I'm pretty sure Samus wasn't the first female protagonist in video games but she was certainly one of the most prominent.
I'm surprised that Metroid's finally able to crawl in Zero Mission. A real break from tradition! XP
Yeah the first are Ms. Pac-Man and the avatar in Streaking, both from 1981.
Zero Mission is the canon version. It tells the whole story, while the original Metroid only tells part of the story.
It´s remade, the original was Metroid. The story in the Nintendo videogame was controversy at best.
Great video! Space Jump is actually introduced in Metroid 2 for GB (9:15)
Zero Mission introduced Zero Suit Samus, who joined the Smash Bros roster in Brawl.
So far this year I played Fusion, super Metroid and zero mission, and now I love this franchise, can’t believe it took me all this time and I’m from the 80s
Fun fact: Mecha Ridley is a lot more difficult if you fight him after hitting 100% collection.
Wait fr? Damn that explains why he died almost instantly on my hard mode run.
In Metroid 1, "The path that leads to Kraid" is only one of two paths. The other one is through the green area of the Hideout, which needs a bomb to find, and a bomb to get out of, and I am so used to it, that I always think of the other path as being just the way back.
This was cool. Thanks for making it
Do you know about Metroid Planets fan game? It is the original game made in game maker with a brand new scenario that is like an 8-bit Super Metroid demake. Super well done and the best way to play Metroid 1 with max health upon a respawn, a map, and such quality of life additions.
Been playing the OG version since '88 I like it better. Love Metroid franchise!
Despite getting lost and frustanting a lot when I played Zero Mission this year, I can tell its is a good game, I just think the Metroid series aren't for me though.
Hey, I wonder if this year you will finally do the Paper Mario TTYD retrospective or not?
The lack of distinguishing features added to the disorienting aura of NES Metroid. You’re always asking yourself “wasn’t I just here?” We didn’t play games for “quality of life” in the 80s 😂
So as someone old enough to remember playing the first Metroid when it came out, not having a map was a plus.
People that have never played the original - hear me out. Part of the excitement about the game was making the your own map. Play for a little ➡️ draw a section of map, play more, draw more, etc etc. Your friends took a different route through the game and had a map of an unexplored area. Eventually, a full color map was release in the players handbook, but for the year before the book, Metroid was the hardest and most confusing game Nintendo released to date. At that time, hard was good.
sheeeesh alright b e t. i have a huge sketchbook and art skills so that'll definitely be more fun than looking stuff up every little while. i knew i made the right choice in playing it mostly blind up to now from what little ive played thank you
Yeah, that's all cool and all... when you're a kid in the 90s with literally nothing else to do and have time to figure all that out. Now, it's just a major hassle.
@@Ponkdonker I was an 80's kid :) We played the game the month it was released. We had no choice but to draw the map
@@Ponkdonker There's always something else you could do. Don't blame the calendar for a lack of willpower.
Yeah, I'd personally rather use the romhack that just gives me the full map on pausing instead. It makes a lot more sense in then grander Metroid continuity anyhow imo, because there is really no reason Samus wouldn't have a full map of the active parts of the planet. Kinda like how Metroid 2 not having a map at all makes sense to me aswell, because it is some dark caves lost to time(with none of the researchers sent there ever returning) and it can be reasonably assumed that whatever data there was about it has been lost.
wait, you telling me that in the original game, you started from the start when you died? Holy fking sht. Good thing I played zero mission over the original
You do not. You start from the elevator in the area you were in when you died. All your progress is saved when you die, so you keep all items you have collected.
got into metroid. can't get into the nes graphics so I went gba
Zero Mission is bumper bowling. It pales in every way to the original. If you are too snobbish for 8-bit games you'll likely never know true difficulty in an action game. Also, you're missing on tremendous amounts of charm.
You are an absolute fool if you 'can't get into NES graphics'. You honestly deserve stuff that would get this comment removed.
Wonderful review! Thank you. However, I love the original, no matter what.
Think you could do Conkers Bad Fur Day?
I would call Zero Mission a retelling or reimagining rather than a remake. It's basically a new game with the plot and map of the old one
For someone nort much it may brig the changes here too.
Metroid 1 is still king. Hear me out:
1). Metroid HD: install the HD pack in Mesen NES emulator and enjoy metroid 1 with awesome music and graphics
2). Morph Ball Jump: you can un-morph and jump in mid-air if you don't press anything on the d-pad after un-morphing
3). Power Beam Spam: you can hold the fire button (B) and spam select or other inputs (up/down) to increase rate of fire
4). Wall Wrap: you can get stuck in doors and wrap the screen to locked areas to skip sequences in the game
Zero Mission has some nice quality of life improvements, but I feel like it takes away too much from the original game.
First timers should play Zero Mission not the original.
The original is so much cooler than the remake. Difficult, and sometimes very annoying, but ultimately so much more rewarding.
I had to watch this one while pretending to take a dump in the toilet. My wife refuses to allow Japanese video games in our house 😫
Why?
I wouldn’t be caught dead with such a woman.
That's either dumb or racist.
Too bad. They are usually the best ones. Show her Animal Crossing or Pokemon. She might reconsider.
