That's using the Home+ 4 app. It's a great 3rd party homekit app. There are lots of custom icons you can use. I made a video about a year ago when the app got a big update. ua-cam.com/video/Nmm2FmgtYPk/v-deo.html
I cannot WAIT to use my newfound HomeKit setup and automation I’ve setup (thanks to you) for Christmas this year! No more archaic plugin timers that get stuck at 6am and never turn my lights off 😒😂
Haha I hear ya! It really makes it so much better! I set lots of stuff to come on automatically in the mornings which is awesome to have all those Christmas vibes going on as everyone gets up each day. I also like to make things like the Christmas trees, etc come on when we arrive home and turn off when we leave. Set it and forget it! It works great. Thanks for watching!
I bought these lights for outside but missed the part where you need a dedicated router to run the lights on. When it changes effects with a playlist, some strands lag, which looks bad. I have 1,100 lights, which is well under their 4,000 light limit. These a great for a tree but I wouldn’t recommend for outside. Twinkly advised that there is a large data dump each time you change effects, which is why you need a dedicated router.
Hey A quick one, how can I add my two Twinkly which are joined to a "cluster" within Twinkly app? How I can control this together from homebridge? Do you have any idea? Thanks.
Can you adjust the speed of the different color profiles? They go too fast for me when the Christmas tree is in the living room in the corner of my eye blinking like a discotheque.
I was at Lowe’s today and they actually had a Twinkly artificial tree you could buy. The number of lights that came installed on the tree looked a little sparse but nothing another set of lights couldn’t fix. Your video makes two strands look pretty full but I’m curious how tall/wide your tree is? Trying to figure out how many strands I would realistically need to have the tree look full of lights. Great video as always and really looking forward to next week’s Christmas scenes!
Hello! What do you do with your Twinkly Lights after Christmas? do you eliminate them from the HOME app and you keep them in a box until next year (in order to avoid "disconnected messages") or do you keep it in the HOME app even thought you are not actually using them, or do you manage to use it somewhere else besides the tree so you could keep using them all year long? I have like a 600 lights extension and don't know what to do with that by the end of every year...
Thanks @@ShaneCreates ! I think that these are very expensive lights for using them just for a short period, but I guess that's the way, with this specific twinkly lights... will do the same, thanks!
The best time of the year. I love it. Looking forward to see your holidays setup. I already setup my Wemo outdoor plug and it’s ready to be use in the next few weeks. I’m waiting for the HomePod mini’s to arrive in order to establish a home hub and do some automations. See you next week.
Great video for the holiday season! I saw that you have switchbot plus plug in... does it work? Now that ifttt costs. I can not use the work around you gave in one of your previous videos. Thanks! Happy Sunday!
Thanks! I’ve been playing around with some plugins but still haven’t been able to find one for the Switchbot that works reliably. Too bad IFTTT cost now. I’ve still been using that method for my Switchbot/homekit integration still. I don’t use ifttt for anything else though so I can create up to 3 applets for free I think.
My tree is probably about 6.5ft...maybe 7ft. At first I put one strand of 250 on it. It did work fine, but obviously the more lights, the better the effects and everything will look. I added the second strand of 250 (totaling 500) and the effects look great. If you look at last year's video I made on them, I actually showed what they looked like with 250 vs. 500 lights on my tree...maybe that will help give you an idea.
Thanks, Shane, perfect timing, I was just looking into these. A question, how many lights do you have on the tree in this video, and how tall is the tree? Is it 250 x 2 strings = 500? I was going to buy the 600 light version for our 8ft tree, but wonder if that is enough, or not.
Yes, I have 500 lights (250 x 2) on this tree. The tree is about 6.5 ft tall. I would think 600 would be plenty for an 8ft tall tree. I actually started with just 250 on mine at first, and it was fine, but obviously the more lights the better the effects will look. Also, if it helps, Twinkly has a light calculator on their site: www.twinkly.com/leds-calculator/
Hi Shane! I see @minute 4:29 that you have a “Switchbot Plus” plugin. Are you using that plugin for your switchbots? I’ve used your previous video to add them via IFTTT
Hey David. I have continued trying to get other plugins to work with swithbot (without needing IFTTT) but still haven't been able to find one that works reliably.
Great video Shane! I just bought some last week! Can’t wait to integrate mine do use use the rgbww or just the rgb and does the music dongle work for all versions
Thanks Sedrick! Hope you love your lights as much as I do! I just have the rgb lights, not the special edition. The Twinkly Music should work with any of their Gen 2 lights.
Thanks Jonathan! I made a video about a year ago on hoobs: ua-cam.com/video/N26aSimVF2s/v-deo.html I'm also considering making a new video in the near future setting up hoobs or homebridge on a NAS.
@@ShaneCreates Oh I must of missed that video somehow, I’ll check that out now thanks and that would be a great video. I wish I had the compatible Synology NAS to run docker but mine doesn’t support it unfortunately.

Thanks Ian! Sure, I meant to add that to the description (updating it now). But here's the link if you want to download it for yourself: geni.us/XmasShortcut
Thanks Shane for this. I’ve tinkered with it to get Siri to add a personal message to my family. I plan to change the message every night so when my kids get up and use the shortcut each morning, they will get a different message. Might add a Xmas song too.
Great video, Shane. Still trying to convince my wife that we need these Christmas lights. However, if I would win them, she wouldn't be able to argue against it, right? Wait, US residents only. AGAAAAAIN. :(
I’ve bought mine last year, put in the tree and said nothing to my wife ;-) she found the effect amazing and later she cried when she saw the price tag ;-)

I made a video a while back when I first got hoobs in a box. It is practically plug n’ play. If you are installing it on your own device, then it’ll be a little different.
Hello Shane, i’m subscribed to your youtube channel, are you ansewering questions from your subscribers because a have a problem with one of my lock Yale assure sl. ?
Hey Pierre, thanks for subscribing! I try to help out any way I can. Unfortunately I haven't used the Yale locks personally so I'm not sure how much help I can be with that one.
@@ShaneCreates hi thanks for reply I just checked on amazon.co.uk on the picture it shows HomeKit on the bottom on the HomeKit logo I did not noticed it says validation pending if it does not work with HomeKit I will be sending them back not paying £129.99 if it does not work with HomeKit it is misleading and they are twinkly second generation RGBW special edition that what it says on amazon UK from a company call FESTIVAL LIGHTS LTD
