    There is a metal shaping class sale going on from now until Christmas for classes in 2021! See our website for dates and details!
    On the finale of the Porsche 550 Nose Section (Drivers Side), Wray goes over all the methods used to fit the panel properly to the wire form. He discuses how he finds the minor imperfections in the panel, and the hand tools he used to perfect the area. We then added a small compendium towards the end showing a piece of sheet metal turn into a Porsche 550 nose section.

    Wray - what a masterful job you did on that panel. I have seen you shrink in the middle of a panel before - on a Jaguar rear fender - but this was a much more complex demonstration of the principles. It's amazing that you could make a panel with that much complexity from one piece of metal without unduly thinning the material, but you pulled it off brilliantly!

    Wray, thank you so much for this video, The fast forward compilation gives an incredible perspective of what you did and how you did it to make this complex panel. You are a supreme coach builder in our era and I thank you for sharing. I can's wait to take your class!

    Hi Wray. The master giving a masterclass ! Watching how the metal reacted in high speed was spectacular! It gave the impression of working with tin foil . The compound reverse shapes are by far and away the most difficult to achieve unless you happen to have accumulated these skills over 40+ plus years. Oh ! That means you Wray ! Thanks Wray . It's a privilege to see you at work.

      I haven't made the turn signal plinth yet. I will start the right side panel this week using different methods. If I show minutia I get thumbs down for being boring or too long, can't please everybody.😁😁😁

      Wray I am a detail guy and I am here for the minutia. I really wanted to see how you formed the headlight flange. I also am very curious to see how you form the trunk opening flange. Taking these flowing curves into hard mechanical lines without losing the shape. Please don’t take shortcuts with the videos. The haters are just UA-cam terrorists, not faithful subscribers. They don’t want to know how to take off and land - just fly it into the ground for the rest of us. Maybe you can make full length videos for us and series highlight videos for them. As always, thank you for sharing your knowledge.

      @@proshaper true, you can't please everyone - but you can always speed up longer sequences. the time lapse style is actually very instructive as you get a good overview watching something take shape quickly. it reveals a lot about the process that is easily missed at normal speed. in any case, a thumbs up here.

    I always wonder the cost of these things. I know you're pretty mindful of cost when it comes to tools and materials but what does it take to make a car body or a single panel?

    • @proshaper
      @proshaper  3 роки тому

      The cost of materials/supplies and what you value your labor at. I tell my students to do a first class job scratch-building a car the cost of components( Engine, transmission, tires , wheels, etc) and supplies ( welding gases,leather, metal, etc. ) will run estimated at $30000.00 to $60000.00. Your Labor expenditure: figure 2000 to 4000 hrs. This is for scratch-building a turnkey car like a 300S Maserati, 550 Porsche, or a one off Hot Rod. Cars that cost in the millions to purchase.

    • @proshaper

      Same skill sets, steel or aluminum. This method was one method of achieving a successful panel. There are at least four different ways to make this panel.

    • @johndavey72

      Hi tj. Well if you've worked with aluminium as long as Wray has then you would say that's the easiest material. If you've worked with steel as long as l have then steel would be the answer. Either way it takes tremendous skill to master either. I would be daunted to work with alloy whereas Wray could happily work with either. The big difference is when you have mastered aluminium it gives the best results for the minimum work and it is much lighter. Hope this helps.
