans, but the candied part is soft/gooey.
Shepherd's Pie (lamb), Cottage Pie (beef) and Chicken Pot Pie may be "savory" variations of pie. And, of course a Pizza Pie.
My mother's side of the family is from York, PA and whenever we visited, my grandma would always have a Shoo Fly Pie (which I love). That being said, my dad's side of the family is Southern and I do not care for Sweet Potato pie. It's like a bland Pumpkin pie. Of the other pies shown, I love Pecan pie.
Your dialogue is out of sync. Otherwise, great reaction as always. Frito pie is amazing!! You have to try it.
Blueberry, pecan, peach, and pumpkin are my top 3, even though there are four of them. It's because blueberry and pecan are a tie. I can't choose between them.
We do a few savory pies, but I think they're basically English savory pies. I haven't had any that made me swoon so I'm assuming most of us here don't do them as well as you do.
I would love to see you make some of the things you ooh and ahh over. Or your other half, if you don't like cooking/baking!
The most American Savory Pie I can think of is Chicken Pot Pie and it is incredible. Other than that, we have all the savory pies you do in Europe because you brought us here.
The "pie man" said pumpkin is a root vegetable. It is not, it's a gourd.
Pumpkin pie is amazing. Nothing comes close to it :)
I LOVE pies....sweet and savory. I love Brit. steak and kidney pie, Aksi love American berry pies....i.e. boysenberry. In my family, spices were used sparingly for fruit pies. One should taste the fruit... not just sweet gloppy filling.
Sweet potatoe is my ultimate favorite pie!
Shoefly pie sounds weird, but it's incredible. It's an Amish pie.
I'm on a diet I don't know why I'm watching this! 😋
Honey pie is really delicious. it's a custard pie. It's one of my faves. Buttermilk pie is good also, but I believe an aquired taste.
Shoo-fly pie is instant diabetes.
We normally call our savory pie is pot pies. I believe cause the fillings made in a pot.
Idk.
A peecan is what a truck driver keeps handy in his cab.
A p'cawn is how you pronounce it.
Lav, next time you're in London...
We do chicken pot pies or shepherds pie or cottage pie in the US, but I’ve never found them appetizing.
Fritos are corn chips, like Doritos they are made from corn. Pumpkin pie and Sweet Potato pie is food of the Gods. And yes, we do not say pee can.
But not like Doritos. Narrower scoop like strips.
FYI, i don't know if you did it on purpose or you're not aware but your audio isn't synched. The JOLLY video is fine but when you comment, your audio is out of sync and it was the same for the previous video you dropped.
Sweet pies are more the norm but we do have chicken pot pie, shepherd's pie, cheeseburger pie and then we have savory hand pies that are much like your pasties.
We do have crumbles but cobblers are probably more popular.
That's not cheese but whipped cream on top of the key lime pie but yes it does have more of a cheesecake consistency.
Raisins would ruin it and ruins everything else they appeared in...blech!
Sweet potato is the go-to for our family. We don't do pumpkin!
Actually, the pie guy said it was sweet mascarpone cheese. But you’re right, normally if key lime pie had any topping, which usually it won’t, it’d be whipped cream.
@@JustMe-dc6ks thanks, i didn't hear that. Definitely a twist I've never heard of anyone doing, lol.
Me neither.
Also, to reiterate what you said key lime pie is not cheesecake but does have a somewhat similar consistency.
Also, since Lav was concerned that it was one sweet thing after another, key lime pie is normally very tart, not very sweet in flavor. Pecan pie doesn’t taste as sugary as it looks and pumpkin pie is more about the autumn spice mix than sweetness.
My fave pie is peanut butter pie but frito pie is amazing😂
I always think of Frito Pie as a Texas thing. I never really seen them in Mississippi. Texas though is where Frito was invented and is the HQ for Frito-Lays.
I'm not well versed on crumbles vs cobblers, but I want to say they are closer than a pie vs crumble.
We use the word autumn as much as we use fall. Don't be mistaken.
I agree, no freakin raisins!
Yaaass! Pecan pie!
I am southern, have been all my life and I have never heard of a marriage pie.
I really hope they get to try a pecan pie
That is NOT a Key Lime Pie, if he very intentionally made it NOT tart, but extra sweet.. Extreme tartness is the hallmark of Key Lime Pie.. Yes it is sweet, but it should also make your face screw up a little bit.
6:12 Blueberry pie is my favorite fruit pie!
7:40 I am glad I'm not completely crazy, that pie on the right did not look like a blueberry pie. Turns out it wasn't!
For a pie that is not sweet, I like Chicken Pot Pie.
I had a pecan grove beside my house.
It's not pastry, pastry dough is quite different. This is pie crust.
You don’t use a knife with an American pie !!
Blame the UK for having such terrible crusts.
They are corn chips, not made with potatoes, or sliced thinly like potatoes
We have.chicken or beef pot pies. Mostly pies are for dessert. I don't know anyone who would eat kidney
We.have crumble and cobbler.
Call me crazy, but I'm not a big fan of Pecan pie, nor any pie with nuts in them. There's a walnut pie I believe, and it's doesn't set well with my pallette either. No wait, people often cover their pumpkin pies with walnuts and it's kinda nasty.
The Key Lime Pie is suspicious, mascarpone cheese on a Key Lime Pie????
Pecan Pie is king, although Pumpkin Pie is close, Cheese Cake has the potential to be #1, however it varies by source. Pecan Pie has a nostalgia point. The whole Spicy Pumpkin thing ruined the Pumpkin flavor I loved.
Only Brits would use a knife and fork to eat pies. ;-)
It was like watching one of those old Godzilla movies with the Japanese people. Their mouths are moving and no words are coming out, or you hear words being said, but their mouths are closed. The Jolly video was fine, and just like the one they put out. To tell the truth this reaction was a little hard to watch.
I don’t really people really like apple pies. I think if you have a key lime, a strawberry pie, a peach pie and an apple pie the apple pie is going to be peoples last choice. I am sure people like them but I don’t they are as popular as foreigners think they are.
What, No Cherry Pie?? All real Nuts grow on trees, peanuts are actually legumes, not nuts.
Nearly all that shits overfilled which offsets the flavor and texture. Bigger isnt always better. Hes only getting away with it because hes in the UK where nobody knows the difference.
mince meat pie
Maybe you can go there yourself.
Dude is from Mississippi and he didn't make a Mississippi Mud Pie-smh
After I saw this on Jolly channel I checked out the menu. trying to find how much the cost for a slice, kind of confusing? Please fix your audio sync. All nuts are grown on Trees. Peanuts are not really nuts. And pumpkin is not a root vegetable. They grow above the ground, not underground like potatoes.
Pumpkin is a type of squash.
And Josh was pronouncing sweet potato oddly. So, dear Brits, there are no potatoes in a sweet potato pie, just sweet potatoes 🍠 🍠,an unrelated tuber with orange flesh.
What is wrong with sweet pies???????
No cherry pie or cheesecake???!!! Shame!!
Yeah because meat and vegetable pies are weird.
2nd video now where the audio isn't matching your mouth.
Lav's busy with his new path.
The Frito pie is jail food.
😂 And football game food.
Don’t bother trying pears in pie. They go super bland when baked in a pie. I speak from experience and disappointment.
