There is something about the hyperboom dynamics that sounded so pristine and top end. It certainly wasnt what I considered the loudest or most all out powerful mids driven speaker either. But it sounded whole, spacious, dynamic and rich.
I seem to use volume lower than what most these videos suggest is "average" so I'm not really in a race for loudest. The features and styling applied to the hyperboom are nice (like the tower designs). Only thing I miss is the LED light shows like my Sony XB. I have had plenty of nights I appreciated the pretty lights.
I just can't get over the hyperboom. While my 5 piece stereo from 2000 has held up incredibly well...there is something sleek about getting all this quality and listening enjoyment from a wireless, handle portable 13 pound speaker (opposed to turning on a TV, firing up a ps4, having to control through a receiver unit etc). When I consider the whole package and all it brings, I am in love with the hyperboom. Will have to see how it is 6 months later when the honeymoon period is well over. I suspect I will still highly appreciate it.

So I have two ue hyperboom and two jbl boombox 2s and have been testing both on stereo mode paired together to determine which pair is going back and I'm torn. The hyperbooms are airy and dynamic and respond to eq really well. They spread the sound across the room very well for what they are, but the JBLs are bass horns. The deep bass you get out of the boombox 2s do not even compare to hyperboom. The hyperbooms have increased 120ishhz response so everything has a "boom" to it, but the JBLs have a deep droning sound. For hip hop and chill beats the jbl sounds amazing, for all around music the hyperboom sounds a little better since the jbl bass is so overpowering, but hyperboom definitely has poor low/mid treble. Guitars sound like they are way off in the distance. I am not a huge fan of the directional sound you get out of the jbl once hearing how hyperboom spreads, but don't want to give up that low bass with the jbl. Both are great and do something better than the other

    • @fijianz1

Agree.. I have both but that low base on my jbl partybox 100 just takes my breath away. That bass shakes you with that low deep frequency

Which one did you end up keeping? The annoying thing to me with my BB2's is how the bass maxes out at about 70% volume and anything higher only raises the highs and mids, which takes away the good quality sound that is impressive up to 70%. So it's like having a speaker that can't be used to it's full volume.

I bought both of these speakers to test them in person. I was very disappointed in the Boombox. The sound was exactly how this gentleman explained it. The hyperbooms bass is incredible and sounds more natural. I have more JBL products than a lot of people and I have never had any issues with them. I guess that’s why I was so disappointed. My expectations were set too high. Anyhow, I’d 200% recommend the UE Hyperboom

  • @Snifshifter
    @Snifshifter 3 роки тому +8

One thing i didn't hear mentioned and is worth mentioning is the Boombox has an IPX7 waterproof rating and the UE Hyperboom has a IPX4, which means the Boombox2 is can be fully submerged up to about a 1m while the UE Hyperboom resists splashes from all directions, both good but boombox2 outperforms there, this is one aspect that should be kept in mind for purchasing.

I’d like to add that a major selling point of the Hyperboom for me was it’s use as a speaker for my tv as well as being portable. I also preferred the form factor over the boom box 2 to have sitting in my home. The Hyperboom looks so sleek and modern.

The Jbl is a boombox whose form factor is clearly better for lugging around outside. The Hyperboom is literally a rectangular box with a handle that is not suited for life outdoors. This is a huge factor for me, and with the sound quality very close, makes it an easy choice: Boombox 2 ftw.

I have boombox 2 for about 9 months now. After watching all the comparisons decided to buy Hyperboom.
30 minutes of indoor tests was enough to understand - in sound quality department the boombox 2 is way ahead hyperboom. BB2 shakes the floor in my room with the deep bass + clear mids and highs, whereas HB sounds like a plastic box with a lot of mid bass. You can’t fix this even with an EQ.
I also tested frequency response from 30 to 60 Herz - BB2 is a clear winner. The bass on 45 herz is much louder and more pronounced on BB2.
So if the main purpose of the speaker is indoor usage, with the volume not exceeding 80%, I strongly recommend BB2. I didn’t test the HB outdoor or with 100% volume, this is not the way I usually use my speakers.
Hyperboom goes back to the seller.

I’m not a JBL fanboy in any way, but I absolutely hate it when idiots neglect the facts. @@seppie8191 you know what they say about opinions, and that is yours. No doubt they are both great speakers but the HYPERBOOM is an objectively better sounding speaker, has a full EQ, has a higher SPL, and the HYPERBOOM will not quieten itself because it’s on battery. Also the HYPERBOOM in normal mode is a dynamic EQ based on room acoustics, that being what the mic on the top is used for. So opinion or not, the facts are the UE speaker is better. Simple as that.

@@jaywhite15_AL Check out oluvs gadgets. Most of thess features are a lie or do not function the way they should. + All of these gimmicks do not matter as long as its basic frequency response is worse. Yes it will sound better at max volume but I don't buy a speaker for maximum volume. The JBL's frequency response is more high-end at normal levels up to 80-85%. The Hyperboom is better in the treble region though, but the biggest difference is bass extension. The Hyperboom plays nothing under 60 Hz while the JBL has its peak at 45 and will fie off at 40. This results in a way more mature and deeper bass response.

      @jaywhite15_AL 2 роки тому

@@seppie8191 I don't buy a mobile speaker this size to be able to produce a certain bass level, which you claim is down to 40Hz, which I doubt. I buy it for volume, usage, and loudness. That is my usage scenario. If you're not using your speaker only up to 80-85% then you're not using what you paid for. I compare the Hyperboom to the Z2300/5500 with a class D toroidal amplifier. They gave what they said they would deliver and without distortion at any volume. We can argue and go back and forth, but the simple jist of the subject of which is the best speaker... on paper and in real life, it's the Hyperboom. I guess distortion is just a thing that you guys deal with on a product that expensive, or that the speaker doesn't get as loud as it can without being plugged in (WHAT IS THAT). Either way, I'm done debating it, so you have your opinion and I have mine.

Plus, the BB2 doesn't distort at all at any volume level and when plugged in it doesn't make a noticeable difference. See, it's supposed to be 20W stronger on paper, but actually it's just marketing. And lastly, if it's pure loudness you want, buy a Soundboks or something, not a simple bluetooth speaker like the Hyperboom or the BB2. + You're talking about opinions, but at the same time you're saying that the Hyperboom is an objectively better sounding speaker?!

As someone who owns both of these? Go build your own. You can spend half the money and get a way lower frequency, better battery life, sound quality, and can customize it to your listening preference. After dealing with the frustrations of companies only excelling in one or two things with their speakers, and failing in others finally just learned to build one.
Harman kardon: deepest bass hands down.
Jbl: punchy mid bass, better low end sound quality, terrible high sound quality.
UE: punchy mid bass, terrible lows, great high sound quality
After wanting a speaker with all of these qualities finally have my own the size of the jbl boombox, but it plays down to 33hz. Plays at 112DB, full audio customization. Plus any new drivers come out and can easily swap.
Also the battery life is 9 hours at 100% volume. Not 60% not 40%, 100%.
Plus if I wanted more I could easily make it last for 20hours, just the speaker would weigh more.
Did it take a load of time to learn? Yes, holy shit yes. However I don't need to buy a new $400-$600 speaker when the boombox 3 or hyperboom 2 comes out. Just 30$-80$ for whatever drivers come out.

The highs on the jbl xtreme/boombox series of speakers are too ear piercingly fatiguing. Makes you sound obnoxious if you’re using one of those at a party. The Hyperboom does not have as much high frequency extension and has the highs rolled off a bit so you sacrifice some detail in the high end, but it makes it much more pleasant to listen to for long periods of time and is not obnoxiously annoying. People don’t have to yell over screaming tweeters to talk to each other at a party.
The JBL partybox series has much better tweeters than the xtreme/boombox series. Detail and extension are there but not nearly as fatiguing.

I have a Big Blue Party X speaker and i love it, but i wanted to get a second portable speaker. I wanted to get the JBL boombox 2, so i went to best buy and decided I wanted to test the volume on all the speakers they had on hand...the JBL boombox2, JBL 100, JBL 300, sony xb60 and Sony xb90, and other LG speakers. I was looking for something better than my big blue party x, I wanted something as loud or louder, good bass and full sound, but most important "portable" something I could take anywhere without using much space. I was really disappointed at the boombox 2. My 3 year old big blue party speaker sounds the same or even better no lie. My wife spotted the hyperboom and asked me about it, I never heard of it so I gave it a try and oh boy, both me and my wife looked at each other and realized this is the one we wanted. Of course is not as loud as the JBL 300 but its way smaller, has an overall fuller sound, bass is way better than the jbl boombox 2 and definitely louder too, but most important..it is smaller than the JBL 100 and 300, it can fit in my book bag and its discrete.

Like sound, I had intention of going in Best Buy and buy jbl boom box 2, but it didn’t happen, hyperboom outperformed it on sound quality, cleaner sounding and lots of bass, and it fits naturally anywhere in the house with its natural color scheme, and plenty of sound for the outside

Boy do I disagree with you when you say it the Boombox 2 puts an emphasis on the mids and highs at the expense of bass. I don't have the 2 but have a pair of the original boomboxes. The bass is intense and you don't notice the mids and highs like you mention. I've listened to several comparisons between the original boombox and the 2, and I can't really tell a difference. Also, several other you tube videos comparing the Hyperboom and the Boombox 2 highly favored the boombox. Plus the boombox is so easily taken with you and is totally waterproof. The original boomboxes can probably be had for around $300 now and I definitely wouldn't pay the extra for the 2. Waiting for the Boombox 3 to come out in a month to see how it stacks up.

After doing a test with these two in a quieter corner of a Best Buy, plus buying to try the Extreme 3, I can agree with most / all your comments and how the Hyperboom sounds and how the two JBL products noted emphasize the mids and highs and after some time, can be a wee bit too much ear piercing highs (becomes irritating). It’s sad that they both only support SBC; neither support aptX or ALAC as I’m someone who has downloaded music at a higher bit rate and later plan download or subscribe to sources with higher bit depth. I know I’ll return the Extreme 3 (sounds great, though lacks the bass to warm & thump things up and those highs get irritating to me after a while (have an old HKardon Go Play 2 and looking to upgrade it (has warm deep bass). I think I’ll wait for the BBox 3 (now IP67) about to arrive any day now in stores as of this writing and hear any improvements or wait until a more waterproof (hope) Hyperboom is announced and arrives in stores. Maybe either will support higher resolution codec bit rates as well. Well executed review, thank you.

To all the people who came here with a question "What speaker should I get? Boombox or Hyperboom?" :
Man I've been thinking between those speakers since March 2021. Now is June, and I finally bought Hyperboom. Here is my advice:
Go with the hyperboom. It's amazing. The app from UE is wonderful, works without lags. You can change anything you want, turn the speaker on and off from the app directly, switch between bluetooth devices in seconds. It will take 20 seconds for you to open up the app, turn the speaker on, connect to it, and start jamming. Only 20 seconds.
This beast charges to 100% in 3 hours. And the bass is wall shaking.
    F***ing amazing.
Definitely worth all the money. It's really both a home speaker and a party machine. I never put it higher than 70% at home because it becomes ovewhelmingly loud and bassy.
I'm one of those people who tries to find lags in every possible system or app - by pressing all the buttons and going through all possible settings. So far, I've found zero
The only only minus - absence of USB-C port. But it's manageable.
    Just go with it man!
To UE engineers - I f***ing love you guys. You rock

Still! to this day 5-21-2022, I was at a flea market in Florida where The JBL Boombox 2 and the HYPERBOOM both were there. I demonstrated by playing Pink Floyd's "Us and Them." AGAIN! the JBL Boombox 2 out performed the Deep Deep bass that the HYPERBOOM could not produce. HYPERBOOM can produce a lot of bass but with a boomy bass where the Boombox 2 can go to lower bass frequencies. If I want a warm, natural sound, you can get that from much cheaper less quality speakers. I paid for Agressive Attacking variable frequency sound. JBL Boombox 2 is well worth it! Along with deeper bass, I want to hear crispy crashing symbols and pronunciations where you can even hear an artist sniffle in a recording. You must try Elite, In Studio musician artists like Sting, Pink Floyd or Steely Dan. JBL Boombox 2 is hands down "The Winner" there. Hip Hop R&B or Club Music generally sounds good even comparible in most speakers.

I see a speaker getting a drop in quality unless plugged in while a hyperboom runs its top performance plugged in or not. I want a speaker that runs the same plugged in and portable. I don't want a portable device with a notable edge when in non portable mode. Sounds like a negative really if I had to choose.
