  • I got this old SA 200 from a retired Alberta welder for 200$. After researching these welders I have decided to make this thing awesome. I have a Chrome alternator on Order and plan on doing something to make this beast shine... Let me know in the comments any ideas to get this beast into tip top shape...

    My only advice with a barn find welder or one with a unknown history is to remove the main armature cover (belly band) and remove any debris that could get would up. Do this prior to cranking the engine.

    Add toolboxes for grinders, vises, gloves, helmets, torch box also. Space to carry pipe or scrap metal.
    Wrap your extension cords. That's how I have mine.

    one of the first things I add to every trailer, welder or not, is 12v LED lights so I can see at night. I use pipe to make a base and just another smaller size to fit in it so that the light can turn, they swivel on their own supplied base that I attache to the pipe stand.
    having lights at night is imperative. the ones I use also double for another pass-time, fishing. its a big thing on the Gulf Coast to fish at night under lights from docks, bridges, piers, etc. The LED lights work fantastic and dont use much juice at all, this means you can run 100's of feet of extension cords to light them up.

    I have two that I'm working on. Thanks for sharing your video. Would love to see any progress. That trailer looks to be a great starting point for something cool. I'm going to check out the channel link you recommended. Aloha!

    I like the rustelouem Hammerite green & black paint cover dinks and gouges on the trailer I think I used the small block Chevy axles mine has a heavy duty. Square tube and because most of my trailers still run 8-145 mobile home wheels due to a fact I have a connection with a trailer I have new tires on all and get them mounted $10 I good my brother has a 8 lug 3/4 ton Tim's with wide tire as he off road use

    nice find. Trailer (IMHO) needs a work bench and vice. Check out my 1962 redface, blue dial.

    Hey nice video Where did you get a new chrome alternator,? I just found a 1983 Lincoln SAB200 from the original owner. So I’m going to refurbish my welder

      I went to an alternator repair store. He said it’s a really common alternator and ordered it for me

    Maybe a clean primer paint job and new faceplate, straight pipe muffler.

      I have mine apart but supposedly you can hook it up to another dc welder and it will recharge the magnets or somthing

    Don't know much about these welders and electrical. Ok so if a newer welder has ac and dc it can power more equipment right?

    • @CJs_DIY
      @CJs_DIY  3 роки тому +1

      Newer welders are usually an AC generator that converts to DC for welding. These welders are a DC generator. DC is generally better for stick welding. AC is used in Tig welders so yes AC/DC welders are pretty sweet. Also AC/DC rocks better...✊🤟

    Just how much can you power up? Can you just power a grinder?

    • @CJs_DIY
      @CJs_DIY  3 роки тому +1

      It’s dc power so I’m not running anything on it other than a grinder
