After watching your video, I played around with the duct tape method, but ended up substituting a stack of two fender washers (large, thin, steel washers with small holes) for the coins. If I use one with a smaller hole on the outside, and one with a larger hole, against the sole, and add an adhesive, rubber cabinet door bumper in the big hole, stuck to the one with the small hole, the stack is not compressed flat by the tape. Then I can tap dance on a rug and still get a nice snap. And a couple layers of tape, to protect the hardwood floors, does not silence them. I like cloth, gaffers tape better than duct tape. I think it lasts longer, too. Thanks for helping me think about this.
Thank you so muchhhhhh. I've always been interested in tap dance, but I haven't really tried it before, quarantine was for sure the perfect opportunity to do so.
I attempted to make these and well.... they turned out superbly! They sound like real tap shoes [even without the duct tape and see through tape!]. Thank you, these were very useful!!!
Amazing timing for me to find this vid. The best news is I can use a good pair of tennis shoes to support my old feet !! Kitchen linoleum, here I come! 😁
I put books on me floor and I start typing with coins on my shoes my mum walks and she’s like what the heck are you doing Im like nothing then I get the tape and pull it off my shoes
Thanks for the video, when I was little I had tap shoes but they don't fit me anymore, and i want to get back to it untill i decide if i want to buy tap shoes again!
"Till you get yourself a proper pair of tap shoe." I will say that the motivation for DIY shoes is for those of us that can't get tap shoes at all. I wanted to try tap dance but I'm a 16 wide US Men's shoe. I can only find tap shoes up to size 14 on Amazon and other sites. So it is just not an option for us large footed individuals to even be able to try activities that require specialized footwear. I do wish the plates were available wider too but I'll take what I can get. 😅😅
this is awesome I actually like the sound of the coins the best. I can't find tap shoes in my area and they're not really something I'd be comfortable buying without trying on so this really helped. I just finished using some industrial strength glue to add some pennies to the old shoes I've been using to learn with. :P
Love this thank you - I made coin taps with my converse & loved them so much while I waited for a pair of Capezios to come in. Now I want to glue teletones onto my converse cuz they’re a cuter shoe but I don’t know how to pick the size of teletones. Like how much smaller should they be than the front or heel or your shoe? & how close to the front row should they be? Are you supposed to be able to tap with the front of your toe straight down like 90 degree angled from the ground?
Hi. I really appreciate your video and I'm going to try some of these options before purchasing tap shoes since I might not stick with the dancing style. One question (though I know I'm years too late), is there a reason I can't just glue coins to my shoes so that they stay on longer? Actually, I'm going to answer that question for myself I guess, since I have lots of shoes (OK - I'm a shoe-aholic, I admit it) and I have gorilla glue. Thanks.
The_Wise_Tortoise hot glue isn’t very good, they do hold a bit better if you use a high heat gun instead of low heat. I usually use superglue and add a few drops of hot glue to hold it in place while it dries
+Frank Sanderson You're right Frank, glue makes a better job, but tape is quick and you can be tapping in minutes. For a permanent job I would prefer to glue taps rather than coins which are difficult to get all the right level.
cheers mate, so hard finding size 12 now I can just use your tips
+Alexander Hansez
Couldn't even find size 10 in a mans tap shoe! Hence the vid.
Thanks so much for that. I'm fantasising about learning to tap dance and they look like some good options.
You're welcome, glad you liked it, good luck with your tapping!

Sounds pretty advanced to have two layers of washers to make the snap rather than one layer of coins.
Little steel castanets.

Thanks Summer, glad it worked out.
Always been fascinated with tap dancing and this vid is definitely going to get me started thank you!
You're welcome Charles, enjoy your tapping.
I think the coin taps actually sounded the best

I have made the one with the coins, and I'm dancing away! Well, I'm not Michael Flatley, but it's fun. Thank you, Mr. Teatime. Happy Holidays!
Merry Christmas Cubby! Enjoy your tapping.
I am! I will continue to do so, Lord willing.
The first one I’m very impressed with the tap noises thank you
I put books on me floor and I start typing with coins on my shoes my mum walks and she’s like what the heck are you doing Im like nothing then I get the tape and pull it off my shoes
I love the black smart dress shoes with taps on them. I want to have those shoes to tap dance in
I really appreciate you making this video, my daughter and I are going to try it right now! Thank you
I bet you have a lot of fun, thanks for the comment.
Thanks for the video, when I was little I had tap shoes but they don't fit me anymore, and i want to get back to it untill i decide if i want to buy tap shoes again!
This was very informative and exactly what I was looking for. Thank you so much for this video!

I thought, "How are two peas gonna make your shoes tappy?"
Just slang for 2 pence coins, never thought of two peas!
Gimme those shoes, Leroy!

Is it wrong that I'm here so that I have shoes that tap? Instead of the purpose for finding tap dancing shoes?
No, I don't think it's wrong because if you find you don't like tapping then you haven't wasted any cash.
Thank you so much my competition is on Saturday and in lost a tap shoe so thx so much
What kind of shoes would you reccomend to make these? I need something extremely affordable.
Keep up the good work
Thanks this was very helpful
You're welcome A-PR.

Thanks for this, pretty helpful
Great tips :D Thank you!
Great idea about the coins - have you tried using flattened soup cans?
Very useful thank you
It helped me. Thank you!
I love this guy
When the toes of the shoes curl up, you have to put your taps further back. Those taps aren't touching the wood.
this man is clever
I'm making some !!!!!!! Now !!!!!!
Good for you Hope !!!!!!!
Has anyone tried shoo gooing the pennies on? I use washers and duct tape . I might try gluing them on old shoes
Appreciate it ! 💖
that ssoooo coool
Thanks Holly, my pleasure.
you are so nice
I'll would buy a good men's dress shoes for put on the tap plates . a good men's dress shoes for tap dancing.
Who else loves his voice
Cool
cheer up oldman!
The steps you were doing look more like clogging steps than tap steps.
I tried hot gluing coins to the bottom of my shoes but after only 10 minutes of dancing they started falling off

Thanks Amy!

I suggest glue is better it is neat mister now it all glue those coins

Can I have a pair of your tap shoes
Sure George, come and get them, ha ha.
Can u send then via mail I would like the leather obe
Why not glue the coins on??
Anonhsawenrate McGregor Well I don't see why not, maybe they would stay put but they have less area to stick than with the taps so they may come off.
or you could just buy a pair...
Spoken like an only child Sophie!
..that cost a fortune..
