90 days in 180 days will work for me. Best of both, earn UK money, pay Bulgaria house prices.

Depends on where you live. Bulgarian "house prices" are very expensive in some places even by European standards.

@@cowboybeboop9420 Yes, on the coast, but rural cheap as chips compared with the UK.

There was a period when it wa squite common for "English grandpas" to come to Bulgaria and people generally liked it since they'd buy some random house in the countryside and would become a sorce of income for us.
That kind of ended around 2008 though.
Times today are quite different though. Bulgaria got a bit richer and less and less Bulgarians started migrating West.
A lot more people now migrate here either from Russia and Ukraine and some of the Syrians also come here.
Eastern Europeans work mostly retail and the Syrians go into crafts. Everybody works in construction.

Thank you for invaluable tips and stories about crossing Europe by car. We’re leaving (permanently) for Bulgaria within next year-18months. Todor is Bulgarian. We’ve only ever flown from Luton or Bristol. So, thanks, it’s given me more confidence to make that European road trip :)

Good info Nick..and yes, finding pukker tea out of the UK is difficult. Other countries always seem to sell that Lipton 'Tea"...Which is a waste of boiling water!...We are now in BG up by the Danube looking for a house, and of course, brought a load of Yorki Teabags with us in our campervan. Most of the houses we have seen so far are diabolical, however, we have seen one with 'potential', and making a second viewing tomorrow. Best wishes. Tony and Carolyn. :)

Hi Nick enjoyed the video. Given your knowledge of Bulgaria, which areas would you recommend for a non Bulgarian speaker, looking for a quiet / village (with some people) within 5 / 10 miles of a town. Looking to move and just started to learn ths cyrillic alphabet 🙄 which as a self / home older learner is quite the task - it's hard enough remembering what did last week let alone a new language ! PS. Set up a PO Box then followers can send you some Yorkshire Tea

My area is Troyan, lots of villages around the town, Smolyan is a good town, Devin, Zlatograd, Petrich, Elena, I don't know the coast in detail but the south area called the Stranja is very nice.

Great episode! Listening twice and taking notes. I am not familiar with UK brands of caravans. Was there any brand that you zeroed in on as being good quality. I would be looking for something small, like 2 birth that would be easy to tow with a 4x4 Toyota suv. Here in the States, I have a vintage Airstream Bambi which I love. I don’t care how old something is as long as it is in good shape. Thanks for all you do to share and inform us Nick. Bye for now, Marja.

Swift or Eldiss are not bad and if you want classic older van the Vanroyce or Cotswold , I had a 1979 American Foretravel on the Dodge bus chassis with a big Cummins engine, was a work of art.
