Canada has a Parliamentary system of government very similar to the UK and is part of the U.K.s Commonwealth of Nations along with Australia and New Zealand. Therefore, like the U.K. and unlike the USA, there are no term limits to Canada's Prime Minister position. Also, I believe Canada's currency has King Charles III pictured on their currency. I know Queen Elizabeth the II was pictured on Canada's currency.
Canada would be a third world country if it wasn't for American businesses creating jobs in Canada. The Canadians don't allow businesses to do business in Canada unless they have a location in Canada. This eliminates online companies.
"Why is he called Prime Minister when in the US it's President?" - Because the system of government is very different from the US and modeled on the UK. As in the UK, the PM is head of the majority party in Parliament and he is head of government but not head of state (which is still the monarch of the UK). The US President is BOTH head of government and head of state and may be a different party than the one holding the majority in Congress (our legislature, analogous to Parliament).
Keep in mind that young immigrants would be having children and grandchildren to fill the void created by aging workers. Someone needs to pay taxes to financially support retired workers. Younger generations are needed to build, maintain and support the older generation.
What happened? A combination of multinational raising prices arbitrarily in food, lack of local laws to resist international investors from eating up propreties in Canada and yes definetly a lack of construction vs the Immigration rate creating a pressure on the market. But there is also the issue of short therm renting apps pushing people out of the city and taking over whole buildings. It's not really immigration by large, it's unchecked corporate/super rich greed.
Something this documentary didn't mention is that the vast majority of Canada's recent immigrants are all from one country, India. This has meant that because so many came at one time, there has been no need for them to integrate into Canadian society. They've formed enclaves, and brought their clan wars with them and are duking it out in the streets more and more frequently. It's quite sad, really. Canada never seemed to have many problems with immigration before this. At this point it's like the Trudeau government lobbed a b*mb into our normally placid, live and let live society, and destroyed it completely. Canada went from being a beautiful place to live to being unrecognizable in just a few years. Also something that this documentary didn't mention is that adding to this grief, we are also hosting heaps of asylum seekers from the Middle East, and you can imagine hiw quiet and our streets are now. Between the Free Palestine protests, Muslims blocking traffic with their prayers, and the crap the Khalistanis keep doing, this country doesn't feel like Canada anymore. In fact, several groups of recent immigrants have decided that Canada belongs to them, and is singing in the streets about how Canadians should "go back to Europe", like it wasn't our ancestors who built the country, and like most of us weren't born there. 🙄 Trudeau's government has, incidentally, turned out to be THE most corrupt government in the history of our country. His Liberal party has racked up a total of no fewer than 70 scandals, nearly any one of which should have toppled his government. But they didn't. Because Trudeau has more power to remain in office than almost any leader on the planet. It's a pretty desperate situation. More and more Canadians and immigrants alike are leaving Canada. I may well be one of them because the cost of living crisis has made it so that I will not be able to afford to stay here.
Canadian prime ministers have a chitload of power, basically unheard of in the West. There is no real oversight or checks and balances which are written down and codified into law. Such oversight must be built in to the compilation of the laws and also must be made basically untouchable. It's very important that laws should be near impossible to quickly change and fiddle around with. A prime minister gets to actually appoint judges - all by himself. These same judges often are used to 'rubber stamp' whatever draconian measure a prime minister might want to put in place.... even one put in place on a simple whim. Due to this, such incredibly massive, and quick, changes can be brought about, and all by this one single man. Trudeau is a prime example of how this current system has badly played out.
They let several million emigrate to Canada in the last few years. They figured it's easier to do it big and rip that bandage off. But they don't build nearly enough homes affordable to the average income. The housing situation is the same in the US for the housing part.
Prime Ministers are not directly elected. Presidents are. That’s the difference. In Canada and UK, Voters vote for the party/ mp they want in Parliament and if a party receives a majority of seats, their leader becomes Prime Minister. Countries with presidents like the US, voters vote for both the president directly and then congress separately. You can vote for candidates of the same party for both or different parties.
US presidents are not voted in by the people, they are elected by the states through the Electoral College. It was intended to be a fail safe to prevent charlatans and demagogues from attaining Article II powers.
Don't you get 30-year mortgages with fixed interest rate? Property taxes can increase the mortgage payment. Same with property insurance, which tends to increase, but the changes are.minimum once divided into 12 months. Also, in my situation, taxes have gone slightly down some years in cases where there was a special assessment that was paid off or expired.
Lav in Canada there is no set term to be Prime Minister of Canada. As long as the Party Leaders win there seat and get the at least 75% of the seats or more they have a majority. Prime Minister Trudeau if he wins would have his 4th term in office.
This is a catch-22. It worked the first time but over time it changes. It's happening in many countries it happened here in the US the same in the UK. By no means is Canada poor I am sure they will get out of the situation. It's like the stock market it fluctuates. They have vast mineral resources.
4:10 Canada is commonwealth of Britain eg. Prime minister and parliamentary democracy, the same as the UK. Our head of state is the monarch of the UK, although only a symbolic position today with almost entirely limited power over governance .. however, the Governor General (the monarchs - appointed - representative to Canada), does have to sign off on any Bill passed by parliament and and the senate, however they basically don’t get to deny singing where the constitution was amended in 1982 giving Canada complete constitutional independence from the UK. In contrast, the US rebelled against the British, ex Boston tea party, and wanted a system that reflected nothing of old world monarchies and autocracies. Canadians were loyalists to the crown, the defining difference between the cultures of Canada and the rebelling US today..
As a U.S. citizen, upon studying both systems (U.S. presidential/congress and Canadian parliamentary) I would opt for a hybrid..which is probably impossible. Most of us in the U.S. are aghast when the 'other party' manages to win both houses of Congress and the presidency. In Canada, that is the rule...the party than wins the election has full control. As a cynic, I often split my 'ticket' when voting in presidential election years. It may not actually matter, but I vote based on one party not being in control of both the executive and legislative branches of our government. I don't want either of our parties in full control. I prefer gridlock to what either party does when they have full control.
@@disoriented1This is partially correct, however whoever wins the most seats in Canada is the governing party and leader of becomes PM (the party can replace the leader / PM whenever they want to without a vote - this is just not precedent, or often ever done unless the public is calling for the PM to be ousted, but they can), and they are not necessarily in full control when they win, the governing liberals currently are a minority government, which means they can’t pass any bill right now without the votes and support of at least one other party, they usually have to appease these parties by amending the Bills to create wins for those other parties. The liberals did have a coalition deal with the NDP party the past 3-5 years so most all bills were going through, but the NDP leader has since rejected the coalition ahead of next years election, however, they’re still voting largely on side with the liberals .. contradicting their motives of ‘tearing up the collation deal’ .. if they don’t believe in the liberals, they should be supporting the conservatives non confidence votes to force an election now, but they won’t because the NDP are playing politics and aren’t in good shape to face a federal election currently, they’re trying to create the illusion of differentiation from the liberals with the remaining year they have … When the liberals initially got in, in 2015, they had a majority government .. which meant they could pass any bill they wanted having the majority of the seats in the house … however in saying all of this.. our senate can reject any bill passed back to the house if they don’t like it .. the difference being our senators are appointed and not elected .. but do have a life term limit of 70 or 72 years of age. … agree .. a hybrid of the two would likely be best.. I’d rather our senators be voted on .. they’re a joke role in Canada being appointed … however there have been a few times they’ve rejected things if it’s not seen as the greater good for all … there’s also the supreme courts in Canada who can also overturn the same as in the US .. but again, our Supreme Court judges are appointed and not elected … lol
Thank the Lord I was able to buy my house before the lunacy of this terrible economy!!! I also live in the US in one of the inexpensive states. I've also always been very good with finances and know how to live smaller than most people.
The shortage of a younger population would be forcing rental prices DOWN as there would be a glut of housing, vying for renters. It's this sort of stupidity that allows 1%ers to continue fleecing those that don't think for themselves.
I knew about the Canadian housing crisis, but I wasn't sure why. It's similar in the US with average homes costing $500,000, now they've started building tons of apartments that are built just as flimsy as our houses, except they're multiple stories. They let people flood through the borders to get cheap labor and people willing to work, after 25 years of destroying the education system here, even our Doctors are morons now.
Remember the vast majority of America is insanely poor as well lol the only reason they are considered rich is because of the select few are insanely wealthy lol
Our brothers and sisters north of us in the US have been pounding the table over what’s really been going on. And the quiet ones have understandably been trying to avoid putting a target their backs. Canada has gotten to the point of making California seem conservative. And it’s going to take them going hard in the other direction to even bring it back to center. If I didn’t know what was happening in Canada already??? I might have suggested sending them help in the form of the 12-20 million illegals that have flooded us.
The only one with a target on his back is the 50 year old man child Justin Trudeau. Canada’s loser, does nothing for others. Just a very sad and pathetic excuse for a leader and a man. Sad when us Millennials are more mature than this clown
