This was awesome. I was a medical professional for a fixed wing ambulance service out of Yuma Az. About 50 miles from El Centro. We flew out of the Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) and went to El Centro many times. It was great to have my old stomping grounds featured. Thanks.
He is a good pilot with some nice footage, and just a real smooth voice over. I also got instantly addicted when I came across this channel. that being said I hope I also see some footage in a couple years. the sky is the limit.
Never give up on your dream, friend. Kick ass and focus on your marks, and never let ANYONE tell you that you can't do it, because you can. Don't give up on your dream like I did because some retarded 5th grade teacher told me I wasn't good enough at long division to fly. Apply yourself and you will be fine.

I think Growler jams does a stellar job in showing the public (i.e., the non-carrier pilot crowd) a real life perspective of a naval aviator; via the ability to put them (virtually) in the cockpit for a ride along. Very insightful, with a humble, straight forward narrative given in each episode. *Well done!! Keep 'em coming!! /JH
I love it, well done! All of your videos are interesting to watch. No hyped up clickbait or Hollywood drama, just flying the damn jet. Keep it up man 👍
I’m so glad you have chosen to be part of my country’s defense and your chosen profession thanks a bunch from this old ground ponder take care Navy Blue
I look forward to seeing these vids as they come out! It's great to hear from the pilot's perspective exactly what you're seeing. Only sad part....NO SIGNITURE MOVE!!!🤣
Thank you for this clip. Was a Naval Flight Officer back in the 1980's and enjoyed the memories of an approach and the checklist challenge/replies that we went thru. Though it was in an S-3, still, fun times!
Sierra Hotel! Love these jams. At 1:45 it's cool to see your wingman in the mirror, slide into echelon formation. I can tell you've spent a lot of time studying your checklists. Your cadence of calling out the items shows the Navy way of flying. Keep them coming, BRAVO ZULU!
50 years since I was there with pilots from multiple squadrons flying 5-6 hops a day trying to get our training done before end of fiscal year. Last hop would end up North Island, where this Jersey boy would learn that only milk would put out a Mexican fire. Truly appreciate your calm smooth voice.
El Centro was the beginning of the end for me. Pulling off target for the 4th time , on the 4th hop of the day, lefthand pattern, I hear a voice say "Mark, look around now." Look to my left and see the TA-4 who is supposed to be behind me and the back of a white helmet. Leveled the wings, extra lift, and he slid beneath me. I don't know who that voice was saving that day..., me, the other pilot, or the "safety" officer's career. No debrief, never talked to either. I'm slow to 'burn' until I think things through, but by that time we were on to the 5th hop of the day. I was far from perfect with 3 instances where I lost concentration. wrong rw, ADF approach, and worst a near ATS at Nellis. But my orders in '73 were to become an ATC and head back to NAS Kingsville. Had very little self confidence most of my life and the idea of possibly becoming an instructor broke what little I had then. I DOR'd. What I'm most proud of, putting my aircraft on the 3 wire 10/11. This is where I get to say, "If I only knew then what I know now." 'fingers and toes' that's exactly how I thought of flying smoothly.
No one does the voiceover info like this. Makes it so interesting. At 1:45 you can see the wingmen in the rear view...very cool. Looking forward to many more Goshawk content videos. Thank you!
Brilliant to see the T45 featured. I had 25 enjoyable years at BAE Brough, UK, working on machine maintenance. I believe every T45 wing set was manufactured and tested there. Great years, and great work colleagues. Keep the T45 vids coming.
Cheers to those "teachers" in the fleet (i.e., the instructor pilots and L.S.O.'s) that train our young, fledgling aviators each and every day! As a school teacher, I fully appreciate the value of a teacher that can effectively convey his or her knowledge in order to obtain positive results in their students. You just can't appreciate or emphasize this important talent enough.
Great, love the detailed commentary, I was a private pilot 20Fr arts ago and talking to yourself through the checks and procedures is necessary for competent piloting. Keep up the jams
Sounding like a broken record, but dang, y’all are amazing! Love watching your videos and am amazed! Thank you so much for sharing. We are so blessed to have men like you in the cockpit protecting our precious country! Gods blessings as always, and please keep those awesome videos coming!
Absolutely can’t get enough of the Goshawk jams…such a great jet. I was so excited to make my first carrier trap in DCS but you make the real thing look so effortless!
I wish my cousin, who flew more than 200 missions in P-47s against the Nazi forces in WW2, could watch these wonderful videos, too. He remained in the USAF after that war rising to the rank of Lt. General. Before becoming a general officer, he got to fly nearly every fighter the USAF ever had. While he never talked about his work in the war, he always told me how much he loved flying those airplanes. He passed away a few years after retirement, but I know he would love to share a few of those beers with you, Pail.
My skipper was determined our squadron looked sharp around the boat. "Few see us flying away from the boat, so we shall have the most disciplined echelon when they do see us." At sea in those days we entered the break at ABOVE 250 knots. Thanks for the video.
You are the BEST!! 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼 Thank you very much for all of your jams. I appreciate highly your time, effort, and sense of humor you've put in with them. 💞💕💞 I love your jams so much! 💕💕💕
Great video as always. I live in Long Beach Ca and several weekends a year the Marines will do similar maneuvers where they line up with the runway and then circle back to land. The best part is I can walk out the front door and the plane is straight overhead with the gear down. Love that sound!
So satisfying to see and hear a true professional at work in his "office." Love the new jams, whether Growler or Goshawk. I'd fly along with Pail in Cessna Skyhawk, even.
I had the chance to talk on ham radio to another Growler pilot named Adam awhile back. I have to assume you know him. I believe he lives near Whidbey Island. Just curious. Thanks.
I love every single one of your vids! Not having been in any service or airline, my life revolves around aviation since I was 10, and your vids just are awesome!
I just really enjoy these narrated videos. I watched your earlier 'silent movie' videos and enjoyed them, too, even though I didn't really understand what was going on all the time with the on-deck maneuvering...but these voice-over videos (with your occasional "signature move" 🤣) are a true pleasure to watch...Thanks for these
Great video. I haven't been to El Centro for 40 yrs (A-7E). Looks like the facility has built up nicely. Also nice to see the Training Command deploy to sites other than home base. Great learning experience. Blue skies.
Love the T45. Live down here in Corpus Christi near the local airport CRP and they ALWAYS get my attention when coming in for the approach. Sometimes low and slow other times in formation and screaming overhead for the carrier break. Little bird with a big sound.
I'm in Kingsville, so I've been living with Jet Fuel in my veins since I was a baby lol. I can barely remember the transition as a kid from the Buckeye and Skyhawk to the Goshawk.
I had some backseat time as a Staff Sergeant in TA-4J's back in the late 70's while stationed at NAS Jacksonville on the active duty staff with the Marine Air Reserve Training Detachment there. Those end-of-the-flight carrier breaks over midfield were a blast.
I have no idea what I’m watching, but gosh darn it, when you said the other two jets “snuggle up”, I decided that you are cool! Stay safe out there. Peace to all.
Well, then I guess the best thing is to let you and your family enjoy your well-earned summer vacation!! My wife and I were at NAS North Island last week, and it reminded me of you and your podcast. So that made me check to see if you had any new episodes. In any event, me and a million of my best friends will be anxiously awaiting you return to UA-cam. God bless, J.H.
I loved this video. I was stationed at NAF El Centro from 93-96. Great memories and I must have replayed the break over the base a half dozen times telling my poor wife where our hanger and barracks were. Thanks for sharing.
Love watching this video over and over, love watching all of the videos. Better than television ! Had my EA18 G T shirt arrive today, It's great. "Fly Navy"
NAFEC was my favorite place to bird watch for the past 15 years, until I moved to Texas last fall. I miss the old Pearl of the Desert. Many many times out there at Photocalls, Blue Angels Winter Training, meeting the team, and just enjoying all the fleet traffic in the winter, spring and fall.
You could post up a full mission 11 hour video and I would watch the entire thing from start to finish. You commentary on the goings on are super interesting. Thanks for taking the time!
Hi Pail, another amazing video to make my 0330 morning coffee enjoyable.I love it! I am currently living and working in Jax FL, and my work location is 18 miles from Cecil Field, and apx 22 miles from Jax NAS. A little over a year ago, I noticed a lot of Goshawks flying over our warehouse about 500 ft off the deck with tail hooks down. This went on for most of the day. Could you please shed some light as to what kind of training these pilots were doing - I kept comming out of the trailer I was loading to watch, because it brought back childhood memories of me riding my bike to Jax NAS where my father worked to sit at the runway fence and watch touch and go landings. Fortunately, my supervisor had spent time on a base in Iraq with A-10's so he too was enjoying the show. As always thanks for what you do, and taking time to make these awesome videos for us. FLY NAVY!
If I had seen this type of video when I was in my teens, I would have made a different life choice. My dad was a B-17 pilot who flew 35 combat missions over Nazi Germany including the bombing of Dresden, which a great many people grossly misunderstand and which the media has promoted a false narrative about that mission. That's beside the point. The fact is that what my dad saw during the war scarred him to where he NEVER talked about ANY of his missions. Sadly, I think his service during WW2 also colored his perspective about flying. I wish it hadn't. I have come to realize now approaching the end of my life that what I truly regret is not having served. I am in awe of people like you Growler who do what you do with what seems effortless ease. On top of that, your calm surgical description of what you're doing in these clips is what makes them so enjoyable. I am sorry your "buy me a beer" account is no longer active. However, on the off chance that Providence smiles upon me and good financial fortune falls into my lap you'll be on my list of people who will enjoy my abundance simply because it would be the only way to tell you that I am greatful for your service. Thank you.
Flew over El Centro once in a UH-1H HUEY while stationed in SO CAL. Nice landing without a pitching and rolling deck. Great training aircraft for the Naval Aviator/Wings of Gold applicants. Narration is "spot on!"
I'm glad these are back. It's nice to watch the different variety of your videos, all of which are great now with voiceovers on. Thanks for explaining the hand signals, I find that interesting. I liked that on your carrier videos too!
Yesss, finally the T-45 jams!👏 I really loved this one, flying and smoothly landing with you was really cool😁👍! Off topic: I like the painted pail on your helmet😉...you wear your call sign with pride.
Bro you are like the Bob Ross of military aviation (and I mean that as a compliment). Such a soothing voice lmao "We're just going to paint a happy little landing here." I'd want you as an instructor 100% of the time hahaha
El Centro was my favorite place to deploy when I was stationed at NAS Miramar. My last time there was in 1979 with TOPGUN when we went there for gunnery practice.
As someone who loves planes and aspire to be a fighter pilot, Whenever I'm waiting for DCS or really anything to load, I switch to this tab which is your voiceovers playlist. have fun up there in the skies. Fly Navy.
Loving the Goshawk videos and seeing the training of the next generation of naval aviators. My nephew, a recent NROTC grad, is in initial flight training at Pensacola right now. It's comforting to know guys like you Pail are teaching him the way!
Love this video as always. You make it so personal ( as if I'm there with you and you make it understandable). I hope you continue as long as possible and I seriously Thank You sir!!!! ❤❤❤
With your voice and narrating, how much can one love your jams!! 💖💖💖 Thank you for sharing, so much fun to get to fly with you, love it!! 💞 You have good & nice upcoming week! ✈️⚓️🤍
Back in 2014, a few classic cars with a few new cars. I was parked in a hangar. It was awesome when members of the Blue Angels came by and we took a couple of pictures. Then at the last air show of the year is in Pensacola. 2014 was the first time flying when there was no money to do air shows.
nicely done keeping us in the loop! i keep hearing that a certain airline has the best pilots but in my opinion, give me an ex-Navy carrier pilot because while i'm an AF brat, you guys are the best.
It’s always good for these guys to do these dets. You never know when a little knowledge about someplace might come in handy in the future. One night after A7 RAG night quals on the Connie, they sent a couple of us to El Centro. Unfortunately the weather was below our mins. So we pressed on to Yuma (Miramar had storms). Fortunately I remembered the Yuma VOR was 15 miles north of the field(from a A4 weapons det). ATC/Tower wasn’t working. Otherwise we never would have found the runway. Shutdown with 15 min remaining
Glad to see the Navy are allowing you to put these up, really eye opening to see how it’s all done, really appreciate it!

Bro you are like the Bob Ross of military aviation (and I mean that as a compliment). Such a soothing voice lmao
"We're just going to paint a happy little landing here." I'd want you as an instructor 100% of the time hahaha
Fly Navy.
Also quick question, Were you ever a part of Civil Air Patrol, Just curious as I am a cadet.
I never did that. Looks like a lot of fun, though.
❤❤❤
That was cool thanks for letting us tag along
That's the talk through, I think I'm ready to go out and fly it now 👍 Your narration is great, thanks !
Amazing vidio! Really good to hear and see it all from the pilots perspective. Very, very smooth sir! Naval aviation at its best!
Yup, keep them coming. Training considerations and mission parameters are appreciated, especially for this GA pilot.
Nice one! Son of a Navy pilot (1943-1966) who flew just about everything F during those years. I’m enjoying your videos a lot.
With your voice and narrating, how much can one love your jams!! 💖💖💖 Thank you for sharing, so much fun to get to fly with you, love it!! 💞
You have good & nice upcoming week! ✈️⚓️🤍
You too!

Thank you 🌞
Back in 2014, a few classic cars with a few new cars. I was parked in a hangar. It was awesome when members of the Blue Angels came by and we took a couple of pictures. Then at the last air show of the year is in Pensacola. 2014 was the first time flying when there was no money to do air shows.
Nice. Thanks for taking me along.
You bet!
nicely done keeping us in the loop! i keep hearing that a certain airline has the best pilots but in my opinion, give me an ex-Navy carrier pilot because while i'm an AF brat, you guys are the best.
That was a great visual. Your carrier videos don't do altitude justice. The ground came up quick!
Take care, and happy hunting!
I enjoy the gos’jams, the training sorties are interesting as’well.
Ironclaw! Love the helmet tape. I was in VAQ-136 from 94’ to 98’
Love your videos.
Cheers!
Yup, more Goshawks please! And I'm sure there are probably restrictions, but video from activities earlier in this flight would sure be awesome too!
Practice makes perfect!! However, no two approaches & landings are identical!!
Training the next wave of carrier aviators! Love it!!
