Je hebt cowboys en cowboys. Maar de leden van het Siena Wind Ochestra zijn de echte cowboys. Fantastische uitvoering. Dit is super top orkest, mede door de fantastische dirigent .
Played this in my first concert in graduate school, along with the Hindemith Symphony in B flat and Bozza's Children's Overture. Two of the best years in my life, ever.
For the 1971 John Wayne movie. A less known John Williams composition, just brilliant. Over shadowed by his later work in Jaws, Star Wars, Superman, Raiders of the Lost Arc, ET, etc.
I played the flute and piccolo in this piece in summer last year, and our band with only 28 people practiced very hard and built great teamwork. We got silver at the end. Listening to this music always brings happiness and joy, and the greatest memory of ever.
I played the oboe part and had a standing ovation for my solo, but I was so impressed with the horn section (whom had my boyfriend at the time) because of that part, the range and technique for that prt is just outrageous!!!
Performed and recorded this many times with wind orchestra and full string orchestra. Paul Lavendars arrangement is the best. Just no reason Curnow should have varied from the original percussion parts. Professional players pick up the bad xylophone parts quickly in this Curnow arrangement. Very nice playing across all sections in this recording.
I've played both the band and orchestra versions of this (advantage of playing both a string and a brass instrument) and it's fun, but it's hard. Another case of John Williams writing exactly what the theatrical moment required.
This thing is NOT a Grade 3. I don't know what they were thinking. It's at LEAST a grade 4. My college band is having trouble playing it, and we played the piece At Kitty O'Shea's (a grade 5 listed, also much more difficult probably) with much less trouble...
Also, Song of Lir is one of my favorite pieces. Fergal Carroll's music tends to run kind of pricey though. It can be found at Maecenas Music for not too terrible a price.
Thank you Pablo!!!! This is graded at Grade 3 but this recording sounds more difficult than that! Maybe just very well played! Do you know Song of Lir? I am looking for it, by an Irish composer
This arrangement is graded at Grade 5. There's another arrangement by Jay Bocook that's Grade 3 - it sounds terrible. It's super dumbed down and abridged.
hey, that's john williams! makes it sound so easy, and so not, lol! wish i had had the priviledge to at least had tried to play his work in high school band. waay after my years there
This is ridiculously good.
At 4:45 - involuntary chills, every time. Played this in GA 10th District Band back in, oh, 1992? - and it's still one of my favorite band memories.
Rob Fulcher yeah man, when the horn section plays that tune...love it so much. The sound is so full

Man, this song is stuck in my head for good!
Absolutely! Just have this playing on your car stereo while driving into the mountains to the desert from San Diego!

This brings back memories, haven’t played this since 1989 in high school band. We had much work to master this song.

Oddly enough, Jay Bocook did ANOTHER transcription of this for the U.S. Marine Band by another publisher.
You should watch the Movie. It one of John Wayne's last movies he ever made. And one of his best.
personally I think it's his best! if not the best western ever!
