    It's Alexis Tolstoy, not Ivan. "The Family of the Vourdalak" was first published in French in 1839 and the a few years before "Dracula in Russian.
    It is the closest version of the vampire myth being the only story where the vampire is not of noble birth and shows that the most gruesome element of is that the vampire haunts its own family.

      Yes, I know. IDK why Karloff said Ivan. Especially when he played in the adaptation of the story. It's one of my favorite horror stories. The atmosphere is top notch. I like all the horror trilogy from Tolstoy (which also includes "The Vampire" and "The Reunion after 300 years"
