Eating BRITISH Fast Food for 24 Hours
Вставка
- Опубліковано 14 жов 2023
- We are spending the next 24 hours, trying British fast food we've never tried before, from chains like Pret a Manger that we've never been to, to trying items viewers have suggested at Greggs, to finding unusual items we don't see in the US at chains like McDonald's and Taco Bell.

Greggs for me is just 2 large warm sausage rolls a jam doughnut and a can of coke👍
Shropshire if you want to visit both the birthplace of industry and the world's first iron bridge (Ironbridge near Telford) and also the hometown of Charles Darwin (Shrewsbury) with a beautiful mediaeval town and lots of independent eateries.
Let me know if you're ever down this way and I can give you tips and suggestions 😊
Nando’s is good if you haven’t been and sayers is like Greggs but a cheaper verison
The First Clip is in Arnold which is a town about 3-4 miles from Nottingham City Centre.
But where is the McDonalds?
Where both those clips really filmed on the same day?
For the best fish n chips go to Whitby north Yorkshire. For the best curry experience go to Bradford or Oldham. For the best Chinese food go to Manchester Chinatown because it's cheaper and better than London. Go to Edinburgh or Glasgow for haggis, neeps and potato, or deep fried pizza, haggis or chocolate bars, just inform your cardiologist first. 😅. Go to Cardiff or Swansea or Pembrokeshire in Wales for the famous " crawl" a lamb stew, especially good in autumn or winter and bara birth cake or Welsh cakes with tea.
Finally an Ulster fry for breakfast in northern Ireland. Soda bread, white pudding and a pint of Guinness at 8am 😮. Great stuff😂. Too much to do but this list is a small start to seeking good UK 4 nation's foods perhaps 🎉🎉🎉
I used to help out on a ‘soup run’ (we would go out in the evening and serve hot soup and tea/coffee and sandwiches to homeless people). Pret always gave us the packaged food they had left over each day, so we could offer those to the homeless too, so Pret has a big thumbs up from me.
Marks and Spencer did the same thing for a homeless shelter I worked at in Shrewsbury.
Pret are the only consistent providers to the homeless in my area as well, credit to them
Do pret still do this now they are on too good to go? I've always wondered
they treat their workers like absolute shite tho, my mate lasted a week and a half before quitting
You haven’t tasted their sandwiches 😂
GREGGS do bacon/sausage/ egg baps or baguette for breakfast. Should try that next time. They aren't on display, they make them custom to order
Came to the comments to say just this. 👍
Honestly. Their sausages should be tested by trading standards, no way they should be for human consumption. i wouldn’t feed them to a stray hungry dog.
True, the sausages are absolutely awful. The bacon one is however very good with the scrambles.
Barms we call them.
Bacon barm in Manchester
@@chundanauk
What are scrambles?
Scrambled egg?
I've never heard of scrambles before.🥴
The problem with Pret nowadays it that the prices are outrageous, completely ridiculous. Those almond croissants you show on the counter used to be £1.50 three years ago, and suddenly rocketed to £1.65 pre-covid. Now, as you see, they are £2.50 - and, I think, smaller than they used to be. Stick with Greggs, or M&S take-away.
Tasting British fast food, and loading up with half-a-dozen items from McDonald's and only one from Pret. You can take the Americans out of America, but......😅
Tbf they did do greggs 😂😂
@@TheTwoFingeredBulldogGreggs is on a par with McDonald’s…..dog poo! 💩
@@TheTwoFingeredBulldog But they also did Taco Bell.
@@pabmusic1British taco bell. That sells actual food
Pret's taste is not processed enough for an american to enjoy xD
To be fair, Taco Bell in the US uses all rehydrated food or meat in a bag. I know because I worked there. In the UK, most of the food is fresher. I didn't eat Taco Bell there, but McDonalds was amazing in England and Venice.
Never tried taco bell on looks it doesn't look my thing
I actually found mcdonalds fresher in Paris
Top tip - Chicken Selects are £4.09 for 3 (on their own). Instead, order two of the crispy version of the wrap of the day, with no salad, sauce or wrap. They’re made with two chicken selects each. This way, you end up with 4 chicken selects for £3.98, instead of 3 for £4.09.
😂 I feel like going through that process would cost me more than 11p of my time. I guess if this is something you eat regularly then it could add up but honestly, who could be bothered 😬
@@Hollyferris it’s a faff, but the smallest faff in the universe. It takes like four seconds to untick four boxes on the app or the order screen. You get monopoly stickers too.
This made me laugh so much -- all to save 11p. I personally wouldn't trust the staff to understand my order -- accidentally giving me a wrap, for example -- whereas it'd be a lot harder to accidentally mess up a box of chicken selects.
@@Hollyferrisyou forgot the extra select though. defiantly worth it 😛
I'd pay the 11p for you just so you didn't do this. Jesus Christ.
When I was a kid the only fast food was fish and chips
I left the UK in 1965,I was 21,lived in the US since, and the fast food in Britain is a revelation to me,as you said fast food was fish, and chips,I remember a frankfurter cart in downtown Birmingham, they didn’t call them hot dogs then,I didn’t like them, still don’t. Never had a hamburger before I moved to New Jersey, and how I loved them, still do,also BLT sandwiches,I had lettuce sandwiches, tomato sandwiches, and bacon sandwiches, but never all 3 together on toast with mayonnaise, loved those too, still do.😊😊😊
Yes me also, and it was a very very occasional treat.
Chips and gravy was all I got😮
Back in the 1960s I was paid 2/6d per wedding to sing in the church choir. During the summer it was typically 3 weddings every saturday. So I'd earn about 7/6d. I'd usually treat myself to some fish and chips out of my earning but around 1965 a chinese takeaway opened directly opposite the church. So I'd usually spend a few bob in there every week. I was hooked.
In about 1968 I rode my push bike into London to visit my sister. Unfortunately she was out but one of her neighbours took pitty on me and took me in to wait for her to return home. This neighbour then took us down to a KFC and treated me to some KFC, fries and rumbaba. I was blown away as it was so different to anything I'd ever had before. I eventually had to give up on my sister so rode home without seeing her but it was such a memorable day that I'll never forget my first KFC.
The 60s was a time of many changes. Fast food was just one of them.
Knew you where in Nottingham when I saw the tram tracks next to the Pret!
I’m so impressed how you take Carley with you to England, you can take your dog in most British pubs. ❤
So weird seeing a video in Nottingham 😂 glad you kinda enjoyed what you got but definitely try the breakfast from greggs next time
Defos Nottingham. Annie's burger shack is always amazing near lace market.
Yep! Definitely Nottingham!
We used to have plastic McFlurry spoons until they started reducing plastic recently, the same with the straws. They feel horrible 😂
And they have now found that they are worse for the environment than the plastic ones.
AND those plastic spoons used to clip into a device used to stir all the toppings into the ice cream (hence "flurry"), but for some inexplicable reason they stopped doing that YEARS ago, and the McFlurry has always been really disappointing since then. That's why they had the lids they did; to stop the contents going everywhere when it was being "flurried".
nah those new spoons feel so much nicer than the old plastic ones with the comically large handles that became square at the top for some reason... I didn't even realise they weren't plastic at first that's how good they are. I just thought they upgraded the shape.
The straws on the other hand are extremely awful. that's true.
Why couldn't they at least use wood? Also, there is a proposed ban on single use plastic cutlery
@@Thurgosh_OG this is misleading. People just read an article and then jumped on it. A single group of scientists, in Belgium, so a big thing to remember is that science is about continually testing. They found that some brands of green cutlery are more likely to have FPAs than plastic, yet they don’t state the brands they tested, which is a basic in testing to show what is the standard. Already you can see by that that plastics do have them, it’s a company choice, again, we don’t know which of these brands they used to study. So a plastic one with FPAs will never break down at all, will just stay as it is, product and the acids, Paper ones, the product will break down and the acids will remain. Both are providing the same, the plastic is just leaving a physical item behind as well. The study was flawed and we have no reason to believe that a plastic company wasn’t behind that study that proved nothing but that plastics was worse and that the standard person won’t understand a medical study and the requirements for an accurate one.
Outside of big cities most vegan or vegetarian options at McDonald's are cooked fresh when you order them as they do not sell as many and therefore don't cook a whole batch in expectation of selling them. It means you wait a bit longer but it's well worth it to get a fresh cooked burger
Nottingham, filming in fron topf the "Arnold Methodist Church" was a giveaway for any GeoGuesser player!!!
Problem with Pret is you have to call your bank for a loan to buy lunch, way too expensive for what it is.
You got to ask for the breakfast items at Greggs they are not on display things like sausage, bacon, eggs, porridge, toast. It's served daily until 11am.
They only very recently changed the McFluffy spoons at MxDonalds (which were the same as the US). They’ve done it to get rid of single use plastics. The new spoons are paper.
Even tho the plastic might be bad for the enviroment but eating McFlurry with the paper spoon kinda ruins the experience for men the old school packaging is nostalgic 😆
I have never been McDonalds in ages here how the hell does one eat Ice Cream with a freaking paper spoon especially since it is hard and chunky unless it is super soft and creamy and starting to melt
@@zahidshabir4038 to be fair, it’s quite thick card. It more than lasts the required 5 mins to eat the McFlurry.
@@moglom93 No one's stopping you taking your own plastic spoon
We used to get those mcflurry spoons, with the sort of square top that fixed on the machine. They swapped over fairly recently as part of the "green" thing, along with replacing the straws with paper ones that disolve before you can finish your drink.
When I was young I always tried to use that square top of the mcflurry spoon as a straw but never could because I was dumb and it was not a straw. Anyone else?
Why have you put green in quotes?
@@jakesdiner Because "green" initiatives usually arent even helpful and are just done so the government can pretend they are doing something and get more money out of people in the process.
@@jakesdinerprobably because you can’t actually recycle the straws as they are too small and get stuck in the recycling machine. Whereas I’m guessing you could maybe melt down the plastic ones and recycle them but not sure.
Nice to see you visiting Nottingham :)
The centre of the universe 🎉
Love your content, your channel is among a few that have inspired my content 🙏
Greggs bacon and sausage breakfast roll (bun/bap/cob) and a coffee for about £3👍
I don’t understand why everybody rates Greggs. I have had stuff from them over the years travelling the motorways and I have found it consistently disappointing.
Mind you the same goes goes for most of the places you visited - I admire your fortitude!!!!
Even the late Bill Hicks commented on how the Brits have chips/fries with everything! Some places you even get them with an all day breakfast.
I think "spicy" things here, with the exceptions of currys, tend to be designed to still taste good and a lot of "spicy" things i've tried in other places often focus more on the "wow that's hot" type of reaction and put the flavour second. The big exception to that would be a Phall at a proper curry place, that's basically made for all those people who can't ever get anything spicy enough.
Yeah, I can not stand eating something when the pain I’m in just completely overrides the taste. Always unnecessary useless in a curry. Saying that even with a curry I still want to have a functional tongue left after I’ve eaten one.
Yes, that was funny. I don't think of the Yanks eating hot food. Do they even have curry?
Great video guys 😊
The McDonald's in the UK have recently changed their McFlurry cups and changed from plastic spoons as you described to cardboard. Going green...
I just found your channel and i already think you two are amazing and genuinely sweet ppl ❤️
For a short amount of time in the 80s I lived in Eastern Europe in a city that had only one western fast food restaurant. And yes, it was your small town place Dairy Queen. My local english-speaking host had been there a few times and was very excited to show off their local "Diary Queen" restaurant. And that's right - not many people at all spoke English, so my guide had informed everybody he knew that the restaurant was called Diary Queen rather than Dairy Queen ... I can only imagine what the brand managers would have thought.
The meatball wrap in pret is really good, and the choc bar (tiffin) which they always have in front on the counter. Their soups are good too, I used to get them regularly when I worked in a shopping centre as they were a great affordable hot lunch option.
Next to my go to pub after work, Six Barrels. Hope you enjoyed Nottingham
We certainly do have refried beans in the UK. It was quite a few years ago we went to a Mexican style chain restaurant and my wife ordered refried beans (we both like them). The waitress said something like "Are you sure, they have a specific taste?" We thought it was weird to question a customer's order in such a way.
Because the probably had a lot of geezers complaining that they weren’t Heinz beans out of a can
You're underestimating how many apes in the UK don't think about what they're ordering before they order it.
Like all the people who send rare or medium rare steaks back because the meat is pink.
@@testicool013 yes because that's all we eat.
Ranch is finally starting to appear in the UK and that makes me very happy.
Have you tried the Klaus Schwab burger, full of tasty crickets, maggots and mealworms?...Hopefully this remains tongue-in-cheek.
No way I was nursing a hangover at that exact mcdonalds on the first of the month lol while voulnteering a nearby event. Small world. Was sat enjoying the video only for the penny to drop. Glad you enjoyed it though! Notthingham is lovely once you find a place to park.
If the coffee tastes burnt, you should always take it back and ask them to make a fresh one. Barista style coffee should always be made to a high standard.
Our McFlurry used to have the spoons you are talking about. They fit through a plastic dome lid on the McFlurry.
But they changed recently along with the plastic straw as an attempt to cut back on plastic.
Quite often signing up to these outlets before hand you can end up with discounts or freebies too
Great idea for a video! I'm going to have to make a Greggs order...
Glad you finally did the steak bake. Greggs breakfasts are most renowned for breakfast baguettes and coffee for cheap, it used to be 3 quid, think its now 3.50 or something. They also do baps but i had one once when they were out of baguettes and I didnt find them as good
I mostly like pret for the drinks, especially when Im staying in London during the hot season and have alot of salty bacon for breakfast
I love the Almond croissants at Pret. They're soooo yummy 🤤
Rocking the White Whale hunter look Jeremy.
For breakfast, you got to try either a sausage baguette with brown sauce or a bacon baguette with ketchup a baguette with any hot drink under a fiver
Bacon and sausage , brown sauce (for me) on a bun with a coffee. Quintessential Greggs
Pret a manger is really very good. The range and quality of their products is matchless ❤
In Pret, the Swedish Meatball wrap is really good. Its warm with Pork meat balls with cheese.
Oh wow you were in Arnold, Nottingham... I lived there until a few years ago. Weird seeing you guys in the same places I've been daily lol
The McDonald's and taco bell you are sat outside is next to the Victoria centre. The large clock tower was part of the old Victoria railway station from 1901. Nice to see you in my home town
British McFlurrys used to come the same, in a cup with the spoon that fit on the machine and mixed the toppings into ice cream. They changed to toppings on the top and normal spoons maybe 5 years back
Drinking game for what tastes “pretty good” 😂❤
As soon as i saw the mcdonalds outside seating at 12 seconds in i knew you were in Nottingham! Having moved far away to a different country now, and it being my hometown this video was nice to watch for you guys and to see my hometown!
You're in Nottingham, my home town 😍😍
If you're still in Nottingham and like pizza, may I recommend Pizzamasu, near to the Contemporary museum. I went there on Saturday for the first time and it was really great .
happy to see you guys like Greggs! welcome to the UK ! :)
We definitely do refried beans in the UK. I have them all the time when I make things at home. Not sure I’ve ever seen them at Taco Bell though.
In Liverpool taco bell we have refriedbean options as it's a alternative to meat
Greggs cheese and onion bake is really flavoursome considering the price.
But the prices keep going up at greggs
I had a bad experience with one of those. The bottom of the bake was like...I guess, milk. Can't eat the damn things anymore as it makes me want to puke. Shame as I loved those! I'm wretching now even thinking about it!
Aww used to be my fave untill they changed the filling now it reminds me of sick so i just get sausage roll now can never go wrong with a greggs sausage roll
You should try the sausage, cheese and bean melt from Pound Bakery. Best £1.60 I spent all year
I don’t eat much at fast food places in the UK. But IMO, Burger King is far superior to McDonalds. I love their veggie whopper.
Way more expensive but definitely a better burger than MacDonalds for sure
The only thing Mukky d's has that comes close to a whopper is the Big Tasty which is pretty damned good and I don't understand why they keep removing it for other "promotions".
BK (or HJ) Whopper is still superior though.
Couldn't agree more.
Whopper Good.
Plus it's real food here in the UK, made from, like, ordinary ingredients that you would use yourself.
Not that you can buy the pickles.
_Why can't I buy BK/McD pickles world?! WHY?!_
@@ronnieharford3326 not anymore. A special burger from each is now tenner a meal. McDonald’s have gotten ridiculous. Big tasty with bacon meal was 9.69. A big Burger King meal is 8.99 and they have more offers. Burger King is actually typically cheaper and higher standard. Every now and then I plan a mcds order and then go literally anywhere else. Even the breakfast, £6 a meal. Assuming you’ve not been for a while. It’s not even pretending to be cheaper anymore.
Yay lovely to see you in Notts again! We did used to have a Wimpy until fairly recently when it was demolished along with the Broadmarsh Centre that housed it. I believe it was one of the few left in the Uk. Next time you’re in Nottingham come to Sherwood and I’ll take you for some food and a beer x
Take them to the coffee shops and bakeries up Mansfield road on the way to daybrook just before sherwood manor.
Hi guys. You can get refried beans in Chipotle in the UK. My local taco bell isn't been great on a few times recently.
the mcflurrrys here used to have the plastic spoon thing up until fairly recently. the got rid of them at a similar time they banned plastic straws. I miss them lol
Hi I can see you are in Nottingham outside the Victoria Shopping Centre 😃😃😃. Hope you had a great time!
You can get retried beans at the Mexican places including Wahaca, Benito's Hat, Chipotle, Iguana and other places and stalls that do burritos.
The spoons for McFlurry used to be like that here but they switched away from single use plastic. Pret soups are very good as are their own brand fizzy drinks
Same with the container.
Need to see more Carly (assuming that's how you spell it) and her reactions to everything because she's great :D
i love Greggs sausage and bean melt - it's my personal favorite but i guess it's like marmite - it a love it or hate it choice
cara reminds me of my elementry school counselor!
Some Prets sell filter (drip in US} coffee.
Also I recommend the Gregg's breakfast coffee and bacon roll offer.
Have you tried doner or shish kebab in a pita bread from a Turkish restaurant.
Great to see more Americans in my hometown of Nottingham. Hope you enjoyed your visit ❤
I'm guessing the McFlurry spoon malarky is because of trying to reduce single use plastics?
You won’t get the original McFlurry spoon now as single use plastic is now banned in the uk ( as of 2 weeks ago ) hence now using wooden utensils which are more environmentally friendly apparently 🤔
really trippy to see this like 2 minutes from my uni dorm LOL
The PRET Mac and cheese 😋 I was obsessed a few years ago. I even had the Mac and cheese toastie! No, I don’t feel ashamed. It was surprisingly good.
You guys are adorable! Instantly subscribed! You really cant beat a cheese an onion pasty from Greggs and their bacon rolls are lovely too! I hate that in the UK we dont have good sauces at McDonalds and if we do get them they only do them for a limited time. They brought out a garlic dip a few months ago....it was amazing. Then they just stopped doing it 🙄
My Greggs favourites are jammy hearts
and sausage rolls are amazing!!
Had they run out of the breakfast stuff behind the counter? That’s quite upsetting! Nothing beats their bacon and sausage baguettes!! Also - next time you’re near London or Surrey, you have to try Wenzels bakery… think of it as Greggs but for people who know how to wear shoes.
Our McFlurry spoons used to have the hole in them that the air blew through to mix up the topping and ice cream but I think we've cut down on the use of single use plastics a lot in the last few years. Our tubs used to be like the ones you described as well.
No, the spoon was ment to fix on a device on the ice cream machine and turn arround to mix it. But it was a waste of time and sometimes it made a big mess . I know I didn't mix them when I worked there
It was a sad day when McD UK stopped making big breakfasts but I think they’re still available in the US.
Ah, nostalgia! My Saturday morning treat was to read a couple of the (free) newspapers at my local McD's whilst chomping down on a Big Breakfast, washed down with as many coffees as my nervous system could tolerate :)
They were vile 😂😂 - I miss the breakfast bagels
It was a sadder day when Tesco Cafes closed along with their Magnificent 7 Breakfasts.
No big breakfast in my area of the US at McDonalds
No big breakfasts is a crime.
But I console myself with double sausage and egg mcmuffins meals with an extra hash brown and coffee and orange juice.
fries part of british tradition all though we say chips
McDonald's used to be good years ago here in the UK. Just about everytime I go there the food is cold, been sitting for ages and limp. The double sausage n egg mcmuffins are good, never disappoint. Love a Greggs sausage roll too.
They were undercooked raw or cold here for so so many years now they started making them hot and fresh again
I cant stand the muffins breakfast n I can't stand the eggs n bacon either
I always enjoyed the roll with just cheese and sausage
I also take the bacon out of the flat bread and have it with just cheese
Love hash browns when it's cooked in fresh oily n not soaking in it
Omg yes, why is mcds always cold nowadays! Every time. I’ve given up going now cos every time it’s cold and I swear they’ve also cut back on how much sauce they put in their burgers too? Always seem to be dry :(
I think you should go to a different branch of McDonald's! Or maybe at a different time of day. I usually have good luck with McDonald's meals.
Mc Ds too busy with the online orders and deliveries where i live than walk in customers.
All McDonald's are independant, the one you go to seems to be a bad one, try another one
Great video, we welcome you as Britain’s now!
Made the mistake of watching this around lunch time! Soooooo hungry now!
Don’t forget to try fish & chips and full English breakfast ❤
I only had the breakfast menu available at BK, but saw they had a Haloumi Whopper when I visited last year.
I used to work at Pret like 20 something years ago and it's fresh and kitchen is kept very clean through the day! Wish to have it in Sweden!!
Greggs do a variety of breakfast baguettes or baps that have bacon, egg & sausage or any combination of. They are lovely
And served as a meal deal with a hot drink.
We used to have the plastic stirrer spoons in our McFlurries but they changed them to paper spoons recently
I like the halloumi and falafel hot wrap in pret. Curry sauce is the best in McDonald’s, they do have normal ketchup in a dispenser. Good to see you in Arnold where I grew up. Haven’t been into Nottingham in such a long time, and now I want to! I like that they also do mini mcflurry!
I like Leon for rice boxes for lunch
I spotted Arnold too!!
You got a green Mcflurry, The UK is on a drive to cut out plastics, you have a pressed cardboard spoon, think green,🎉
McFlurry used to be put in small cups with plastic spoons over here, but they changed it to the cardboard ones to reduce the plastic 😊.
I was watching this and looking out for myself. Nottingham has got some really good places for food
The big flavour wrap is one of my favourite things at mcdonalds in the UK. They do a grilled chicken version which is also delicious!
Looks like Nottingham to me, great video as always guys. Also the chicken caesar baguette from Pret is one of my favourite takeout sandwiches, good choice!
Nottingham is what I thought as well...
@@MarkKnightSHG Absolutely. You can see Arnold Methodist Church in the background in the first minute of the video
Yeah, It's Nottingham: I've been along that street, and into that McDonald's, in the city centre many times.
@@jonathancauldwell9822thats what i thought! :)
Lol.. I saw the Arnold Church and thought, ooh.. where else is there an Arnold.. then saw the entrance to
Poultry behind Pret and thought: oh wow, they're actually in Nottingham!
Nottingham! Recognised it from the thumbnail. I work near the McDonald's 😊
refried beans are deffo a thing here you can get them in every supermarket.
So, wtf happened at the Taco Bell?
You're in Nottingham there! Assuming you were staying in Arnold at the start 😅
Love Pret. Can’t believe you had not been there before!
Hi great vid your in Nottingham! ❤
Just by coincidence, I encountered my first Pizza Hut Express today, 6 inch pizza, fries and refillable drink for £5.99. Found this at the Designer Outlet place just outside of York. Never seen one before, so not sure where else have them.
Hi Jeremy & Cara. Yes, we too in the UK like our food "on the go", as it were, but the choice here is to my mind, just as varied as in the US. Since Morgan (Spurlock) did that film "Supersize Me" all those years ago, glad to say that choice you have now is wider and more varied, if still calorific!! Aside from Micky D's, we now have Wendy's, Taco Belle, Dunkin' Donuts and all our other homegrown offerings as well, such as the ones you mention, and M&S do some pretty good turkey sandwiches at Xmas time. Had one only yesterday, managed to spill cranberry sauce all over my jacket, still great though!! Keep up the good work, from a new subscriber (only today, a few minutes ago, in fact. Happy Xmas. From Leslie and Marie.
Deli counters used to be common but I assume they weren't very popular since they have mostly been phased out now. The mcflurrys used to have special spoons but i noticed you have paper spoons so it looks like they were changed to reduce plastic waste. The mcflurry cups have also changed from what i remember
If you want to try Wimpy, there is one here on Brentwood high street.
