  • In this woodturning project I work on another commission, this time to produce a coloured Witcher bowl with the Igni fire rune design inlaid into the bowl using epoxy resin. The wood used is olive ash and the dye I used in a powdered dye that can be mixed with spirits but in this case I'm using water.
    This woodturning channel, explores the uses of wood when combined with resin, epoxy, to make woodturning projects, that are easy and can be classed as art. A lot of the wood turning projects I make can be completed by the beginner through to the more experienced wood turner. If you have any ideas for artwork, wood inlays, epoxy projects please get in touch. Collaborations are always welcomes.

    Mike, I’ve watched a lot of your videos and I’ve really liked everything you’ve done. There hasn’t been a single piece i didn’t like. Having said that and watching this video, this piece is no exception! Awesome job and that wood is fantastic! Oh, and great job with that inlay and coloring.

    Great colouring in the natural wood, I couldn’t believe how the light staining improved the outside graining particularly the smooth grain section. Well done.

    the inlay really adds to the overall appearance of the bowl. I use epoxy to fill voids and holes in bowls but have never used it for a design. Really fantastic idea

    The grain by the crack is beautiful!! It's symbolic of the fact that we're all beautiful, no matter how damaged we may be. The wood was really sucking up that first stain!

      Thanks Lisa, you're right about the stain being sucked up! 😁

    Now that’s more like the colouring I prefer. Stunning bowl again Mike.
    So would you use the dremmel again or stick with the hand tools?

    • @MikeHolton
      @MikeHolton  8 місяців тому +1

      As I get better I would have to say dremmel 😀

    A question for you Mike why did you not use Millipot (sp) to fill the hole? Another beautiful example of your extraordinary craftsmanship Happy Christmas from California

      @MikeHolton  9 місяців тому

      Thanks Judy, I could have used it but resin will get deeper into the hole in case it goes deep into the wood 😀

    I like this bowl's shape and grain, especially the flaw of the crack, gives it character.
    edit, About the Dremel, I know there's a metal guide they sell for doing straight edges but it's for large flat areas not a small bowl shape but if you run it along a smaller metal edge it might work but you'd still have to control the depth somehow...how about wood burning? lol🙃

    I love your videos and great craftsmanship. I was looking for someone who can make me some small bowls for change and keys. I don't know how you feel about using resin. In your projects or commissions.

    • @MikeHolton
      @MikeHolton  Рік тому

      Hi Sammy, I have used resin quite a few times in the past so it's not a problem. Send me an email and we can have a chat about what you would like, mike@mikeholton.net all the best, Mike

    How did you get the triangle logo/inlay exactly in the centre of the bowl bottom? It might be an optical illusion, but it looks lop-sided to me. By the way, the sound reminded me of a dentist, so I am glad you reverted to a chisel 😂

    • @MikeHolton
      @MikeHolton  Рік тому

      Hi Neil, it was done by eye and although it may not look it, it is in the centre 😀

    Nice work. I am normally not a fan of coloring wood other than color the sealer gives to it unless it is an acrylic paint butt he red wood dye worked very well. I may have to try it on a turned tulip.

    • @MikeHolton
      @MikeHolton  2 роки тому

      Thanks, must admit it never appealed to me either but now I'm starting to like it. I would never normally do it on beautiful wood like olive ash but it's what the client wanted. Tulip would be perfect for colouring as its normally quite an uninteresting wood.
