@@MrMrPopols Not necessarily true. Obviously, I am not speaking from experience as there is no real way to compare difficulty unless I was simultaneously a native Chinese speaker who tried learning another language and a speaker of another language trying to learn a Chinese language, but the reason why Chinese is so difficult is because it is tonal. As I said, I don't know of the difficulties a person would face that only knows tonal languages while trying to learn a non-tonal language, but it is very unlikely that the challenge is equal. Another thing to note is that google seems to agree with me that tonal speakers don't have that much trouble with non-tonal languages.

It's really just saxon(germanic) mixed with french and latin.. no big deal. Phonetics wise it's really simple. Spanish is harder... not nearly as much as portuguese though, we got nearly double the phonetic sounds, which is why spaniards can't speak portuguese but the portuguese speak spanish easily. And portuguese is not nearly as complex as languages like chinese or japanese... where even slight tone changes in a word make it a different word. English doesn't even have gendered objects... generally speaking anything I say in my native language, will be cut down into half the words if I say it in english. It's pretty much as simple as you can get, as far as languages go.

@@jorgemiguel2641 Portuguese and English are both members of the Indo-European language family-Portuguese belongs to the Romance branch (along with Spanish, Italian and French) and English belongs to the Germanic branch (which also includes German, Dutch, and Norwegian). So in part, the similarities between English and Portuguese are “genetic” since they are distant relatives, but on top of that they also evolved in the same language area, a geographical area of intense linguistic exchange.
Languages that evolve in the same linguistic area tend to converge towards each other, even if they are completely unrelated. In Western Europe, this meant that the Germanic and Romance languages became more similar over time, sharing a lot of vocabulary (especially borrowings from Latin) and grammatical constructions. If you’re an English speaker studying Portuguese or any other Romance language, you’ll find that there are some sentences built in much the same way, but with more inflection (more verb forms and nominal agreement), and there are many words in common.
English is most closely related to Frisian and Low Saxon, while its vocabulary has been significantly influenced by other Germanic languages, particularly Old Norse (a North Germanic language), as well as Latin and French. English has developed over the course of more than 1,400 years.
That's why it seemed easy for you and learn at such a young age. When I made this comment I had in mind more Asian, Middle Eastern type languages and the likes that have little to no ties to the roots of the English language. Approximately 32% of Portuguese people can speak and understand English, while 24% can speak and understand French. Despite Spanish being mutually intelligible in a sense that most Portuguese understand it written and/or spoken, only 9% of the Portuguese population can speak it fluently. In turn as someone on a boarder state growing up around Spanish and having a mother who use to speak it before I was born and she fell out of practice I found it enjoyable and interesting to learn Spanish and was getting good at it. About 13% of U.S Citizens speak Spanish. Its has it quirks compared to my language but I found it easier to learn and understand than Madeiran or other Asian, and Middle Eastern type languages which as I said share little to nothing with the roots of our language, grammar, or characters.

Found out about him yesterday, his hometown was 15 minutes from mine.
What a shame his passing is, dude was a treasure of a human being in so many ways. His light touched millions of hearts, RIP legend.

Sad to hear of him passing.
He'll be immortalised here on UA-cam, and hopefully serve as an inspiration for others to just get out there and try learning a new language.
