Thanks heaps, Dan and thanks again for the route advice! 👍 I was going to go home via Old Moroka but my butt was too sore, so I’m ordering a seat concepts seat before the next trip 😂
Hey mate just jumped on you channel after you commented on mine I'm about to do a 7 day ride through the high country. thanks for sharing this one it really puts billy goats into perspective. Now i really want to dump my luggage at the bottom. 🙂
Same here mate. As you could probably tell in the video, I was quite nervous about anything going wrong whilst I was solo, especially since I'd only seen 1 vehicle that whole day and they didn't come via that track, so definitely had to make sure I didn't muck around!
31:20 I feel very anxious from the drop offs for you! amazing views. I know how much angle you dealt with there, I love your spirit on this trip in the high country! Was not many cars around as so many people I think have been warned of conditions from the rain as you said, but the track looks in reasonable condition. Don't blame you for calling it after all that, nice one and thanks for sharing.
@@AusMoto yeah worse too because when you in any wider than linear filming view it just takes any of that depth away! But without wide view its hard to share the senary and visual experience!
Thanks heaps mate, really appreciate the comment! I'm hoping to make it out there but might have something else on that I can't get out of... Either way, if you ever want to come out for a ride, reach out and I'd love to! Unfortunately not enough of my mates ride and the ones that do aren't always available, so I'll gladly tag along with like minded adventurers!
This looks like good fun. I have been considering a solo run myself for a while now but you video just just inspired me to fully commit to it. Cheers AusMoto. Afro from WA
Not sure what was more terrifying, Billy Goats or those stairs at the Pinnacles. Great video, keen to do this but not sure after seeing the track condition, I am on a big bike. I've seen some other videos where the track looks much better. Just subscribed too. Will be going back through your videos.
Both had steep drop offs haha! Thanks mate, based on what I've seen in videos, it looked much more chopped up when I was there. I love what you've done to the vstrom 650! I've got the 1000 and have been watching your videos. I reckon you could definitely go down Billy Goats, but I reckon going up in the current condition would be very tough!
Dude awesome work I’ve only solo camped once and it’s pretty full on. Epic trip though definitely one that’s on my list for this summer just gotta make the time and go for it
Wow mate that was spectacular. I reaĺy want to do this, its one place I haven't been . Amazing how quiet was if it was a long weekend it would be packed.
It sure was! Definitely head there one day 😁 Yes, I guess I was lucky/unlucky that no one was there. No one to block the track but no one to help if I run into any dramas 🤣
@@OzADVRider that looks like a tough track. I was thinking of doing a 4wd trip there at Xmas. Looking how close to the edge and how narrow some parts are makes me nervous.
Nice mate, I gotta get myself a 4x4, eyeing off some pre-2004 Hilux's (we got 3 in my family, so know the engines well). They're just so expensive at the moment!! And yeah, I'm keen to go back and give it a crack going up it! We were going to do it in our last ride but ran into issues before we got there hahaha!
Did it this January when on holidays Down Under. All the way from Switzerland just to play in the VIC High Country. I also did it solo and man it was an adventure. Next time I should find myseld some friends I guess, haha! Some stuff on that rental DR 650 was just mental ;-)
Just came across this vid and mate that was awesome to watch. I have been up Billy Goats in an old Nissan G60 Patrol and would love to tackle it on a Bike. Look forward to your trip going up! I have Subscribed for sure....
Thanks heap mate, really appreciate that and I'm glad you enjoyed! Yeah, thinking I'll give it a crack going up next month, fingers crossed I don't break the bike (or myself haha!)
Excellent video mate on thing you might not know is that they seem to maintain these tracks after some year. At the moment the blue rag seems to have been recently put in order but the Billy goat is the worse I have ever seen. I did manage to get a DR650 up the Billy goat quite a few years ago when it was smothered but I would be hard pressed to do it now. Good ride down you made it look easy
Thanks Tony! Yeah, I've heard condition of the tracks it pretty torn up at the moment, hoping to get out there again to go up it, so fingers crossed they've fixed it up a bit!
That part you walked, you were supposed to ride that WR all the way up that narrow path, do a U-turn by hopping around on the back wheel, and ride back down in a wheelie, but I guess this was OK. Seriously, though, great ride and you came home in one piece. Cool.
I didn't notice if you dropped your tyre pressures once you were on the dirt sections. I think I'd want to change the sprocket sizes on the DRZ from road oriented 15/44 back to something lower for some engine braking on that track, but then the transit speed/vibes would suck. Oh for that missing 6th gear overdrive. 😉
I only did just before descending Billy Goats. Yeah for sure, I run enduro gearing on my bike, it doesn't like it on the freeways but sure does make a difference off-road haha!
Awesome video! It motivates me to tackle the Goat on my little XT250. What tire did you have? And what tire would you recommend for this track on a small cc bike? Trial tires (MT43, Motoz Mountain Hybrid) or knobby (I currently have MT21)?
Yeah, could be but I guess riding up there from home, I would have experienced it fully loaded and at lower altitude, so then noticing a difference when I got up there was possible?
Thanks heaps mate! Haven't noticed is so far, but thinking about getting the Teknik's suspension done in the coming months. Yeah, over time planning on condensing my set-up and getting more lightweight gear. 13/48 gearing, pretty happy with it. A bit revvy on the freeway but pretty good for the tough stuff.
@@AusMoto yeah I'm running 13 48 aswell now, rode it from here in Vic, up to Birdsville, across the Simpson, round the Madigon line and back to Vic, no probs. I stayed with the standard springs and had a guyin Castlemain tighten the shock valuing, was worth it
Looks like a great trip 👍 dont know how youi dare camp overnight there with all those creepy animals around. In my country, there isnt a single dangerous creep...one very occational wolf or bear. Thats it 😃
