Those gaps are the same as the kerf of the bandsaw blade that was used to make the piece. In you’re making this from a single small block of wood, you’re going to have gaps. It’s the nature of this type of woodworking.

Absolutely. Though it would probably be quite significantly smaller than a fridge. The size of the two main chairs is what is I would assume what’s going to determine the dimensions of a human sized version of the whole nestled puzzle of furniture. If you make the two main chairs as big as just a regular dining chairs. Then the whole thing is more or less going to be the height and width of one chair turned upside down on another. Which is to say not that big. So the desk wouldn’t be very large, and I dont know the dimensions if you could fit your legs under it while you were sitting on the chair. But even it it turns out small, it would work as a nightstand, coffee table, bench or something else. If you were to make a human sized version you probably would choose a different material then one solid block of wood. But the idea and concept should be very durable and quite cool.

@@Mango_lol2009 a 4x2x2 block of wood would weight between 800 and 1000 lbs, a rough estimate of a table and chair set that is of similar size is maybe 300 lbs, and generally speaking you can do the same thing, sometimes even more space efficient because a lot of tables can have their legs folded in or unscrewed allowing it to take up negligible amounts of space, wood is an incredibly strong material and at this point fairly expensive you don't want chair legs anywhere close to the thickness shown, The old solution for nomadic families that need to travel their furniture is have furniture that can either be disassembled collapsed, and then maybe nested on top of that, To be entirely honest it would be fairly trivial to find furniture that would nest in the same form factor already they just wouldn't hold together in the same form factor without some form of strapping

As a seasoned mover / truck driver this would be cool in real size, but the weight of the furniture resting on one side of the desk when assembled would probably snap the side leg off. It would require some smart design choices, making the furniture that goes inside like the chairs and such very light weight, while making the desk very durable. The moment you go to put this on a dolly, all the weight of the furniture will be resting on the bottom of the box, which is one leg of the desk.
This is SO COOL - I think my two year old would actually love this. a puzzle that fits back together like his blocks, but is ALSO functional toy furniture? Amazing!
My mom had one of these in her office so if a client showed up with a kid (they weren't supposed to but it happens) the kid had a toy to play with. When it is put together it looks like an odd peice of art so it doesn't take away from the professional look of the office.
@@cal1925that one piece is definitely in backwards. I've got one of these puzzles and they are definitely cut from a single block. It's not easy but it's doable if you know what you are doing and have a good sharp saw blade.
I actually watched the wood grains carefully and they all line up except for the stool and pillow. But the opposite side of both do match, so they are backwards.
