  • Wednesday September 16 2020 at 9.09. The 8.53 Taunton to Newcastle (14.32) train. This crossing was filmed on a damp day in 2012 as one of the last with the lower resolution camera. Since then not much has changed. There are new lights and the barriers have been cleaned a little. Even the £99 offer at the garage is unchanged. This is very much on the eastern edge of the built up area around Weston but it is the crossing nearest to the popular resort. It has a bit of an identity crisis. There was a station here until 1964 and even that had three different names. The Co-op built a creamery here and milk trains had a siding. The garage now operates from that building.

Officially called Puxton & Worle level Crossing and not Weston-Super-Mare level crossing! It also is one of not very many crossings in the country to have no audible claxon/alarm at all when being lowered!

If its called Weston Super Mare then everyone in the country knows where it is and if there was a major crash there tonight, BBC News would call it Weston Super Mare, not Puxton & Worle. The railway has never updated its crossing names so they use all sorts of out of date names that local people never use and they end up with 19 level crossings called 'Church Lane'.
