Here in the SF bay area,cold tolerance is very important and Manila and Ataulfo,Baileys Marvel,Glenn are what we have fruiting. Picked ripe from the tree they are all far better than market Mangoes even if they don't win every taste test vs those more tropical varieties. Ataulfo though is sooo good....
Wow that simply incredible i would love to live on your farm its like a fruit paradise visually seeing the various fruits ripen & the lushness of the growing blushing trees then the aroma of the flowers & of course the immense anticipation of eating some of these delicious fruit. my grandpa gave me my first slice of mango, I remember it tasting of hawaiian punch and I instantly fell in love with mangos... I don't think I've had one as good since though with the store bought varieties. I'm sure he picked it up at a small asian grocery store but I'll never know what it was unless I happen to taste it again. Taste memory... would love to rediscover that mango again.
Hi! I'm writing from Hyderabad, India and I chuckled when I read your comment. Considering the size of commercial grafted hybrid mango trees are much shorter, this one is "huge"; but I have a mango tree in my backyard that's about 60 feet! It grew from a seed my mother planted around 1998. It took over 5-6 years to start fruiting. My parents had no idea that grafted trees had many advantages. I can't harvest 15% of my mangoes because they're too difficult to reach and we end up collecting partially eaten sweet mangoes when squirrels, bats and other birds have their fill. I wash them thoroughly and eat what ever I can salvage. My regret in life is that I won't be able to taste the majority of the world mango varieties. There's nothing better than a tree-ripened mango!
from a kid till now my favourite mango is calibash mango I plant a seed and got a big tree now I don't buy or ask for mangos anyway my heart is fill just eating my own calibash mangos I got a Julie also but it get too soft when ripe calibash remain hard

Actually, according to Google, there are over 1500 types of mangoes. And to complicate matters, they're known by different names depending on the country. The two most prized varieties in Barbados (where I live) are called Julie and Pere Louis (or "pawi" as we say here). I have a Pere Louis tree and it bears like crazy during some years.
We occasionally get US mangoes in Australia when they are out of season here, never tasted a good one though. There is a reason why top grade Australian mangoes sell for ridiculous prices in Japan.

I’ve always heard, generally speaking that Nam Doc Mai and Alphonso are supposed to be some of the tastiest mango’s in existence if these 5 are even better man I’ve got some mango’s to try! In the last 12 months I’ve acquired myself a few different species, Kensington pride, king Thai, Nam Doc Mai and sensation! So very excited to try all of them but will be atleast 18-24 months before they’re remotely considered big enough to fruit. None the less, very exciting! Love mango’s
alphonso from india that too from ratnagiri and the best from ratnagiri is procured from devgad. They are best of the best of the best sir. The taste depends on the soil climate water . i tried growing it in a different state in india doesn't taste the same. if you ever get hands on devgad alphonsos grab them and enjoy.

While Arumanis/'Sweet and Fragrant' is pride of Java island, very sweet and smooth with green peel and light yellow inside. The Gedong Gincu variety had the strongest frangrant that smells like perfume, probably had it's international name but we Indonesians called it Gedong Gincu. While Coconut variety tastes average but the shape is unique because it looks exactly like green coconut and almost as huge as coconut that could weigh up to 5 pound.

My Rosigold tastes great and is a prolific producer. It has a very interest trait, it is a polyembryonic seed. That means you plant one seed and more than one seedling sprout from it. Wild! I have had 8 plants sprout from one seed.

There are two reasons for this... 1) It takes a lot of time to pick and organize the mangos, and to take care of other things happening around the grove, and 2) We usually sell out of fruit in the hours that we're open. During the mango off-season, we don't have much fruit to sell but we have plenty of work to do. It's almost impossible to be open while working on a project.
I'm also thinking despite some excellent varieties in Pakistan, why growers have not tried to bring Pakistani cultivars in US. i think big mango orchards owners should try to get some varieties.

if you have the chance, try the Carabao mangos in the Philippines. There is also the sweet Elena strain of Carabao which is the sweetest mango according to Guinness. In Europe, I find only the Kent industrial mango grown in South America or Kenya. They are fine but they do not have the floral scents nor the gold even color of the carabao. Carabao has the quality of 80 dollar Japanese mangos minus the 79.50 dollars. Kent 'travels' well in shipping containers, its still good though.

There's literally nothing about the alphonso mango tree on youtube, except for an Indian guy who speaks some 20% english and 80% Hindi homogeneously blended into an unintelligible string of gibberish. I dont think any mangoes from America's would compare with the Indian varieties. Kesar, Badami, Alphonso, chaunsa, baganpalli, sindhura, etc. Are so awesome.
@@Vapornator If you travel to India and have mangoes from different places there you will change your mind. It is not just about how sweet they are - it is about flavors, texture. I have heard about some mangoes from Japan and Australia that are very good but, it is just one or two varieties you will find there. In India there are so many varieties and each variety has a unique flavor.

I have four mango trees on my property: 'Dot' , 'Glenn' , 'Mallika' and 'Nam Doc Mai'. My favorite, since a child, is 'Glenn'.

We grow Alphonso, so we will definitely do a video on it. Unfortunately that variety doesn't fruit well in this area, so we're waiting on a good year.
