Block printing is an age-old Indian art form. Hand carved wooden blocks are used to print the patterns on fabric like cotton and silk.
For multi-colour block printing, the number of blocks like background block, outline block and filler block are used.
Paints:
Usually, block printing is done using dyes(natural/synthetic), binder and fixer but in this video, I have shown an easy way to do it using fabric paint. Fabric paint I used here is Fevicryl's blue cap one. The paint doesn't fade or comes off after washing the fabric. If you have fabric paints of a different brand then you need to mix textile medium in the paints and also, follow the instructions given on the bottle. Acrylic paints mixed with the textile medium can also be used in place of fabric paint.
Fabric:
Cotton and silk fabrics are the best options for block printing.

Rather then mostly pigment colours are used for block printing not paints
These are specially formulated pigments for fabric painting and can be used for block printing without any second thought
Stunning! I love how you use the foam to soak up the paint - I usually use a briar but this seams a lot easier!

Using mild soap and tooth brush
Amazing ! U have suggested silk cloth but if there is starch on that cloth does it matter on paints we use ?
You need to wash the fabric first to remove any trace of starch then only any kind of paint will work.

I think fabric paint is a cheap option. 500ml bottle costs less than 300/- and is enough for a bedsheet or saree.

Yes, washable. Follow the instructions written on the fabric paint bottle.
One more question...what's binder paste,color n fixture,dhapli used in block printing??if u read pune mirror m sure u vl be aware of the workshops happening in pune for block printing...the items listed above are used by them.

The pigment is mixed with binder and fixers (chemicals) in block printing. Binder helps pigment to adhere to the fabric and fixer helps in strengthening of binder to hold on pigment. You should attend the workshop to learn how the pigment paste is made.

No, it will not. I used fevicryl fabric paint and have already washed my cushion covers thrice but the color is still intact. You can see the picture here
