May Day Gala 1978

The first official May Day Bank Holiday in 1978 brought the first Chesterfield and District Trade Union Council May-Day Gala.
After a parade from the Town Hall, the Gala was held on a muddy Stand Road Park.
The parade featured local Labour MPs including Eric Varley and Dennis Skinner. Phil Tingay, the Chesterfield goalkeeper took part in a penalty competition and Fred Dinenage was present for local TV.
