Jackie and Shadow delayed incubation for about 12 hours today (yesterday was over 18 hours). Historically, they delayed incubation more with their 3-egg clutch compared to their prior 2-egg clutches. It is a wait and see how many eggs they will lay this year.
📝Daddy Duty Report: Shadow attended the nest for: 2 h 24 min, 4 visits. ONE fish was delivered for Jackie!
Bald Eagle eggs are laid 3-5 days apart. Egg2 may come 1/25 or later.
Pip Watch date will be set once we know the clutch size and the amount of delayed incubation done. Our eggs tend to pip several days later than the standard 35 days.
ℹ️Delayed or intermittent incubation helps chicks hatch closer together and increases chances of survival for younger chicks.
ℹ️Freshly laid eggs do NOT need to be incubated right away and can be stored at cool temperatures for many days. The state of suspended development is around 50F or even lower. Same principle is true for chicken eggs. Folks are known to successfully hatch store bought (refrigerated) fertilized eggs.

I’m convinced that Jackie can see a fish in Shadow’s talons from miles away. She knows when he’s bringing home the goods lol 😂🐟🐟🐟
Me too! 😂
Me too, I love her gratitude sound❤❤❤
I’m glad Shadow moved that giant stick away from Eggie! Good fella ❤
I was worried about it breaking tge egg.
Shadow is adorable, rearranging sticks, rolling the egg and carefully protecting it. Also bringing fish for Jackie. 😊
Well yeah but the most important thing right now is to keep that egg warm and he's not doing that. He's too busy moving sticks around when that could be done while also keeping the egg warm.... I mean look at the lake the lake is iced over and I don't know which direction this cameras pointing but I'm going to say as the camera points North because it's straight ahead.
I was glad to see him finally sit on the egg because it's colder up there in that tree than it is down there on the lake. I'm just glad to see him warming it up and I hope it makes it! Sadly I don't think that he actually nested the egg long enough cuz a minute or two isn't enough. And those freezing temperatures an egg can die and under a minute.
@@the_quaint_gypsythey know what they’re doing…
The term eyes like a eagle! She can spot shadow a mile away with a fish in his talons and starts singing a song🦅🦅🦅
@jasonbroughton533 Yeah it's called Feesh Feesh Hurry up With My Feesh!
“Eagle Eyes”❤!!
It'll never cease to amaze me, watching these gorgeous and fierce creatures, with talons that can kill instantly, tip-toe around their precious eggs...nature is truly amazing ❤️🥰🦅🦅
Shadow is incredibly handsome! ❤🦅👏 Jackie is simply irresistible! 🦅❤👏💞
I love Shadow❤ he just loves sitting on their 1 egg.
The best of Daddy Eagles. 🙏🙏 it hatches this year!🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Weird
Love this. Shadow, who will normally come in hot and crash into the nest, not lands gently on the perimeter. Jackie then touches the egg as if saying "hey, you remember not to step on this?" Just so sweet and cute.
Watching Jackie and Shadow has been an absolute privilege ,the time in editing and putting together such beautiful videos that we can watch is so appreciated but i wish people would stop with the negative comments about everything...even the infra red lights ...for goodness sake just enjoy the experience and let the eagles do what they need to do. What do we know about nest building , amounts of fluff and sitting on eggs. Even the time they spend singing is criticised ...it's ridiculous 🙄
I think she was telling him that she needed to take a break and stretch her wings while she was eating. 😅 It amazes me how they communicate. Thanks so much, Cali and FOBBV, for this opportunity to watch the daily life of this pair!
My favorite cuddle couple! ❤🦅❤
Shad bringing home the 🐟
I love this stuff! ❤ Starts with Jackie making herself heard!
I saw this fish switcheroo yesterday. It's endearing that Jackie squeaks her delight while eating her lunch. Shadow is such a great helpmeet.
This Communication is incredible❣️✝️
I like how she asks, didn't demand at all, shadow just looks stoked to have another go. All is good in their world🤞. But what do I know? Cheers from Tasmania, Australia.😉😊
Hi Australia! Wow, cool
Thank you Cali for the updates Jackie and Shadow you deserve a good year❤
Love them!! 🦅🦅🥚🩷
Bravo Jackie 💞and Shadow 🦅 getting right back into parenting mode - love their early afternoon serenade to each other 🎶
He looks so proud of himself😂😂
I could swear she puts a guilt trip on him with that whining! Even after she’s eating, it’s like “you took so long I almost died!”
These two are so animated and adorable ❤
😂😂
Shadow is such wonderful provider. As humans sometimes we can learn from them😊
The question is will Jackie lay another egg tomorrow.
Makes my heart happy
Jackie is a great mom and Shadow is such a caring dad❤
Shadow hasn’t done anything to help Jackie incubate this egg, all he’s done is bring a little fluff in a few times that flew away.. I’m starting to see his true colors 😂
@@brostroyer In Eagle incubation tactics, it's the Second Egg drop that is important. Our Eagle team is just that--working as a team pair. Anything important in Incubation happens after the second egg is laid. S hasn't done much with the Egg, but he's keeping his Mate's spirits alive with numerous fish gifts( which if you have the sound on and up) and you are aware she responds to each gift with such loving and happy unique sonic tones which only she among other E pairs can do.
Shadow "not doing anything " to help Jackie means he is doing many things that your own nest observations over the years aren't able to interpret properly.. In a nest setting with an Egg in the Nest, there is more than sitting on an Egg and digging up the nest floor periodically to be said for caring for an egg @ partner incubation time chores. In the End , it's not what one does starting out , but what happens at the end of the Nest Season. J & S are in charge, Let's see what happens?
@@brostroyer And that's you been told 😂😂😂
Yes this is what a caring Dad does
Waiting for the new arrival 😂😂❤
get more fluff. fingers crossed for these 2, my first eagle nest I watched! back when they had Cookie and Simba. 😘
Both Jackie & Shadiw are my favorite love birds ... such a lovely faithful couple ♥️🦅♥️🦅♥️
Sweet partner ...Jackie is lucky to have Shadow...great couple ...now let's get on with the egg laying part..lol 🎉
Need a lot lot, lot, more FLUFF!!
This is more like it!! maybe she’ll only have one egg this year. One sweet baby bird to feed. Keeping hopes up high!
💞💞💞Shadow loves being a Daddy💞💞💞
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
How long can the egg stay uncovered without a parent sitting on it? Last year was my first of following this incredible pair. I didn’t come on till after she had 3 eggs and was being snowed over by blizzard as she was diligently keeping the eggs safe and warm.
Unfortunately known of eggs survived into egglets, so big crossed fingers this time.
Victory for the Fluffy heads 🦅🫶🦅
💓🤗🙏😊💓
Love watching, but wondering why one of the birds isn’t sitting incubating the egg.
I don’t think I have seen shadow incubating yet, he’s doing a bad job
No, they both take turn during the day.
@susanatkinson7702 They're delaying incubation till she lays the second one tomorrow or Sunday 😊
Shadow has been on the egg and isn't doing a bad job. They delaying incubation till Jackie lays her second one
@@lindaadelwerth8042you are correct and whoever said that does not know this nest and hadn’t watched this couple. He is magnificent!
I must say they do appear to be more off the egg than on. More interested in moving sticks
❤
💐❤️👍
Is it normal for Eagles to not sit on the egg so much? Hope it's ok❤❤
🤗🥰👀👍
It concerns me they're not laying on their egg.
why aren't they incubating?
It’s 31 deg F tonight in Bib Bear. The egg will freeze if not incubated!
Hello there! Please read the description below the feed for information about delayed incubation. Freshly laid eggs do not need to be warmed up right away. They can be stored in the zone of suspended development for days and even weeks. The ideal storage temperature is around 50F but can be as low as 28F. Hope this helps. 😊
Nobody is incubating. This is really strange. Delayed incubation occurs, but when it's in the 40's, high altitude, I am thinking that this egg doesn't have a chance. I hope I'm wrong. It's very odd watching the egg just sit there, in the cold, and their not interested in incubating. I WONDER IF THE FULL LIGHT FROM THE CAMERA AT NIGHT IS UPSETTING THEM.. After all, it is unnatural. Maybe the camera light should be turned off at night.
@TonyGalla-... The light doesn't bother them.
It's infrared they can't see it.
How do you know what is unnaturally in a eagle ?
Light doesn't bother them
She's saying look what we did but yet she's not sitting on the egg. It's too cold for her to not be sitting on the egg.... It won't be viable for much longer in this weather. 😢
Jan 25 and already Jackie has left the egg exposed for over an hour. The mods are acting like this is normal eagle behavior as if this is our only eagle cam in the world and we can't see how other eagles stay on their eggs except for short periods of time. They also act as though this pair are experts when sadly in the last three years they've only had one eaglet survive. Who are these mods? Such a beautiful pair of eagles but sadly all the gawkers and moderators and "fobbv" people aren't the least bit curious as to what is going on with this pair. It's almost like an episode of the twilight zone.

Delayed incubation is happening right now. These eagles know exactly what needs to be done. They will incubate full time when Jackie has finished laying the clutch. The egg is absolutely fine atm ❤
Hopefully, today, Jackie may lay her 2nd egg and keep watching 👀 😊
@@Grumpykitty2023 thank you for your informative post! I appreciate you taking time to answer.
👍
@@pmitchell6819 you are very welcome..
The answer depends many things: age of egg, weather, starting temperature etc.
