These tips are so good that I'm mad that I sat through 100 subpar tutorials from other creators prior to watching this. Great stuff Sean! Love the analogies :)

That tip of adding the tripod to the bottom is genius!! Never heard anyone say that before, can't wait to use it in the field

Wanting to make dope home videos for the kiddos to look back on as they grow up. Photographer for a decade or so, this was helpful to delve into videography a bit more, which will obviously all be handheld just shooting candid moments throughout the year. Thanks!

    Thank you for this,
btw if your camera has battery grip attachment, it also helps a lot with the weight and you don't need to change batteries as often

Yes, I agree with your point of having a top handle. It gives access to interesting angles of views. Specialy with an Ultra Wide Angle, beeing close to the floor allows interesting compositions.
Just one point, I’ve chosen a top handle equiped with a start/stop button. It’s more convenient.

Great tips in shooting handheld. The exampls of what fonts to never use in videos was a nice added bonus.

this is way beyond the scope but my workflow for production shots when I need complete control and ample room for director feedback. Have a BMPCC6k pro. I shoot at super high frame rate to remove any motion blur artifacts for post. I use the "Gyro" setting in resolve to stabilize. it removes rolling shutter and has zero jelly effect. once the footage is stabillized I use "camera shake plates" and track them with a planar tracker in fusion to get whatever kind of cam shake/movement I desire. then I reintroduce motion blur with optical flow and a vector motion blur node in fusion. Lots of work but end result looks amazing.

When I was small I was shining a laser pointer into a neighbors window and they were screaming and shouting all night out the window, threatening to shoot me. It was hilarious. Anyways, I love shooting handheld, so I rigged out my camera cage with external batteries for added weight and it works well. on TIP 4, I tend to literally fall after leaning for that last second of "smoothness" when shooting slow mo. 😅

if you use your widest lens and shoot hand held and the IBIS is on, there could be some warping on the edges. at least for me lol.

Man.. will deginitely try this. I have a zv-e1 with smallrig cage & top handle but my footage always is jittery conpared to what I see from other people.. especially in 4k24 1/50 f1.8 😅😅

I’m surprised you haven’t mentioned side handles. I find them more useful than a top handle in any handheld situation. Except maybe for low angles.

What film burn transitions are you using? Are they from motionvfx?

What about shutter speed? 180 degree rule can ruin certain types of handheld footage and make it impossible to stabilise in post.

Actually, these good advices are applicable to all cameras, but if you shoot Panasonic (GH5 or newer) you can almost walk with it. It’s a different beast.
