We may have made treaties in the mid 40's to trade with them in return for technology that is kept hidden from the public.
I was honored to have lived when Carl Sagan spoke of the dream of the voyager probes. That to live an entire life exploring space on the tales of voyager is an accomplishment of a legacy. To think that once the voyagers go silent that there is a possible means that an alien civilization could actually find it and the record it holds. Means we can still hear from the voyager probes even if they go silent.
Suppose it encounters someone or something we’d rather not want contacted?
