Hi Randi- I think we have your first camper! Yes, it can be a challenge. I wanted a LGM, but our older Tacoma will not pull it. So we opted for a compromise, until we can afford a bigger truck. Since most campgrounds have picnic tables, we keep the queen bed down. I ordered a 4" memory foam topper, that will switch to the house bed in the winter. I will also bring in the camper cushions to prevent any mold issues. We take two card table chairs that fit perfectly in that small kitchen area. We place large tubs in the truck bed to house most of our stuff. I make sure the covers have a list of what's inside! Two small carry-on suitcases fit under the bed for our clothes and toiletries. We did have to configure every nook and cranny, like a puzzle. That said, our teardrop is designed for off road boon docking in the underbrush. It would be perfect for one person. We are heading for the New Hampshire beach this Monday, booking at a campground before it closes for the season. Our tear drop is small enough to park by the 🌊 ⛵ beach on our trip in. We found a seafood restaurant with a parking lot large enough to allow tear drop. Then we will head for the 🔥⛺ campground, sign in, pick up camp wood and relax for the afternoon. Our tiny RV serves the purpose of getting us out and is able to maneuver into small places, including booked campgrounds!
I am so thrilled for you Diane, your teardrop sounds perfect! 😁 There is nothing better than getting outdoors and especially beach camping. 🏝 Our small campers have so many advantages. 🌻🔥✨🌞🌄🌅
Thanks Randi!- We had a great time at the beach. The state park let us in with Teardrop to visit the Science Center. It was a Monday. The parking lot was half empty. Found a corner to park and walk to the ocean. While we were there, someone came up to us and asked to see our camper. We recommended the LGM, but she said, like us, she would get an EZ-Up 10x10 pop up screen tent to use with it and store items in the truck. This lady lives in NH and wants to go camping with us! I just joined Sisters on the Fly (member # 19286) and hope to meet other members in New England. Jim & I will follow your channel and travels, especially winter camping! ~ Diane
Randi - I've been watching so many of your videos. I told you in the comments of one of your videos on tents vs small campers that we actually decided against a camper and purchased a tent. Then, last week, a 2019 GeoPro G15TB (15 ft twin bed model) popped up on Craigslist in like new condition. So many features we loved, plus roomy and spacious feeling. We realized it was a sweet deal and wouldn't be there long, so we bought it and brought it home! I wish I could show it to you - in fact, it's funny, but I thought about YOU and this video when we were looking through the camper - that's how you know your videos really DO impact people - haha! My husband is retiring in November so we are suddenly going to have a lot of free time on our hands. I'm so excited and can't wait to take our new little 'GeoBug' (as I call it) camping! For now, I'm just enjoying shopping for it and sitting in it each morning with a cup of coffee in my back yard! Keep putting out those great videos - yours is my FAVORITE camping channel - a source of both fun and practical information!
I remember your comment on the tent vs small camper video! 😉 Tent camping can be awesome but I am so thrilled for you and your GeoPro adventures yet to come! I have a feeling you are in for the time of your life. Maybe someday I can see your GeoBug! Enjoy every minute… sometimes it’s the small moments that can bring us the biggest smiles. 😁
Lots to consider. I am currently RV shopping for a boondocking RV for fulltiming. I need floor space for 3 large dog beds plus one large crate. I'm getting a 37 foot toy hauler travel trailer. In bad weather, the dogs can play in the garage area.😄 Your tips are super relevant!
@@RandisAdventures , Thanks Randi! I know its a little unconventional, but when breaking it down everything it needs to do, like you said, a fullsize travel trailer toy hauler seems to sum it up. If I do a 5th wheel, I lose my truck bed with a full canopy for storing and transporting my dog kennels. Dogs always ride inside the crewcab though. I'm looking strongly at the Keystone Fusion Impact 330 model.
Hi! I 100% agree! Honestly I was reluctant to do this video because I thought smaller camper owners would think my message would be one size is better and that’s not the case. I am this biggest small camp advocate and size depends on personal preference. I am hopeful my small camper buyer suggestions help buyers be more aware of the things I wish I knew as an RV newbie. ☺️
We made the same mistake, but thankfully our first camper was used so the $$ hit wasn't as bad. Our first camper was a Little Guy 5 Wide, so no bathroom, no heat and the kitchen was out back in the clamshell. Our first very cold boondock experience found us at our local dealer looking for a bigger unit. 4 months later we had decided on the Little Guy Max and now have everything we need for boondocking and primitive sites.
Hi Beth Anne! Buying a used camper as a first time RV newbie was a financially smart move! I too love boondocking in my Little Guy Max! It’s a great small camper packed with functionality! 👍
This is all right on the money. Our first TT was a 2015 Tab w/o a wet bath but had the small indoor kitchen. We had it for 10 months and upgraded for exactly the same reasons. We love our LGM!
I was thinking about the issue of the bed conversion issue on the smaller teardrops and this actually answered my issues. We don't like to make the bed at home daily and usually one of us sleeps later, at home it's me but camping its my hubby so having that separate bed space would be best so we don't disturb each other
I don’t like to make my bed at home either Kathy! ☺️ Because of work schedules my husbands and my sleep schedules are different which was challenging in such a small space.
Thank you for sharing your experiences and insights. When we were looking at trailers, we did a few things beyond those you mention. (1) We sat in the dinette to see how easily it was to get in and out of, and how much space we had. (2) I paid attention to how deep cabinets were and how easily accessible the under bed storage was. (3) I stepped into the bathroom and took a faux shower. I am 6'2'', 260 lbs and made sure that showering was going to be comfortable.
Your hair and dress are gorgeous! My husband and I made a mistake buying an A-Frame travel trailer before the T@B. The A-Frame was not a good fit for us. Like you said, it is worth it to take your time with the purchase.
Awww thanks Joyce! 💙 There is no one perfect camper for everyone so spending some time in it and taking time to think things through is the best way to avoid buyers remorse.
I hope so Mike! It was crushing for me after just a few camping trips to learn I bought the wrong small camper. There is no one size fits all but hopefully my mistakes gives future RV buyers things to consider before making a purchase.
Hi Randi! I have a small camper and there is a full size bed with a small storage compartment underneath one small portion of the bed platform. It has a little gas strut to hold the lightweight panel cut out of the platform. I was very pleased with this great bonus space.....until I put a 4 inch mattress topper on it. The topper was much heavier than I imagined and the panel and strut were not designed for that weight. It is a bugger to open and I certainly can't put in any items I will use regularly. I knew a topper was a must so I should have not considered the space as very useful. Just a consideration, but I love my new trailer and will just have to rethink, a little bit, what I want to bring with me. Thanks for being so straightforward about your first trailer mistake!
Hi Susan! I am so thrilled about your new camper. That is a bummer about your under mattress storage space but yes, we don't always know about these things until we actually use them! Maybe you could keep heavier warm clothing in that space that you won't use often but nice to have when you need them?
I would just add a couple of things to the think list. What is your vehicle tow capacity? What is the trailer weight (empty )? What is the trailer maximum weight? This way you know if you will need a different vehicle for your dream trailer. It would be super handy to be able to rent the trailer for a weekend but that is rarely possible, but it would be handy.
Very good points! It’s smart to know if your vehicle can tow a camper before you buy and don’t just go by what the dealership tells you because after all they want the sale.
Hi Randi!! Little campers like yours are awesome for a lot of people. I just don’t think I could do it for more than a couple days in something that size. Way to go with another fun video.
For any folks who think they want an RV- I highly recommend that you go to an RV show and try out a ton of models. I quickly realized many models would not be suitable for me. I am 6'5" tall and the bed and head room was the major reason my wife and I chose a Little Guy Max. A 76" RV bed would never have worked for me, and many small campers do not have the interior height of the Max. I love love love my Little Guy. Great video Randi!
Hi!!! I too love my Little Guy Max! 💙 Bed area and height are two things that make this small camper more functional in my opinion... especially if you are 6’5” tall!
We r in the looking mode and was wondering if you still love your camper, we looked at the mini max kind of too small thank you sunshine for any updates you can provide!
@@glennsenechal4786 Yes- I can say unequivocally that I love my Little Guy Max. The construction is far superior to other campers. I like the fact it is about a 22ft camper, and I have a tall bay in my garage, with a 12ft roll-up door, where my Max fits perfectly. You will need something more than a Jeep to pull the Max though, as the empty weight is 3,200, and fully loaded is just north of 3,800. My F-150 pulls it very easily. Before then, I pulled it with a 4.7 L V8 Dodge Dakota, which got the job done, but you could feel the trailer.

Great video Randi... The great advantage to the small camper is that it can be taken places where a bigger camper can't go. But I would rather have the room inside for long term living and park it where I can. However, we are planning on living long term in the trailer when we retire. But for a weekend warrior I think a small trailer is a much better option. It can be pulled with a lot lighter of a vehicle and you can go to a lot of campgrounds I can't... Great video, Pat
