    Larry buddy, one video a week is plenty. I don't know any other individual guys (much less ones dealing with a medical condition) regularly putting out videos three times of week that are of any quality. Do what you need to do to generate revenue, but know that your longtime fans and patreons understand and appreciate what you do.

    If you've never ate shark fin, it doesnt really have a 'flavor'. The fin is cartilage, like what your ear is made out of, it tastes of nothing. Whatever the soup tastes like is whatever the broth is made of as the fin will take on the flavor and seasoning of whatever broth it is served in.
    "Velvetly soft tasteless soup" Yes WolfPit, that is exactly how I would describe authentic shark fin soup. It's a cultural dish, people in the far east wat it as a sign of good fortune or tradition. The means by which it's harvested is barberic and a dishonor to our very humanity.
    As someone who has tasted the forbidden soup, it's not worth the price or the cost to the planet, oh no no no.

    1:33 Fukahire = Japanese for "shark fin"
    2:30 "Watermelon" = kansui, baking soda+water. It is what makes ramen yellow.
    2:50 Google seems to have translated "base" as "torture". I don't know why.
    3:43 The oil says that it is LUXURIOUS seasoning oil, and to add it after the ramen is done but before eating.
    5:41 Yellow: Egg Black: wood ear Red: Kuko seeds / Goji ("eggplant seed") Green: Bok choi
    I have lived in Japan for 10+ years and I eat the big size Seafood cup noodles a couple of times a year and always think "damn that's salty", so I guess it is salty for Japanese tastes

    • @UBvtuber
      @UBvtuber Рік тому

      Yeah, we are VERY desensitized to salt over here. Its a real issue because processed food manufacturers seem to have almost a saltiness war where they keep making their food have more sodium either to preserve it or more likely to appeal to our taste, or both. The bigger issue is that sodium can affect blood pressure and high blood pressure can cause tons of damage to your organs especially your heart.

      From what I read about SMA it doesn't affect life expectancy. It does affect motor skills. Which from what I read, deteriorates over time. There is therapy but no cure. There are several different stages. He has the last stage(from what I can ascertain). Each stage is defined by age at onset. If you Google SMA there are several articles detailing the effects and treatments.

    Well... actual shark fin soup is kind of bland as well. Not bad as fish soups go, but no flavour bomb.
    Ok, now, before anyone freaks out, when I was a teen, a part of my family was quite well of. They owned a motoryacht out of Rimini, caught an adult male of an ubiquitous species of shark in the Adriatic, which the local fishmonger 'butchered' (probably not the correct term) and turned all usable parts into dishes my family then kept frozen and that's how I got to try shark fin soup.

    The little black things are actually watermelon seeds. (Now, we know why watermelon is on the raw material list.). Eggplant seeds are kinda white. We grew both in our garden when I was growing up.

    So sad so many sharks are killed a year just for their fins and then probably killed. So unhumane

    • @noneofyourbusiness4294
      @noneofyourbusiness4294 5 років тому +3

      Not even killed. They cut their fins off and throw the still living but immobile shark back into the sea, because whole sharks obviously take space, and pretty much nothing but the fins bring any money.
      In some countries those who fish for sharks are required by law to bring the entire animal, but they just don't give a shit, because the amount of money they have to pay when getting caught with just fins is nothing compared to what the "wasted" space would cost them.
      Shark fin soup is a thing that has to stop.

    Larry, you should do a series and review some kitchen gadgets that are for seemingly simple tasks (like egg crackers, pot stirrers, etc). When Barry Lewis reviews kitchen gadgets, some of them seem pointless and he mentions they may help someone with a disability, but I wonder if that's really true.

    The brown strips look like wood ear mushrooms which I love the texture of! I ordered some online once and thought it would be a small bag as they are dehydrated but I have enough to last me a lifetime! I think they might not be them as you have to soak them for more than 3 minutes to hydrate.

    I got so spoiled when I lived in Japan - I became a ramen snob and now am very picky with which I eat. I completely agree that the fire noodles are one of the best out there if you don’t have access to a real ramen restaurant. I’ve tasted real shark fin ramen before and it’s completely bland with a weird consistency. It’s a shame so many sharks are killed for what really amounts to ‘traditional medicine’ foods. Anyway great video as always. Sorry you’re not feeling well hope you get back on your schedule soon 👍🏻

    Great channel, glad I found you late as I am lucky to still have about a dozen more of your videos to watch. Informational, funny and just fun to watch. You even got me to try Spam for the first time in my life, and I am not young. It just seemed gross. However, I will not eat anything mechanically separated, and it’s sad they are adding that crap to different flavored Spam. But plain, fried, without mechanically separated crap is fine. Way off topic, but I rarely comment and figured this time I would. Do you ever review frozen seafood, such as fish sticks or fillets, not dollar tree stuff, but what you buy in an average supermarket? I would love to see you review those. For us the people! So we don’t have to! Excellent work, thank you very much!

    If you want noodle with good texture, personally I would recommend you to try Korean noodle. One of my favorite is Chajang Noodle, which you can buy at many Korean grocery store for $1-$1.50 a pack.

    I googled it. The things in the soup are eggs, gelatin, bok choy, cloud ear mushroom and Chinese wolfberry fruit (goji berries). The things you thought were eggplant seeds was probably the mushrooms. As far as I know, no one cooks with eggplant seeds. The red things were the goji berries, not watermelon.

    When I ate ramen nearly every day for lunch, I had to branch out beyond Top Ramen and Nissin to keep from getting bored. I used to buy all manner of ramen craziness at KOAMART, which apparently does not exist any longer. I'd drop $100 on there and they would send me a three foot cubed box of ramen that would last me months. Most of the time I couldn't read what it was supposed to be, so it was a bit of a mystery every night.

    Koka Chicken cup noodles with fresh sliced thin chilies, spring onion, ginger some good quality soya sauce and the real trick is to add some sliced up thin hard pepperoni or salami sliced thin to the noodles with the boiling water as you are cooking them.

    if i want to treat myself with cheap ramen, i combine two packets of Beef Maruchen Ramen, drain most of the juice after halfway cooking, then add a can of Hormel No Bean Chili to it, incorporating 3 slices of american cheese as it finishes cooking.
    the end result is a cheesy and slightly chili covered bowl of yum, the cheese adds not only flavor, but a silky texture as it sticks to the noodles after some of the chili absorbs into them.
    i encourage anyone to try this, as it is satisfying to me, and i'm stuffed after $3 worth of food is in me, which usually it takes much more than that.
