No one else could have played Richard Collier better than Christopher Reeve. He attended Juliard with Robin Williams. His acting range was incredible and he was such a tall man and yet such a gentle nature. You are dearly missed Christopher Reeve. The story is so innocent and beautiful. I cried the first time I saw it and still cry to this day watching it. It is such a timeless story. Truly an great story and film.
I always hated the critics for hating this movie. To me it was one of the most beautiful ever made. As a single man over the age of 70 I have watched it (alone) dozens of times. So good to know that there are others who were as taken by it as I was.
Why I never listen to critics. Loved this movie and was absolutely obsessed with it in college . . . 40 years later, I'm still in love with this movie and soundtrack.
Fantastic cast, nobody could have played this part better than Christopher Reeve, he brought something very special to this movie, Jane Seymour was amazing, what a perfect combination
Jane Seymour and Christopher Reeve were both so exquisitely beautiful in this movie, I wondered how they could be mere humans! No matter how many times I watched this movie, I always make sure I have a box of Kleenex on hand. The soundtrack alone can bring tears to my eyes.
Jane Seymour is absolutely gorgeous. Christopher Reeve was captivating. John Barry wrote an exquisite soundtrack. The Grand Hotel is majestic. The story is fascinating. What else do you need?? 😊
I am happy to say that whilst in Lockdown during the Covid19 pandemic, I first discovered this movie and I haven't felt the same since. It was such an emotional and tearful experience and it took all my troubles away. I absolutely love this movie. I'll never forget seeing this for the first time and what an impact it had on me. I love everything about it. The cast, music, the heart, all of the aspects of the production. I'm so lucky to have discovered this film and it will never leave me for as long as I live.
Mike, I'm thrilled you discovered this beautiful movie! It changes and adds to one's life whoever sees it. I first saw Somewhere in Time at the picture show in 1979 while in my 20's and has been one of my all time favorite movies since. My second favorite romantic movie after The Promise. This movie gets into your soul. I also have the CD.
This film has been one of my absolute favourites for many years. I thought it was so random and that no one else had ever heard of it until I began working with someone whom I connected with immediately. Oh my to discover it was one of her favourites too made us even closer friends. I had the sound track to this film for my wedding and couldn't have imagined anything more perfect. My favourite scene is when Richard first sees the photograph of Elise in the hotel museum and the light shines on her.
@@dianenathan7879 The beam of light also figures into two additional scenes: 1). When Richard wakes up in 1912; 2). When he takes his dying breath in the final scene as the curtains in his room are opened.
The best love story I ever watched. It makes you feel that you have lost something very precious and seek for something deep. The music is the backbone for this film. It brings out the divine of this film. Somewhere in time will always be in my mind forever.
The music by John Barry hits my heart and is so perfect for this story. I loved this movie when I saw it back in the 80’s and still love it today. Simply beautiful film.
I can’t even imagine this movie being as good, as impactful and as deeply moving with a different cast. This movie has taken my heart captive. Every aspect of this movie is brilliant.
A classic beautiful haunting love story. I fell in love with the costumes, the era and beautiful scenery. The perfect place for this movie. My condolences to the Reeves family.
The first time I saw it, when it came out, I'd never fallen in love yet. But it stirred me inside on an emotional level and I thought "THAT'S how I want to be loved." well, I did eventually fall in love, and got my heart broken, fell in love again; but it was never like that. So I guess in a sense, the movie ruined me for love, real heart love. A love that transcends time, and obstacles. Someone that loves you so much, they would do anything, go anywhere, just to be with you. Well, I accepted long ago that that sort of love wasn't in my cards. But I won't say "it only happens in the movies" because even though I never got to experience it, I've seen it. For a lucky few. But I still watch this movie, I own a copy, its one of my all time favs, and always will be.
What matters is that you are aware of those things. Therefore you are a part of the world population that thinks outside the box, which is in fact, incredible small percentage.
Well, I can think of a thousand quotes about that kind of love- mostly from songs. Jane Seymour said she'd never been in love. The problem with that kind of love is that the two people involved don't feel it in the same amount. And it don't exist in a vacume, free of outside forces. Even in "Somewhere In Time" there's a thousand things that must be accounted for- in the real world. But I've been there, and in retrospect I'm glad that I was. Cause in the end it's about you, and what worth you brought to the situation. Maybe it's the chance, those weak moments that you had that rose above that which brought you down. To be a partner in that kind of experience is not for the weak, God knows. I was there and though I lost I was given a chance. Regardless, a human can't know what the full meaning of life is without it.
I have loved this movie since I first saw it as a teenager when it premiered in theaters in 1980. I never get tired of watching this masterpiece or hearing it's beautiful soundtrack.
I used to listen to the cassette tape of the soundtrack over and over. I still have it (as well as the movie on VHS and DVD) with my other beloved relics lol. Christopher Reeve was so tall, dark, and handsome. That’s really shocking that Jane Seymour hadn’t yet been in love by that point!
This incredible film is my all-time favorite - no other film can or will compare!! Christopher Reeves and Jane Seymour are beyond our dreams in Somewhere in Time - it is hands down the phenomenal incomparable story of magic and love and so much more.. It makes me cry every time and the soundtrack changed my life, and continues to get down to the depths of my heart and pull on those strings like no ohter soundtrack...Thank you for this so much!!!
It is great to have an explanation about SOMEWHERE IN TIME by the producers and the development of the film and the great cast for this Victorian period movie.
What a beautiful, romantic, and moving masterpiece. The theme tune, and classical music running through the film, still moves me to tears, and I am a man of 76years. This is vastly underrated film that never received the recognition it deserved, and very rarely, if ever appears on British tv. This is what true love and longing is about.
They met in the past and fell in love she was 25 yrs old in 1912, when he traveled to the past just to meet her from the future around 1976 when he was around 32 yrs old. That was 64 yrs later so she must have been almost 89 yrs old when she died and gave him the watch. Since she knew his name that he was from Chicago she must have been following his life and may have even witnessed his birth in 1944 when she was around 57 yrs old. It's a beautiful love story of time travel but the same could happen if you believe in reincarnation and that you lived in the past and died and were born again in a different body. Its a mystery of life that no one ever talks about, but when you think about it how can so many millions of spirits fit in the planet when you think how old the planet is and how many people have died, all those spirits couldn't possibly fit on Earth without some type of recycling some type of reincarnation. Very interesting indeed.
@Naught Guile I know for a fact everybody has a spirit because i have seen mine a couple of times as eery and mysterious as it sounds. I have seen myself drifting from out of my body at the moment of seperation when i was falling asleep and managed to turn my head just slightly and saw my own body lying in bed, that only has happened a couple of times in my life, but a few other strange things have happened to me like late at night when i would walk home late at night and heard footsteps behind me and turned around and saw nobody, or as i walked by neighborhood on the way home at night and dogs would cawl in fear instead of barking at me that;s because they see my guardian angel a ghost next to me, the same fear my ex roommate's doberman would feel with me and my roommate would swear that i abused the dog somehow, of course i didnt i was afraid of him a doberman. And almost every woman i have had in my life sees spirits and we think they are scared easily its not that they scare easily its that they see dead people as well, if you bother to ask them not all but a good majority of them do but they wont tell you if you are going to make fun of them or think they are crazy. And children as well see them, my nieces my sisters aunts and mother all have seen my grandmother who died long ago.
So deeply emotional so beautiful in SPIRIT and unforgettable about if LOVE can transcend time and space for all eternity and i say yes in TRUTH it does it is immortal
Jane was very beautiful in Live And Let Die...so glad she made this movie, too...Christopher was my favourite actor since The Sound Of Music...the other Christopher w/c is Superman himself is a versatile actor also...perfect cast

Hello there,
How are you doing ?
I just recently discovered this movie and your words are 100% spot on . I fell in love with this movie 🥰
I always hated the critics for hating this movie. To me it was one of the most beautiful ever made. As a single man over the age of 70 I have watched it (alone) dozens of times. So good to know that there are others who were as taken by it as I was.
It's also an amazing soundtrack.
Why I never listen to critics. Loved this movie and was absolutely obsessed with it in college . . . 40 years later, I'm still in love with this movie and soundtrack.
If any more proof was required that proves the critics are irrelevant, let the public decide.
I agree 100% Like you, I too have watched multiple times. Beautiful movie... :)
Critics are in general are a cynical bunch. I sort of feel bad for them.

i was a grown man, and i cried as if i had lived this entire movie,,i still have no idea why it still affects me as it does
It somehow reaches into a part of us that we didn't know we even had - until we see the movie. Then, and only then, is there a greater awareness.
Jane Seymour is absolutely gorgeous. Christopher Reeve was captivating. John Barry wrote an exquisite soundtrack. The Grand Hotel is majestic. The story is fascinating. What else do you need?? 😊
dougconley people like us appreciating it
I'll tell you what we DON'T NEED: a remake.
@@ANFeuerstahl You're right! We do NOT NEED a remake!

Christopher Plummer should a wonderful quadruple threat.
Chris and Jane's chemistry was immeasurable .

Thank you it is my favourite movie. 💞❤️💞
