      What about one gallon tanks? Also, why do several 15% changes a week, are they disrupted by larger ones?

    • @GirlTalksFish
      @GirlTalksFish  4 роки тому +1

      @@unusualaquariumecosystems5805 Good question. Yes, the small water changes are to keep the water quality as clean and stable as possible since fry can be more sensitive to changes. :)

      I have balloon mollies who I love dearly. My little Luna died overnight and I have no idea why. She was swimming around the night before with no obvious signs of any wounds/ fungal infections etc. My other balloon mollies are fine and alive, my water parameters are fine. The weird part is that she was stuck to my magnet dead. How does a fish get stuck to a magnet?? I'm so sad I lost my Luna and worst is I don't know if I did something wrong or not :(

    I absolutely adore balloon mollies. I have several in different colours, and in different community tanks. Names are Pepsi, Pebbles, Popcorn, Truffles, Cookies and Cream. They have so much personality. Of all my fish (bettas, platies, guppies, cories, pleco, raspboras, pencil fish, neons) I think they have the biggest personality (besides the bettas of course). They are also literally ALWAYS eating or looking to eat. They're basically little water puppies lol. Thanks for the information - luckily mine haven't been sick, but it is good to know what to do in case.

My water tests were good, and I did water changes so I couldn't figure out why. But now thanks to watching this I understand! I haven't gotten any since, and miss them because I love their personalities! They always greeted and were such characters. Now that I know what to do, I might get more in the future.

    I’ve always used the teaspoon method of salt; 1 tsp/g for any fish, 1.25 excluding cories, 1.5 excluding catfish and some loaches, most cichlids and livebearers can go to 1.75. I just find it easier to multiply once and not have to divide. Call me old fashioned... but we both agree - SALT WORKS!

    How do you rehome them? I got a single female because she was all that was left at the shop. I didn't even know she was pregnant, she didn't look pregnant. Suddenly a few weeks ago I had 3 extra fish coming up at feeding time...baby mollies! They were already a few weeks old before I realized they existed and I stare into my tanks all the time! I have no idea how they survived.

  • @joblow5517

    Mollies are one of those fish that absolutely need hard water and a high ph to thrive. A ph of at least 7.5 is ideal and a gh of at least 180ppm. My tap water is also very soft and low in ph. One thing I've done that's helped a lot is put bags of crushed coral in the filters and also put some in the substrate.

  • @johnjohnsten4158

    Platies are easier to take care of than mollies so I would start with platies. Where I live (Utah) the water is quite hard but may need a dash of added aquarium salt especially in the spring and especially for mollies. I real good fry plant is hornwart but I usually separated my fry.

    I learned about the brackish water issues after a molly brought home a disease that my fresh water fish weren't immune to. That was horrible. I tried Mollies again in their own 10 gallon tank. They died there too. I finally found a care guide, probably Cory's, that mentioned brackish water. I am going to try them again this time in a brackish tank.

    I am reaching out to you as you seem to be the one out of the three “aquarium” channels I follow that replies. I have a 50 gallon which has in it 9 platy, 2 panda corydoras, 2 hillstream loaches (which I literally love love love) and a 6 yr old fancy goldfish my son had to have years ago named Billybob. They all get along great. My concern is if the loaches are getting enough to eat! I feed algae wafers, billybob eats them, I feed sinking shrimp pellets -billybob eats them, I feed floating pellets goldfish and beta size - billybob eats them, I feed sinking carnivore pellets and Spirulina (oh the smell) you guessed it billybob eats them in true goldfish fashion! I don’t worry about the platies or pandas I see them eat.. the loaches which honest to goodness I love I worry about. I’ve fed in total darkness and that PIG EATS IT... help please I don’t want them to starve or be malnourished! They do suck on the glass but I don’t think it’s enough and my algae levels are really low
    I’m editing this because I’ve also tried to feed billybob on one side of the tank to distract her but nope built in sonar she finds everything!

    • @GirlTalksFish
      @GirlTalksFish  4 роки тому

      Oh man, that's rough! Well, I've found that my hillstream loaches seem to prefer eating off the ground (not the surface), so sinking foods would probably be best. Then maybe try feeding something that's small and scatters a lot, so maybe some kind of small nano pellet? Hopefully if the food is spread all over the place, then your goldfish has to spend time looking for the food and your loaches will get a chance to get a bite. :)

Like my guppies and RCS are doing great and breed but my Molly's kept doing those weird wiggles and die and i was thinking it was the hardness but even raising KH and GH did nothing to help them. Good to know salt helps. Might fill a 5 gallon bucket for them to breed in and get the fry in my freshwater tank and donate the parents to someone with a saltwater aquarium.

I have a 40 gallon that’s heavily decorated and planted with guppies 1 angel fish 3 honey gourami and lots of Cory cats. I’d love to try a ram cichlid but my main concern are my cories getting in its way causing stress for both fish. My cories are the only fish that are near the bottom all the time and the most outgoing.

      Eee, I'm nervous about getting some expensive fancy guppies since I've heard they're a lot weaker than most, but I saw some tuxedo red guppies a few month ago and was absolutely stunned by their beauty. Will definitely have to try them some time!
