    I get to the bottom of wither magnetic primer works. This product by Rust-Oleum can be a game changer if it can deliver a paintable product that can turn a wood surface into a magnetic message board.
    While it does not create the strongest surface for a magnet, it does make a decent surface. Be sure to do a minimum of 3 coats or the primer and a maximum of two top coats. To get the best results use Rare Earth Neodymium Magnets.

    For my purpose, I think this paint will work perfectly. I’m building a slot car track with some pretty big elevation changes. I’m going to use this paint to give me better downforce in some of the more intense curves. (One of which mimics Laguna Seca’s world famous Corkscrew.)
    As it is, the roughly 3/16” rails are the only source of magnatraction in those areas and you can lose control VERY easily. My plan is to paint a 1”strip just inside & outside of the rails of my slot car track. The second coat will be 3/4” and the third will be 1/2”. I’m hoping to give a smoother, more controllable drift in those particularly tricky areas of the track.
    This review was extremely helpful, THANKS!

    Read about Vila tips article, and he suggests having the can shaken by store, to ensure even distribution of particles, or if bought online to stir with a drill and paddle paint mixer attachment the one he recommends is long but will fit in 1-5 gallon buckets has a picture to show on purchase page. Skip the wooden stirring as it probably won't do the trick. It will just be uneven with its hold, the pulverized iron will separate and settle at the bottom. You're slicing🫡

      Judy Sweat so I would say they do pretty well. Better than I had hoped after reading reviews. I did the 5 coats of magnetic primer then I did 2 coats of chalkboard paint of the same brand. I haven’t tested the chalkboard yet, but I’m a little concerned because the surface is rough from the bits of iron in the magnetic primer. However, even those cheap plastic alphabet magnets hang on the wall. They’re nowhere near as good as on the fridge, but they stay where I put them. And stronger magnets hold up papers. I’m going to get those rare earth magnets from amazon. I’ve read that they work amazingly well on magnetic paint.

    I thought that if you used magnetic primer to paint a board, you could adhere ANY METAL OBJECT to the board (which is painted with the magnetic primer).
    Why would you need a "magnet" to adhere to another "magnet"?
    I thought that was the whole point of the magnetic primer -- you could paint any board with the magnetic primer to make it a magnetic peg board.
    (I could, just, use a piece of sheet metal to make a peg board to which I could adhere any magnet!)

    • @marcoavila2426
      @marcoavila2426 4 роки тому +1

      I've been researching this product for a project. Turns out you can't grind up magnets and infuse it into paint and retain the magnetic effect. So basically all these primers are ferrous metal infused paints. Then you must use a very strong magnet to barely work. I think it would be easier to just use a large sheet metal sheet on the wall and paint over it. By the time you put on 6 layers of this stuff (with prepping, sanding and clean up) and barely get magnets to stick, it seems too much work for the poor end result.
