THANK YOU!! This is my first time watching this movie, EVER!! What a wonderful treat for me and many others who've never had an opportunity to see it. It may be an early movie role for Rudy, but he displays so many wonderful qualities that propelled him to stardom--grace, elegance, refinement, charm and that wonderful ability of his to draw cast and viewers to him. And it's all so natural and effortless on his part. THANK YOU, again. :-)
Wow....the nightclub young lady is short, plump, and does nothing (for an act), beyond prancing.... Almost zero talent, performed to thunderous applause..... What great job, to have and to hold (on to....!!!) Valentino is magnetic, as always... To give a character named "Jimmy," to an exotic man like Rudolph Valentino. shows imagination, that's for sure.... A very good actor, to feign fascination, with this make-up caked, little woman.... Of course, Agnes Ayres (The Sheik) wasn't much better.... Such plain actresses, paired with this most attractive of men... Melting looks, a dancer's grace, and a natural for camera work; Rudolph has it, all....!!!

This studio was not "top dog," and (evidently) was a member of all those burgeoning film companies, popping up, in the late 1910s/early 1920s.... The harsh lighting, and male/female lipstick would have aged, anyone.... However, the ladies bore the brunt, of the fashion and cosmetic missteps.... Valentino looked sleek, smart, graceful, and charming... The women were wrapped, in that no man's land of frumpy costumes, unflattering hats, caked make-up, and low-heeled shoes... It took the Parisian "Art Deco" Exhibition of 1925, to rescue female presentation....
@@marymusic8920 I agree. Yea, the men in general were luckier since you just can't go wrong with a men's suit. Men's clothes were simpler and lay better on the body. For the women, they were still half way dressing in the Victorian style. Excessive material was unflattering , and I never cared for women's hats.

Just watching the acting being done, it must have taken a very special skill to convey what was going on with looks , body gestures, and talking. I was wondering was everyone working off the script so even though you didn't hear the voices were they still speaking from the script? I have quite a few silent movies on dvd's and always wondered. 😃
It sounds like they mostly read from script to stay in character, and from the printed title cards that we read when we watch the film. From what I've read, there are a lot of lip readers out there. However, there were times actors went off script. I don't know which movie, but Fairbanks was swearing up and down in one scene. Lol. Yes, it's amazing how much silent movie actors communicated without the sound of their voice. :)

Rudolph Valentino was so very cute and handsome. He could be a leading man this very day. Timeless looks.

he looked so natural and relaxed in modern dress,didnt really like his costume films the sheik,ect.too bad he didn't make that many modern setting films.
movies have most definitely come a long way. I don't hate silent films,I actually enjoy some of them but I can't imagine sitting around today watching them if they were still popular today.
You might be surprised. I thought the way you did when I was young. Then, I saw Valentino, Chaplin, etc... I was shocked at how these films drew me in without hearing the dialogue. The films work better with the right music.
