I’d say the “hood girl” aesthetic doesn’t seem fake to me-it’s just mainstream now lol. & better examples of real hood rappers would be The Ghetto Twins, La Chat, Gangsta Boo, Khia, Trina, Princess Loko. I was born & raised in Memphis & Glorilla IS MEMPHIS 38127. lol (im 38128) No faking. She’s genuine.

I don’t think Sexy is faking it tho. I think if anything she’s just trying to capitalize off of what initially made her famous and trying to replicate that initial shock raunchiness and trying to put it at the forefront. Someone made a video and idk if it was you or someone but Sexxy Redd really never thought she was going to make it to the heights she has. The industry definetly trying to milk her for all she’s worth, but I don’t necessarily believe there is an agenda…

As far as Glorilla and Sexyy Red goes, i don't think it's forced bc you can pull up videos of them pre fame, literally being the same person! As for Latto, she gives me the same vibes as saweetie! their version of "hood" be giving New New from ATL vibes. A lot of these girls try to mimic who's popping at the time instead of being themselves.

@@sauvagereb Sexyy Redd represents ST LOUIS kind of hood, which is way different from Tampa hood and Memphis hood. If you ever been in St Louis, you would see over 50 sexyy redds on one block

@757Princess their teen years were in the mid to late 2010's. Missy's last album by that point was 06 (or around that time) Nikki was literally everywhere and the only female hip hop artist most people were listening to at the time.
The difference is lyricism, older female artists knew how to say it in a tongue & cheek way where as now its "mask off"

Sexxy Red is authentically herself but she also knows that people like her so she emphasizes on it. I also do think it's diffrent regionally. Being from Alabama Sexxy Red represent a lot of girls I grew up with. Living in NYC you could make a case that Ice Spice represents that because she is a Bronx/gritty NYC girl all day. City Girls represent the Miami girl. I think fashion wise, Sexxy represent SOME of the midwest fashion like the Lou and Chi girls wear. So, fashion is regional too. Lotto is BIG COS PLAY she lacks identity and is easily swayed by the internet.
Also, there aren't a lot of real stylist out there. Being someone that has been in fashion in NYC for over 10 years, the change has been drastic from actually having a stylist to influencers styling you...Another coco for another day...

A pro I'll give the new gen is that the imagery centers more women then men. In a lot of older videos, it would be a girl being surrounded and ogled by men. Now with Meg, Glorilla and peers they tend to make it more about girls just having fun together and expressing their sexuality at the same time.
It's all relative. If the hood aesthetic is ultra sexual now, that's bc most imagery in popular media tends towards sexualization and "putting it all out there". Lil Kim, Missy Elliot and peers got away with what they could for the day they were in.

It's odd because you're almost just assuming they're "authentic" that's the issue with these videos it's just which puppet has more stings attached to it, none of these people are "real" or "authentic" just listen to independent artists instead of these celebrities you guys treat like idols or scapegoats to live out your own generational escapist fantasy of femininity that's handfed to you by hedonistic abusive executives that don't actually care about black women in the first place. Like, legitimately most of these people you look back on are "products" it's all manufactured and based on networking.

I’d say hood and sex.. and gloss up is one of them. Her image now is way different ! I seen a video recently of hers and I said “she been acting like this !?” It was so jarring . I think she should’ve stuck to the hood mom hustler aesthetic and give some sexy but not “this somebody mama !???”

It’s gettin old n tired and boxes the artist in to 1 niche audience. You gotta class it up eventually. And they wonder they’re all floppin lol. It’s not likable. It’s a turn off. Idk why Latto is on the thumbnail, she's said in multiple interviews now how she's grown.
