What was so interesting about the Bulls bench was how they did not have anyone with very well balanced skills or talents. Nothing but extremes. They were at a very high level in what they did do well. They were like glass cannons. Kerr is a perfect example who was the best in the league at what he did. Randy Brown would build a brick shit house shooting, but he had lock down, shut down defense on any small guard. Those full court traps were lethal. He beat Shaq. That right Randy Brown was often the one who beat Shaq, because on full cort traps there was not enough time to set up deep in the post. Kukoc was offense in a bottle. If the rest of the team could compensate , or if the bench player created a horrible match up...
Dennis is a GOD of the game. His defense and rebounding is just on another level that NO ONE TODAY can even touch.

I hated Rodman when he was on the Pistons . However there are different kinds of hate, one of which is the inverse of love. I would hate to be hungry looking through the window watching people eat pizza. When Rodman would get an offensive rebound after the Bulls would make a good defensive stop, it felt treading water holding cinder blocks. I remember where I was when I found out about the trade in a magazine. I thought, "So if Pip does not pass right and MJ misses a shot, they get to try it again?
I love Rodman. I know that he's had his ups and downs, but the way he played his heart out EVERY SINGLE GAME is truly admirable. I don't care what people say about him, he was an amazing player and person. My favorite at the 4.

A: A stifling, pestering and aggressive defense.
+Corey Cavalier , you know you cannot pinned to one reason! But all reasons put together made a magical team that we loved to watch.
That Defense was soooo good and it fed the transition game of the Bulls. It was like they scored 30+ in transient most nights.
I can absolutely unequivocally say that they were the greatest defensive team ever. When Ron Harper decided to expend his energy on the defensive side of the ball, he was really tough. Obviously Jordan, pippen, and Rodman are all time greats as individual defenders, but the often overlooked detail was their IQ as team defenders. I think Stockton individually was the one player that created the most problems despite probably being on the least talented team the bulls had to play in a finals.

That team was so ahead of it's time. Positionless basketball probably started with that team. You have 3 6'6 + wing players, a 6'8 power forward who can run the floor and a center who can hit from mid range and fill in the gaps. You could also sub out longley and play small with kukoc who could do it all score rebound pass shoot from deep. So much all around talent in that starting lineup and then off the bench you just had, like Dennis said, rock solid guys who would hit shots play good team defense and didn't care about stats. That team was very talented.

You could play Rodman at center and play Kukoc at stretch 4. That would make the most sense.
kukoc, rodman, harper, jordan and pippen playing at the same time is an anomaly,. rodman is capable and strong enough to effectively guard centers/forwards from olajuwon to shaq to duncan and karl malone while also having the quickness to guard players like Jordan, Drexler,,.
Kukoc was called EUROMAGIC because he was 6'11" who can play the pointguard position, while pippen, jordan and harper, who are basically the same size, are all capable of averaging more than 20pts a game while playing Elite defense be it lockdown or help defense,.
imagine a taller, longer, more athletic and more defensive GSW with their death line up playing more in the perimeter. Thats what the Bulls are,.

He said it, Michael, Dennis, Scottie and Kukoc. Kukoc played major role in those games. Watching those playoffs back then i was feeling secure knowing Kukoc was one of the player on the court. He can pass, he can drive to the basket, he can pass and he can clutch aside from Jordan and Kerr. For whatever it's worth, i'm glad he played in NBA, so the world knows his name. Not that European league was bas or anything but in most countries (i live in Indonesia) the only foreign basketball they air was NBA and that's usually during playoffs which i had to watch during my school class cause it's broadcasted live during the day :D

They wouldn't have to chase them around all night, because the Bulls had enough length, speed, quickness and agility to switch everything....you also forget that the Warriors would have to defend too......GS goes small, Bulls counter with Pippen, Jordan, Kukoc, Rodman, and Harper. They try to bring in Zsa Zsa, they counter with Luc Longley and Beuchler......they would make it very hard for them to score. And the X-Factor would be Jordan....also, I guess you don't know that the Bulls are running the Triangle, which GS runs a hybrid of.....both of which emphasizes spacing, movement, cuts, etc....

Again, I love that he drops knowledge to the guys who discovered the nba 5 years ago and who think the nba started with twitter and things like that. The Chicago Bulls were FAR FROM BEING AMONG THE MOST TALENTED TEAM IN THE 90'S. Just look at their roster and look at the teams they faced. It was really a team work + Michael Jordan's magic who CARRIED THOSE TEAMS. So, refreshing to hear a Rodman say it publicly. Thank you Dennis Rodman. And I do know how much Jordan respects Rodman, his intensity, his athleticism, his hardwork...I was a fan too...
I'm not sure what team would be more talented. Forget two of the NBA's top 50 players of all time. Rodman (HOF), Tukoc, Longley, Kerr, Harper, and Bison Dele (RIP). 6 guys that would start for most other teams in the 90's Plus the amazing Jud Buechler, who was adept at a timely steal and a dagger tree pointer.

Don't forget the year after, they went 69-12. That bulls team only lost 42 games in three years!! That's 42 out of 246 regular season games. They won 204 of those 246 regular season games and, 3 championships.

That's what I always said when I listen to some dumb kids today who say Jordan "rested" then came back. I always say " you guys are the most dumb/brainwashed" kids that I have ever seen. Let Kobe "rest" for 3 years and then come back at 40 and see how he does. Jordan did so many things that seem completely inhuman but to me, his first come back is THE GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT that I've ever seen in ANY SPORTS. The guy was already the BEST/GREATEST player of all time when he retired in 93. HE HAD ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO GAIN AND EVERYTHING TO LOSE BY COMING BACK. from a more in depth technical stand point jordan has always been far and ahead of all these stars people hype up so much nowadays. 93 being his first year of decline in athleticism he has already mastered the game in every aspect, let alone how athletic he still was even when he is on a slight decline. but the efficiency he has developed over the years as a scorer was already there and that's why he made it look so effortless. and it takes tremendous intelligence/talent and work ethic to get there. none of these young stars has ever had a more spectacular 10+ straight years of being a dominant players on both end like the way jordan did it and these young dumbfucks are blaming to lack of talents back then hahaha. i gave up defending that on youtube long ago knowing that the dumbest are the loudest but it is their loss to not be able to appreciate how amazing jordan was as a bball player.
the fact that he was able to establish oncourt harmony with dennis rodman is another thing that people don't get,. nobody wanted dennis during those years and in fact he was traded for a back up center and a late round draft pick.. look at dennis' career after chuck daly left the pistons,.nobody can handle his antics on and off the court,... dennis' career would have ended like AI's if jordan didn't get along with him like david robinson did,. But lets not forget that pippen lead a mediocre team to 55 wins and a bad call from having chance to go back to finals, and then jordan comes back and ad rodman, my point being, it is easier to come back to team that nearly got there without you.

Calm down Fev, Jordan did not destroyed the Knicks. The Knicks took the Bulls to 7 and 6 games during the first Bulls run. The reason the Knicks took the Rockets to 7 games is because the Knicks had Ewing to counter Olajuwon. Against Cartwright and Longley, Olajuwon would've gone off for 50-60 points easily.
Fev, you clearly do not understand how the Rockets played. Those guards and small forwards fed off of Olajuwon. If the opponent double team Olajuwon, he throws the ball back out to one of his many snipers. Cassell, Smith, Horry, Elie, and maybe Maxwell were superb shooters. Then the Rockets got Drexler a year later and the duo of Olajuwon and Drexler could easily match Jordan and Pippen.

The difference between Pop and Phil is that Pop requires certain personalities in his team, while Phil just needed talented guys of any sort and he could generally get them to play together. Pop was successful because he got the guys he wanted, they were talented, and they stayed healthy and out of trouble basically forever. Swap Pop for someone like Rick Carlisle and his terrible luck with the Pistons and Pacers and you'd swap their legacies too.
People used to say when comparing Phil to Red that Phil was luckier to have better teams. I think it's more indicative that he built at least three, arguably four, different team chemistries (91-93, 96-98, 00-02, 09-10) into champs, while Red had a single franchise with many of the same players in a decade long run of dominance, led by Bill Russell. Pop, with his North Star Tim Duncan, is more comparable to Red in that respect, he had more of the luck of being in the right place at the right time. It's harder to say that about Phil; he had great players, but no advantage of continuity.

@Ulysses432, after the Toni game, Scottie grew a lot from the experience because Cartwright had a heart-to-heart conversation with him in the locker room. Scottie reflected and no longer let his ego get the best of him. He became zen-like on the floor and like Todd said, loyal and humble.
The team including Pippen took on Jordan mentality, hard work, toughness and confidence. Once they all got big contracts and without Jordan pushing them, they never met expectations. Pippen was just horrible

i feel like every team needs a Dennis Rodman type player because of the type of defense he brings to the table and the way he can get into so many opponents head to throw them of their game.
Rodman is underrated all time. He was a key member and defensive and rebounding anchor for 5 title teams. This was with the Bad Boys and the late 90s Bulls both arguably top 5 teams ever.
He is a top 3 rebounder and top 5 defender of all time.

If Jordan wasnt retire back in 1993,the Bulls could have won 2 more rings,8 consecutive.And the guy came out of retirement to play for the Wizards.One of the low seeded teams back in 2001.Imagine if instead of Wizards he joined Lakers.Easily 3 or 4 more rings.

His team mates loved and respected him, and he gave it all, game after game. It was a beauty watching him play those 3 seasons, specialiy after what he went through with SA.

Harper is very over looked and underrated as not only a defender but a player. He gave up a lot to win on that team.
With that said, I can't see any era of Basketball any set of rules that teams could beat them.
Jordan, Pippen, Rodman. All 3 could give you DPOY quality defense. Jordan may be the best off ball or help defender I have ever seen. The amount of passes he swiped by reading other teams ball movement or knowing where the ball needed to go if ball handler was in trouble. Not mentioning the amount of blocks MJ would get coming to help particularly on big men.
Here is the biggest difference also. All 3 of them could guard multiple positions. Ppl always think oh Chicago had shitty centers so playing Shaq each get 15 mins or so and 5 fouls.
Well Jordan and Pippen could split time on a dominate scorer. Dennis could slide down a give a small forward fits and just have KUKOC play the 4 spot. So that also gives you wiggle room to split time, fouls, energy on guys that keep opponents rolling. If fouls weren't an issue MJ might switch with Harper and back end of games to put pressure on a certain guy etc. That team was a matchup night mare.

So is Randy Brown who was a defensive specialist. His full court traps on small guards were suffocating. Rodman directly contained Shaq, but i would have to say indirectly so did he because Shaq could not even get the ball and Brown was a big part of it, as one really good example.

Seems like the dynamic he is trying to describe to us when he talks about them not speaking off the court is about having a mutual respect and professionalism for what they are doing which is wining games, meanwhile each of them had to deal with his own feelings of probably at the same time feeling like i'm the best but also i'm not the best and it would have been a %$^%load of pressure for someone in their position. so whatever they had to do to play their best game possible ,they did.

Don't ever lose sight how good and key Scottie Pippen was, he was only 2nd to Jordan in the NBA. And remember, Rodman on most nights gave the best team ever another 10 to 15 extra shots a game with his offensive and defensive rebounding. You will never beat them giving them that.

Barkley was a freak of nature. Naturally gifted; strong and jumped out of gym the gym. Imagine if he took his career seriously early on with proper diet, off season workouts, etc.
