Girl your skin got so better! I've been throughout the transition and you're encouraging me be patient. You might be the most underrated youtuber out there because you explain in so much details and deserve way more recognition
Hello, 🙂 Well, when I was starting with the Ordinary products, I really had a bad time since that was the beginning of the lockdown and I couldn't do the things I love anymore, like every one of us.😞 That's when my skin became terrible. But now after a while, it's much better since I learned to deal with the situation. I also had time to focus on the products that can help me with my skin concerns. Anyway, you really need to be patient and use it regularly but also making little breaks in between or switching products in between can make a difference. Or may change the products that you think do not work well for your skin needs. Most people do not see any results because they stop after a few weeks. But it would help if you used them for at least 6-8weeks to see results. Regarding UA-cam, it's not everything like it seems to be 😉 Be careful who you trust. 🙂 Happy to help 😀
Thank you sooo much!!! This is the exact combination I was trying to know more about, I have been using the niacinamide serum for almost 2 years now, it has transformed my acne and hyperpigmentation, but I wanted to introduce retinol in my routine to help with scarring. Rosehip oil ig is the perfect starter as it has small amount of tretinoin. I hope it works for me! This video has encouraged me so much. All the best!
Hey :) Well, I'm happy to let you know that you can use them together haha😊 Wow, two years of using Niacinamide is a long time! I'm happy to hear that it works so well for you! :) Yeah, starting with the oil before getting into Retinoids is a good idea, and maybe this will already be enough for your skin, who knows! :) Keep me up to date :)
@@MelissaVanDijkOfficial Yeah patience is the key! It's feels so good to see such informative videos, thank god we came out of the 'apply toothpaste on your zit' phase. Will surely keep you up to date! Have a great day :D
@@namyapatiyal183 Hi. I've been using rosehip oil for over 6 years now (it's my only go to skincare since I stopped using makeups and chemical products in 2017) and it works fine for my aging skin, but now I want to try niacinamide. So how is your skin doing now? Are you still religiously stick to the routines? 🙏
Always love your content, its really informative. I've been using Squaline facial wash, AHA/BHA and Niacinamide for 1 month now and i see difference in my skin bumps and i feel my skin is at its best if i leave moisturizing step out of my skin care routine.. Super thanks to all your vids. xoxo
Hello. First of all, I really like your channel, it helped me a lot. I just started to use the ordinary products a month ago and I learned everything about it from your videos and I trust your information. So I just purchased the rose hip seed oil and I read that is more effective if you use it twice a day, but on the prospect it sais that it should be used only at night. The question is if it is ok if I use it also in the morning, of course before spf. I like the feeling of it on my face and I use it instead of moisturizer, it doesn't break me out. Thank you so much
Hey! :) I'm happy to hear that you enjoy my videos and that they helped you to use the Ordinary products :) You can use Rosehip Seed Oil daily in the AM and/or PM. However, the Ordinary recommends using their oils mainly in the evening since they can sometimes feel a bit heavier on the skin.
Rose hip seed oil has vitamin C in it, which does not mix well with niacinamide.. it's better to use them at different times of the day- niacinamide at morning and the oil at night.. definitely not one right after the other and I would definitely recommend to wait until the niacinamide absorbs into the skin and not apply the oil Right after.
Hello. No, rosehip seeds do not contain much if any vitamin c at all, therefore it does not matter and you can use it with Niacinamide without concern. Niacinamide only takes a few seconds to absorb into the skin. If you use too much, it will sit on top. So only use 2-3 drops. You can apply them right after another.
Hi thank you for the video ! Very helpful . Please tell me if you wash your face after the niacimide and rose oil to put the moisturiser or just after them you moisturise without washing the face . Thanks 🙏
Cleanse the face Remove the water drops from the skin surface with a towel Apply Niacinamide (2-3drops). Do not rinse. wait a few seconds until niacinamide has absorbed Apply Rosehip Seed oil (3-5drops). Do not rinse. Apply Moisturizer Do not rinse. Leave everything on the skin until the next morning.

Hai lovely thank you so much your valuable vedioes.yoir english is perfect. I can understand you very well. Because my mother language is not a English❤can i use the ordinary rosehip oil and buffert together?
That's very funny because their order goes like this: The general rule of thumb for the order of application is: 1. Water-based serums 2. Anhydrous Solutions and Oil Formulations 3. Lotions & Creams & suspensions I am not sure why they told you the opposite, but they change it now and then. It may depend on the person in charge and what he/she is currently reading. 😆 This article from Paula'S choice may help you to figure it out: www.paulaschoice.com/expert-advice/skincare-advice/natural-skincare/how-facial-oils-help-skin.html I think it works best when mixing it or using the oil or the moisturizer. But try to see what works best for you :)
Do you mean in the same routine? If so yes but I highly recommend watching the following videos first: How to Create a Skincare Routine With The Ordinary Products - A Beginners Guide: ua-cam.com/video/png_aAg5B0A/v-deo.html How To Use The Ordinary Retinol: ua-cam.com/video/W-siXbrGhx0/v-deo.html
Could you make a AM&PM routine with (hyaluronic acid 2%+ B5, Ascorbic Acid 8% Alpha Arbutin, Lactic Acid 10%, Niacinamide 10%, Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion and Alpha Arbutin 2%) for me. I would love to know how to use them, please and thank you.🧡
I can help you a little bit : Hyaluronic Acid 2%+ B5 (Water-Based Serum) Ascorbic Acid 8% Alpha Arbutin (Anhydrous Solution, Pure form of Vitamin C cannot be used in the same routine as Niacinamide) Lactic Acid 10% (Water-Based Serum, Exfoliant) Niacinamide 10% (Water-Based Serum) Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion (Anhydrous Solution) Alpha Arbutin 2% (Water-Based Serum) And here is the information you need to setup your routine: The general rule of thumb for order of application is: 1. Water-based serums 2. Anhydrous Solutions and Oil Formulations 3. Lotions & Creams & suspensions Important: If you have more than one water-based serum, you can apply based on the priority of your concern (the product that targets the most important concern should go first). And it’s recommended applying eye-serums (such as Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG) first after cleansing. It’s recommended using no more than 3 serum formulations in a single routine for optimal skin penetration. About 2-3 drops of each serum and 1 pea-sized amount of creams should be enough for the full face and neck. Use a "patting" application method, as opposed to "rubbing." Always apply sunscreen when you are exposed to the sun!! Some products can have a foaming effect upon application depending on the other products you are using in your regimen. The foaming should not last longer than a few seconds and both should not remain sticky once absorbed into the skin. (Video: ua-cam.com/video/r04W7rQV1R0/v-deo.html) "Pilling" (snakeskin, shedding) can occur due to too much product. Your skin can only absorb a certain amount of product, and any excess will be left on top of the skin so that when the next product is being applied, it rubs off. (Video: ua-cam.com/video/l_C7HtO826A/v-deo.html) If you wish to incorporate multiple Vitamin C's, Retinoids, and/or Direct Acids into your skincare regimen, it's suggested using them on alternate evenings and waiting until your skin has adjusted to one before introducing another. AM Routine: - Cleanse - Caffeine Solution - Niacinamide - Azelaic Acid - SPF PM Routine: - Cleanse - Lactic Acid or Glycolic Acid - Caffeine Solution - Rose Hip Oil Please do not use Lactic Acid or Glycolic Acid in the same routine. You can alternate between the two or start with one, once that one is empty use the other one. Also, I recommend using them (the acids) 1-3 per week, see how your skin behaves and if you think that you can use it more often, slowly increase it. The general rule of thumb for order of application is: 1. Water-based serums 2. Anhydrous Solutions and Oil Formulations 3. Lotions & Creams & suspensions Important: If you have more than one water-based serum, you can apply based on the priority of your concern (the product that targets the most important concern should go first). Always apply sunscreen when you are exposed to the sun!! Please note that with any active ingredient that affects skin behaviour, there can be an initial purging period during which breakouts are normal. Gradually incorporating one new product into your regimen at a time and applying test patches first to see what works best for your skin. How often you should exfoliate depends on your skin type and skin concerns. Some people do well exfoliating with AHA or BHA twice a day, whereas others find that once a day or every other day is a perfect balance. Test to see what works best for your skin. Hope this helps😊
No, this would only be true if there were no other occlusives, mineral oils, shea butter, or silicones like dimethicone present. However, such a formulation is extremely rare; thus, 99.9% of moisturizers are applied after oils. Yours contains dimethicone, so it should be applied after the oil. However, be cautious: this combination often leads to skincare pilling.
Am: Cleanse Ninacinimide Alpha arbutin Cafeinne solution Moisturise Sun screen Pm: Cleanse Alpha arbutin Ninacinimide Retinol .2% in squalene Caffiene solution Moisturise Does this sound like a good routine Thanks
Yes! However, apply the Caffeine Solution directly after cleansing, the rest is correct😊 Also, if you are new to Retinol, you may want to introduce it slowly into your routine like: 1-2 times per week for the first 2 weeks 3-4 times per week for the next two weeks etc... The days when not using the Retinol, you can use Alpha Arbutin and Niacinamide in your PM too and when using Retinol, I recommend using Alpha Arbutin and Niacinamide only in the AM so that your skin can adjust to it😊
Great video as always! I've got a question, it may sound silly, but I'm curious if it matters. Should you eat before or after your skin care routine at night? Reason I asked this is because I know sometimes depends on what you eat, you might sweat a bit or your face might get oily. Also how many hours before bed do you carry out your skin scare routine?
There are no silly questions, only silly answers. 😆 The question is great, but I do not have the correct answer for you. I was thinking about this, as well. And because of that, I am always doing it just before I am going to bed. The reason why is, as you said, if you do it too early, you may end up with an oily face again. Generally, as long as you clean your face correctly, there should be no issues because you got rid of the dead skin cells and removed all the dirt, etc. But I haven’t read much about this yet. So I am not sure 🤷🏼♀️ I wouldn’t overthink it though 😉 It’s an interesting question. 🥰

Hiii ive always watched ur videos! i love them! i recently bought this oil and i would like to ask something: is that ok if i put Acneffe Cream after using the oil? Im from Italy so i dont know if u have heard of this cream, but i think that inside of that there is Nicotinamide, salicylic acid and Nipacide. Can i use this cream also with the Lactic Acid from The ordinary ? thank you so much! i hope u will answer this!
The thing is that it may dilute the cream. So, therefore, I am not sure about it since it can reduce strength. But they do not conflict, so they can be used together. You can also add Lactic acid, but I also use an acne treatment with Benzoyl Peroxide, Retinol etc. , and I mainly use it when not using those products. Meaning I use the products in the evening or alternate and use them on different days. You need to test it and see what works best for your skin. There is no other way around ;)
do you apply niacinamide on your face first or rosehip seed oil? i also want to add glycolic acid to my routine but i dont know if its good to use all 3 of them on my face, what should i do
Hey I have following your channel for a while now and got few ordinary products today but I am not sure about the right order to use them. I have cleanser and then hyaluronic acid, niacinamide and then 100% organic pressed cold pressed rose hip seed oil and caffeine solution, cerave moisturizing cream and a sunscreen. Could you let me know how to use for AM and PM ? Many thanks
Hi Melissa, I actually tried using Nia, Hyaluronic and Rosehip seed oil but I had some breakiuts after using it . i tried using only niacinamide and Hyaluronic because I thought I had breakouts due to Rose hip but the breakiut still occured. Now, I am only using Niacinamide which calmed my skin. Does the hyaluronic made this breakout?
Hello 🙂 No, but it may be because you need to adjust to the products. If you a new to an ingredient, your skin may get a few breakouts over the first few weeks. You cannot do much about this, just giving it a few weeks to adjust. Use it now and then and see how your skin behaves 🙂
@@MelissaVanDijkOfficial This is actually a very helpful tip. I really stoped using Hyaluronic and Rosehip because of the breakouts but I will resume using it . 😍 Thank you so much 😍
@Dana Al-Ali I eventually stopped using Hyaluronic. I don't know why but every time I use Hyaluronic my skin would start to break out I don't know why. Now, I only use Niacinamide and Rose hip seed oil. :)

Can I use ordinary ascrobic acid 12% & rose hip oil in night & ordinary niaciamind 10% at day time.??? Or Should i only niaciamind & rose hip at night.??? Which one will best for pigmentation which occurs for my previous pimples???
You can use all 3 of them in the same routine or use Ascorbyl Glucoside and Niacinamide in the AM and then use Niacinamide and Rose Hip Seed Oil in the PM.
@@natashasheikh724 No. I guess that you are using the Ordinary Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution, this is a Vitamin C derivative which can be used in the same routine than Niacinamide.

Hi love I was wondering since I bought my brand new Ordinary retinoid 2% emulsion today, how would I do this? For PM? (I have oily acne prone skin] Cleanser Toner (I use the Thayers Rose Petal Witch Hazel contains no alcohol] Ordinary Niacinamide Ordinary retinoid 2% emulsion Ordinary Moisturizer I was wondering can I use Rosehip oil after using Ordinary retinoid 2% emulsion or no? Or just use my Ordinary retinoid 2% emulsion then moisturizer?
Your routine looks good! :) Yes, you can use the oil after the Granactive Retinol in Emulsion, however, if it feels too heavy/greasy on the skin, skip either the oil or moisturiser.
It depends on the moisturizer and/or oil you are using. If you have a heavy moisturizer with mineral oils (Petrolatum), the moisturizer will be the last step. Or let's say if it contains dimethicone (silicon) or another fatty substance such as shea butter. If you have a very light moisturizer with Hyaluronic acid and no or just a bit of occlusive ingredients, it may be best to use it before. In most cases, it is moisturizer after oil.
At the moment all I’m using is a salicylic acid cleanser and a average moisturiser, but I’m unsure how to introduce these two products into my skin care routine. Should I start one week with the niacinamide then use the Rosehip seed oil, or can I start them both at the same time??
Well it's recommended to do a patch test before applying it. (ua-cam.com/video/gVZJlWLKTDM/v-deo.html) But yes you are fine to incorporate both products at the same time. Niacinamide = Water Based Serum Rosehip Seed Oil = Oil The general rule of thumb for order of application is: 1. Water-based serums 2. Anhydrous Solutions and Oil Formulations 3. Lotions & Creams & suspensions Important: If you have more than one water-based serum, you can apply based on the priority of your concern (the product that targets the most important concern should go first). Oh my dayz Thank you! I had a question please.. as shown in your video the both 2 different Oil can be and are safe to be applied together.. there's a Moisturiser Cream called 'Me + Niacinamide Hyaluronic Acid Moisturiser'.. can that be applied right after both Oils as the Moisturiser.. So to put it together.. - Face Wash - Exfoliate (Once a week) - Toner - Niacinamide Zinc Oil (Let it Absorb) - Rosehip seed Oil (Let it Absorb) - (Niacinamide Eye Cream) - Moisturiser (Mentioned above) Is that correct? I'd be much appreciated looking forward to hear from you soon Thank you..
Dear Melissa, Thank you very much for all your informative videos. I have been following you for a while and have decided to switch to the products of the ordinary. I have emailed the ordinary about a correct routine of products and which products are good for a combination skin with large pores and sebum. I receveid their mail with a routine and I have also added some myself. is this a correct regimen in your opinion? AM Squalane Cleanser Buffet Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 & after that Niacinamide & Natural Moisturising Factors + HA PM Squalane Cleanser Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA Niacinamide & then Azelaic. Last Natural moisturizing factors Thank you :)
Hey😊 Well, the steps are correct! Also, you can use the Moisturiser before or after Azelaic Acid, which depends on what you prefer, or don't use a moisturiser at all in your PM routine😊 - Azelaic Acid makes the skin super smooth😅 Just keep this in mind since you use Glycolic Acid and Azelaic Acid in the same routine: If you wish to incorporate multiple Vitamin C's, Retinoids, and/or Direct Acids into your skincare regimen, it's suggested using them on alternate evenings and waiting until your skin has adjusted to one before introducing another.
Hi this was my pm routine and just like Melissa said to not use gyolic acid and azealic in the same routine. I would use a calming toner instead of gyolic acid as eventually it broke me out as i was stripping my skin too much. Xx or take out the azealic acid. Also mandelic acid is meant to be just as good as gyolic acid but more gentle. I’m going to try that now xx
good day.. it is said that it is better not to use vitamin c with niacinamide at the same time.. is it still good to use facial oils that is a source of vitamin c such as rosehip oil and moringa oil after using 10% niacinamide and 1% zinc serum?
Yes, with the rosehip seed oil it isn't an issue. Here is an article that explains it well: oceanicaskin.care/blogs/news/big-beauty-myth-does-rosehip-oil-contain-vitamin-c
just to ask another question, what about the other skin products that contain raw ingredients that is a source of vitamin c such as the moringa leaf extract, it is still okay to use products with it after using niacinamide serum?
Hey! Yes, it's fine to use the rose hip oil for you in the morning before going to bed, in this case, it does not matter if you use it in the morning or evening since you apply it just before going to bed! Use between 1-3 drops for your face and neck. You can use it alone or pair/mix it with your moisturizer. It is usually preferred to use oils (like the rose hip oil in the PM) since they can feel a bit heavy during the day + it is rich in Vitamin A = Retinol which should usually be used it the evening to avoid sun exposure.
You can use it before or after Niacinamide. 🙂 If you want to learn more about The Ordinary you can watch the following video: The Ordinary For Beginners: ua-cam.com/video/diaLVk_EsI4/v-deo.html
Hi, can you tell me the right order for am and pm routine if i have niacinamide, alpha arbutin, azelaic acid, rose hip oil and 100% plant derived squalene? Thank you 🥰
@@MelissaVanDijkOfficial yeah i use it, the acid for my pm routine, but I wonder that the facts I read from cosmopolitan, stated that any face oil should be the last step of any of the above products, so I am a little bit confused now.
@@jajayusof8490 Yes, you have to understand that the people writing articles on Cosmopolitan do not do a lot of research; this is mainly to rank articles and sell the products that are associated. ;) I am not saying the skincare companies do not do it as well, but a few do formulate their products so therefore it is saver not to read articles that aren't related to this ;) If you have a plant oil, it's always applied before the suspension or cream moisturizer. The reason for this is that it penetrates into the skin. It also has smaller molecules that can penetrate into the skin. Therefore when you use a regular moisturizer or like the Ordinary suspensions which include the Dimethicone(silicon) or the mineral oils-. They are applied after because they have larger molecules and sit on top and "lock everything in." Hope this makes sense ;) I am not a scientist so there may be a few errors along the way, but that's the reason. 🙂
I brought the la Roche- posay Anthelios Body and Face Gentle-Lotion Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50 and Garnier skinActive Micellar cleansing water and also neutrogena oil free moisture are they safe? My skin type is oily I also order some of the ordinary product like their toner and ther azelaic acid suspension, their Mandelic acid 10% + Ha, Latic acid10%+Ha, Alphab Arubtion 2% + Ha, and the Hyaluronic acid 2% + Bh+ niacinamide.
I haven't tried that sunscreen, so I can't comment on it - it does say that it will leave a non-greasy finish which is already a good indicator! Most oily skin types don't need to use a moisturiser but if you choose to, go with something light! - You have to try it and see how it feels on the skin😊 A face wash that you use with water is always best for oily skin types😊 Yeah, so you could use it like this: AM Routine: - Cleanse - Alpha Arbutin - Niacinamide - (Optional) Moisturiser - SPF PM Routine: - Cleanse - Lactic Acid - Hyaluronic Acid - (Optional) Moisturiser or PM Routine: - Cleanse - Hyaluronic Acid - Mandelic Acid - (Optional) Moisturiser When using Lactic Acid, please do not use Mandelic Acid in the same routine, those are two acids that exfoliate the skin, so you may want to alternate between them😅
Ups...sorry! I thought that I added it into the routine! You can use Azelaic Acid in the AM after Alpha Arbutin and Niacinamide, and it can be used before or after your moisturiser or you don't need a moisturiser at all, which depends on your skin and what feels the best!😊
I used niacinmide then rose heep oil before I went to sleep, but then I woke up with bumps all over my face😭 why? And also can I use niacinamide with rose heep oil AND collagen boost from the inkey list at night ?
With any active ingredient that affects skin behaviour, there can be an initial purging period during which breakouts are normal. Gradually incorporating one new product into your regimen at a time and applying test patches first to see what works best for your skin. And yes you can use collagen boost from the Inkey list with Niacinamide and Rosehip seed oil.
Hey :) How much do you use of each serum/oil? And how do you apply it on your face? Patting it into the skin or rubbing it? This sounds like you come across pilling where you basically rub off the serum...
@@MelissaVanDijkOfficial Thank you so much for responding and I rub it in, is that the incorrect way to do it? I also noticed today that I have a horrible allergic reaction on the left side of my face I’m going to stop using all products 😔
Hey! Have you ordered any products from the Deciem website recently? If so did it take a long time to arrive? I live in Italy and currently they do ship here but it's been 10 days but still I haven't heard from them. 😢
Hm, the last product that I have ordered was the peeling solution, which was about two weeks ago. It arrived after a few days. So I am not sure. But have you contacted them?
I just recently bought the ordinary niacinamide and I'm planning on getting human nature's sunflower oil... I just want to ask if these two are compatible?
I haven't tried that combination, but in case you aren't sure, I recommend patch-testing the combination on the same spot and see if an irritation occurs before using it all over the face!😊
Oh wow I can't believe you replied 😍 thanks a lot-yes I'll do that thank you 😊 I really like your videos, not only do you explain clearly you also provide a lot of details, keep it up and thanks again ❤️

I assume, yes. But it can also happen because of the different formulations that aren't working well together. However, from my experience, it mostly occurs with water-based products when you use too much. The Ordinary Product "Pilling" Hyaluronic Acid And Niacinamide - What You Need To Know! (Snakeskin): ua-cam.com/video/l_C7HtO826A/v-deo.html
I got that question already a while back, and the article mentioned that Rosehip Seed doesn't contain Vitamin C, just the Rosehip skin. Which means that there is none or very little Vitamin C left and it does not influence it.
Melissa Van Dijk I’m not sure with my skin type but basically I observed that I’m oily and combination of dry skin, depends on the day. Right now, I’m suffering with my acne scars, post acne marks and whenever i have pimple there’s pus and i also have tiny blackheads & whiteheads on my face.
@@yvetteemano Have you ever thought about using a face wash with Salicylic Acid and LHA like the La Roche Posay Effaclar Micro Peeling Gel Cleanser or a leave-on BHA exfoliant like the one from Paula's Choice or the Ordinary Mandelic Acid? For dark marks, I recommend having a look at Alpha Arbutin😊
Happy to help 😀

This is the exact combination I was trying to know more about, I have been using the niacinamide serum for almost 2 years now, it has transformed my acne and hyperpigmentation, but I wanted to introduce retinol in my routine to help with scarring. Rosehip oil ig is the perfect starter as it has small amount of tretinoin. I hope it works for me! This video has encouraged me so much. All the best!

Thank you so much
Hey! :)
I'm happy to hear that you enjoy my videos and that they helped you to use the Ordinary products :) You can use Rosehip Seed Oil daily in the AM and/or PM. However, the Ordinary recommends using their oils mainly in the evening since they can sometimes feel a bit heavier on the skin.
Just what I wanted to know 😊 thank u 🙏
😍 another great video 💜️
Thank you! 🤗
@@MelissaVanDijkOfficial 😄❤️
I love rosehip oil!!! I use it for my hands

step3: azelaic acid suspension 10%
step4: sunscreen
PM
step1: marine hyaluronics
step2: niacinamide 10% + zinc 1%
step3: natural moisturizing factors
step4: rosehip seed oil
is this the correct order? :) thank you!
That's very funny because their order goes like this:
The general rule of thumb for the order of application is:
1. Water-based serums
2. Anhydrous Solutions and Oil Formulations
3. Lotions & Creams & suspensions
I am not sure why they told you the opposite, but they change it now and then. It may depend on the person in charge and what he/she is currently reading. 😆
This article from Paula'S choice may help you to figure it out:

I think it works best when mixing it or using the oil or the moisturizer. But try to see what works best for you :)

Do you mean in the same routine? If so yes but I highly recommend watching the following videos first:

Could you make a AM&PM routine with (hyaluronic acid 2%+ B5, Ascorbic Acid 8% Alpha Arbutin, Lactic Acid 10%, Niacinamide 10%, Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion and Alpha Arbutin 2%) for me. I would love to know how to use them, please and thank you.🧡
I watch the video: how to use latic acid, niacinamide 10% and alpha so im
assuming that, I will use that for pm..
I can help you a little bit :
Hyaluronic Acid 2%+ B5 (Water-Based Serum)
Ascorbic Acid 8% Alpha Arbutin (Anhydrous Solution, Pure form of Vitamin C cannot be used in the same routine as Niacinamide)
Lactic Acid 10% (Water-Based Serum, Exfoliant)
Niacinamide 10% (Water-Based Serum)
Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion (Anhydrous Solution)
Alpha Arbutin 2% (Water-Based Serum)
And here is the information you need to setup your routine:
The general rule of thumb for order of application is:
1. Water-based serums
2. Anhydrous Solutions and Oil Formulations
3. Lotions & Creams & suspensions
Important:
If you have more than one water-based serum, you can apply based on the priority of your concern (the product that targets the most important concern should go first).
Use a "patting" application method, as opposed to "rubbing."
Always apply sunscreen when you are exposed to the sun!!
Some products can have a foaming effect upon application depending on the other products you are using in your regimen. The foaming should not last longer than a few seconds and both should not remain sticky once absorbed into the skin. (Video: ua-cam.com/video/r04W7rQV1R0/v-deo.html)
"Pilling" (snakeskin, shedding) can occur due to too much product. Your skin can only absorb a certain amount of product, and any excess will be left on top of the skin so that when the next product is being applied, it rubs off. (Video: ua-cam.com/video/l_C7HtO826A/v-deo.html)
If you wish to incorporate multiple Vitamin C's, Retinoids, and/or Direct Acids into your skincare regimen, it's suggested using them on alternate evenings and waiting until your skin has adjusted to one before introducing another.
Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% cannot be used alongside any pure or ethylated forms of Vitamin C.
Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% can only be used alongside Vitamin C derivatives:
- Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution 12%
- Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate Solution 20% in Vitamin F
- Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate 10%

Hi! Can you make me a AM PM routine using TO products? I have Glycolic, Caffeine, Azelaic, Niacinamide, Lactic 5%, Rosehip seed oil. Thank you!
AM Routine:
- Cleanse
- Caffeine Solution
- Niacinamide
- Azelaic Acid
- SPF
PM Routine:
- Cleanse
- Lactic Acid or Glycolic Acid
- Caffeine Solution
- Rose Hip Oil
Please do not use Lactic Acid or Glycolic Acid in the same routine. You can alternate between the two or start with one, once that one is empty use the other one.
Also, I recommend using them (the acids) 1-3 per week, see how your skin behaves and if you think that you can use it more often, slowly increase it.
The general rule of thumb for order of application is:
1. Water-based serums
2. Anhydrous Solutions and Oil Formulations
3. Lotions & Creams & suspensions
Important:
If you have more than one water-based serum, you can apply based on the priority of your concern (the product that targets the most important concern should go first). And it’s recommended applying eye-serums (such as Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG) first after cleansing.

About 2-3 drops of each serum and 1 pea-sized amount of creams should be enough for the full face and neck.
Use a "patting" application method, as opposed to "rubbing."
Always apply sunscreen when you are exposed to the sun!!
I heard that you need to apply oils after mosturizer. I use neutrogena hydroboost water gel moisturizer. Should i use it after the oil then?
No, this would only be true if there were no other occlusives, mineral oils, shea butter, or silicones like dimethicone present. However, such a formulation is extremely rare; thus, 99.9% of moisturizers are applied after oils. Yours contains dimethicone, so it should be applied after the oil. However, be cautious: this combination often leads to skincare pilling.
Am:
Cleanse
Ninacinimide
Alpha arbutin
Cafeinne solution
Moisturise
Sun screen
Pm:
Cleanse
Alpha arbutin
Ninacinimide
Retinol .2% in squalene
Caffiene solution
Moisturise
Does this sound like a good routine
Thanks
Yes! However, apply the Caffeine Solution directly after cleansing, the rest is correct😊
Also, if you are new to Retinol, you may want to introduce it slowly into your routine like:
1-2 times per week for the first 2 weeks
3-4 times per week for the next two weeks
etc...
The days when not using the Retinol, you can use Alpha Arbutin and Niacinamide in your PM too and when using Retinol, I recommend using Alpha Arbutin and Niacinamide only in the AM so that your skin can adjust to it😊
@@MelissaVanDijkOfficial ok thank you

Hey :)
Yes, that's fine :)
The question is great, but I do not have the correct answer for you.
So I am not sure 🤷🏼♀️ I wouldn’t overthink it though 😉
It’s an interesting question. 🥰

The oil come after the moisturizer that what i know and do, it’s wrong?
It depends on the moisturizer and/or oil you are using. If you have a heavy moisturizer with mineral oils (Petrolatum), the moisturizer will be the last step. Or let's say if it contains dimethicone (silicon) or another fatty substance such as shea butter. If you have a very light moisturizer with Hyaluronic acid and no or just a bit of occlusive ingredients, it may be best to use it before. In most cases, it is moisturizer after oil.

Does the glycolic acid solution mix well with the rose hip seed oil?
What do you mean by "mix" ? You can use The Rosehip Seed oil after the Glycolic Acid yes that's fine :)
can i use any other kind of oil with niacinamide ?
yes, you can.
- Face Wash
- Exfoliate (Once a week)
- Toner
- Niacinamide Zinc Oil (Let it Absorb)
- Rosehip seed Oil (Let it Absorb)
- (Niacinamide Eye Cream)
- Moisturiser (Mentioned above)
Is that correct? I'd be much appreciated looking forward to hear from you soon Thank you..
Yes, that is correct, but I doubt you really need to do this, as your routine should already contain everything your skin needs.
@@MelissaVanDijkOfficial Should I take out something or its fine to go along what do you suggest? Thank you..
@@nazakatali8990 You can try it like this, but if it feels too heavy, leave out the moisturizer.
@@MelissaVanDijkOfficial You sure Melissa, wouldn't we be needing the Moisturiser for the evening routine?
@@nazakatali8990 no, but what you could do is alternate with the oil :)
Hi Melissa.. Can I use this both rosehip seed oil and niacinamide for bedtime?
Yes you can!
@@MelissaVanDijkOfficial Thank you 😘
Dear Melissa,
Thank you very much for all your informative videos. I have been following you for a while and have decided to switch to the products of the ordinary. I have emailed the ordinary about a correct routine of products and which products are good for a combination skin with large pores and sebum. I receveid their mail with a routine and I have also added some myself. is this a correct regimen in your opinion?
AM
Squalane Cleanser
Buffet
Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 & after that Niacinamide &
Natural Moisturising Factors + HA
PM
Squalane Cleanser
Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution
Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA
Niacinamide
& then Azelaic. Last Natural moisturizing factors
Thank you :)
Hey😊
Well, the steps are correct!
Also, you can use the Moisturiser before or after Azelaic Acid, which depends on what you prefer, or don't use a moisturiser at all in your PM routine😊 - Azelaic Acid makes the skin super smooth😅
Just keep this in mind since you use Glycolic Acid and Azelaic Acid in the same routine:
If you wish to incorporate multiple Vitamin C's, Retinoids, and/or Direct Acids into your skincare regimen, it's suggested using them on alternate evenings and waiting until your skin has adjusted to one before introducing another.
Melissa Van Dijk thank you very much for your quick response!
@@ti5782 Thank you very much Tikia! sorry for my late response just saw it now
good day.. it is said that it is better not to use vitamin c with niacinamide at the same time.. is it still good to use facial oils that is a source of vitamin c such as rosehip oil and moringa oil after using 10% niacinamide and 1% zinc serum?
Yes, with the rosehip seed oil it isn't an issue. Here is an article that explains it well:
oceanicaskin.care/blogs/news/big-beauty-myth-does-rosehip-oil-contain-vitamin-c
@@MelissaVanDijkOfficial Thank you for the response. Have a good day.
just to ask another question, what about the other skin products that contain raw ingredients that is a source of vitamin c such as the moringa leaf extract, it is still okay to use products with it after using niacinamide serum?
@@josesilvano1216 Yes, that's fine.
Sorry I forgot to ask U if it is okey to incorporate rose hip oil with Glycolic toning solution?😊
Yes, it is :)
Hello, if I work night shift, is it still preferable to use rosehip oil at night or should I use it at morning when I got home and sleep?
At night. 2 drops max!
Hi, I just wanna know if I wanna also add hyaluranic acid into this routine, when should I use it
You can use it before or after Niacinamide. 🙂

Hi! Can I use the rose hip oil for broken capillaries? I saw online that it helps regenerate broken skin but I'm still not sure.
Not sure if it helps, but you can use it yes. :) I mean just try it, it won't make it worse.
@@MelissaVanDijkOfficial Ok! Thank so much!!
Hi, can you tell me the right order for am and pm routine if i have niacinamide, alpha arbutin, azelaic acid, rose hip oil and 100% plant derived squalene? Thank you 🥰
Hello :)
Do you use The Ordinary Azelaic Acid Suspension? If so it's applied as a last step, since it has the largest molecules :)
@@MelissaVanDijkOfficial yeah i use it, the acid for my pm routine, but I wonder that the facts I read from cosmopolitan, stated that any face oil should be the last step of any of the above products, so I am a little bit confused now.
@@jajayusof8490 Yes, you have to understand that the people writing articles on Cosmopolitan do not do a lot of research; this is mainly to rank articles and sell the products that are associated. ;) I am not saying the skincare companies do not do it as well, but a few do formulate their products so therefore it is saver not to read articles that aren't related to this ;)
If you have a plant oil, it's always applied before the suspension or cream moisturizer. The reason for this is that it penetrates into the skin. It also has smaller molecules that can penetrate into the skin. Therefore when you use a regular moisturizer or like the Ordinary suspensions which include the Dimethicone(silicon) or the mineral oils-. They are applied after because they have larger molecules and sit on top and "lock everything in."
Hope this makes sense ;) I am not a scientist so there may be a few errors along the way, but that's the reason. 🙂
@@MelissaVanDijkOfficial I see, and you make it clear now. Thanks for the explanation, it does help me a lot. Thank you! Appreciate it!
Could I use lactic acid in this routine
Yes, use Lactic Acid before Niacinamide! :)
Has the ordinary produced the rosehip oil differently? I see some articles saying rosehip oil and niacinamide don’t mix
Can you please share those articles?🤔
I brought the la Roche- posay Anthelios Body and Face Gentle-Lotion Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50 and Garnier skinActive Micellar cleansing water and also neutrogena oil free moisture are they safe? My skin type is oily
I also order some of the ordinary product like their toner and ther azelaic acid suspension, their Mandelic acid 10% + Ha, Latic acid10%+Ha, Alphab Arubtion 2% + Ha, and the Hyaluronic acid 2% + Bh+ niacinamide.
I haven't tried that sunscreen, so I can't comment on it - it does say that it will leave a non-greasy finish which is already a good indicator!
Most oily skin types don't need to use a moisturiser but if you choose to, go with something light! - You have to try it and see how it feels on the skin😊
A face wash that you use with water is always best for oily skin types😊
Yeah, so you could use it like this:
AM Routine:
- Cleanse
- Alpha Arbutin
- Niacinamide
- (Optional) Moisturiser
- SPF
PM Routine:
- Cleanse
- Lactic Acid
- Hyaluronic Acid
- (Optional) Moisturiser
or
PM Routine:
- Cleanse
- Hyaluronic Acid
- Mandelic Acid
- (Optional) Moisturiser
When using Lactic Acid, please do not use Mandelic Acid in the same routine, those are two acids that exfoliate the skin, so you may want to alternate between them😅
Melissa Van Dijk thankyou so much you didn’t say anything about azelaic acid is it bad?💜🥺.
Ups...sorry! I thought that I added it into the routine!
You can use Azelaic Acid in the AM after Alpha Arbutin and Niacinamide, and it can be used before or after your moisturiser or you don't need a moisturiser at all, which depends on your skin and what feels the best!😊
Melissa Van Dijk thankyou

I used niacinmide then rose heep oil before I went to sleep, but then I woke up with bumps all over my face😭 why? And also can I use niacinamide with rose heep oil AND collagen boost from the inkey list at night ?
With any active ingredient that affects skin behaviour, there can be an initial purging period during which breakouts are normal.
Gradually incorporating one new product into your regimen at a time and applying test patches first to see what works best for your skin.
And yes you can use collagen boost from the Inkey list with Niacinamide and Rosehip seed oil.

Niacinamide
Rosehip seed oil

I assume, yes. But it can also happen because of the different formulations that aren't working well together. However, from my experience, it mostly occurs with water-based products when you use too much.
