I loved this. It should be a little longer with an interview. As a bike mechanic with 20 years experience I've helped restore a few bikes over the years. Looks like he had fun doing it too. Thanks.
In the sixties , a Claud butler with campagnolo gears was the bike to aim for ,, but as a school kid it was always a dream . Great video and a wonderful workshop , 🤗
Man it's my dream to have a shop like this. All the tools possible. All the old frames and spare parts labeled in boxes. All cables and different colored housings. New tires of all sizes.
I just can't get enough of this vid. Makes me want to go out to the shop and start polishing bits and throw a bike together. Perhaps in the morning. Ok, I've watched it a few more times and noticed you abandon the center pulls and opt for the side pulls in the end, good choice! : D
The frame they've used is from a 1981 Claud Butler (tube investments )majestic , which was a touring bike. I have just restored one myself. Shame they didn't use the weinman centre pulls which it would've originally had. However nice to see bikes resurrected if modified slightly.
Absolutely beautiful guys. I just love those classic old bikes, but please put an extra link or two in that chain (2:57). :p Loving the sound track too. :)
I know I'm a little late to the party but I've only just found this video, I have a Claud Butler frame that is exactly the same as this one except it is silver, i used for long distance weekend cycling, 200km Audax events etc, Ah memories ! now the frame, along with a other lesser frames, currently sits up the loft with heaps of wheels, bars, chainsets and other bicycle gear.
Good video and lovely restoration, my only question is what happened to the beautiful weinman centre pull brakes, there in the middle then gone, much more in keeping with the Claud Butlers I remember , was a real bragging point to have centre pull brakes, side pulls were for Raleigh arena's. Also I think you made the chain fractionally short as the jockey wheel looks stressed when your only on 3rd at the back even if you are on the large at the front, otherwise lovely to see.
This video is almost meditative to watch! Just wow! Also, would appreciate to know what kind of clear you applied at the end of refurbishing the frame?
Vintage derailleurs are like jewelry. Love to see the greasing and repacking of bearings. That's how it was back when mechanics actually fix stuff instead of "replacing".
Watched this so many times its got a feel good vibe going on and makes work not feel like work i love working on bikes but was careful not to do it as a living and spoil that pleasure. Would have been tempted to work there though if its like that all the time though lol.
Nice bike! But what a bloke: ordering a bike with foot cages, and coming with flip flops to get it... I have a vintage Jaques Anquetil waiting to be restored. Going to be nice.
Love it!
and i really enjoy your work too ...

Mullet, tash, shorts and scholls would complete the 70s look. But yeah... the only way to pose on a bike

Loving the sound track too. :)
I like that he used one of those riveted Shimano freewheels -- I have them on a couple of bikes, and they work well -- smooth, and nearly silent.
love it !!!
Brilliant!
What a job!
Sweet!!!
