The latest song to be released as a single from the Claudia Brücken album she made with producer Stephen Hague, The Lost Are Found, is a song written by David Bowie, 'Everyone Says "Hi"'. It was the only single available in the U.K. from Bowie's 2002 Heathen album. Claudia first thought of singing the song months ago, when Bowie was to some extent less present, a little more in the shadows, than he is now. She wanted to cover the song not least because its themes loss, mourning, and, essentially, how a great, bitter-sweet sad song can somehow, in its presentation, its sensitivity, the overall sense of love whatever the circumstances fitted well with the sequence of melancholic but inspirational songs chosen for The Lost Are Found. It was also a form of recommendation, very much confirmed recently with the unexpected appearance of Bowie's 'Where Are We Now,' how Bowie's later, not so widely known songs can be as powerful and resonant as his more obvious early classics.

Just discovered this -- one of my Bowie favorites, beautifully redone here.
Interestingly, many think "Everyone Says Hi" is a goodbye to a friend who has died, but this video makes it more of a companion to "Gemini Spaceship", a cover from the same Bowie LP about an astronaut who "passed through the shadow of Jupiter" and thinks about his loved one back home. Here, he's communicating with his loved one via Skype, essentially. Neat.
(Sorry, only just discovered this after 6 years!) At the BBC gig he did to promote the Heathen album, DB introduced this song by saying that he often found himself thinking about dead people he'd known as not actually having died, but just gone away on a long holiday, and "Everyone Says Hi" was about the idea that you might occasionally get postcards from them...

the cover is nice but the video is inaccurate. the song is about someone grieving by talking to a dead loved one. the song has a 2nd part from the perspective of the deceased. "if the money is lousy you can always come home" is not literal. it means we were born with nothing and we die with nothing and so if you are tired of life you can always die and return to nothing where there is no more pain or social status because all are equal in death and death (which is nothing) is where we come from so it's our home.. the lyrics are rife with a play on words/symbolism about death/after-life. Hope it's not too hot is obviously a reference to Hell.

Chraven's Chronicles the song is incredible, that actress is fascinating and Claudias voice is great. The video is quite fun too, doesn’t convey they total emotion of the song but it’s good. I’d stick to playing your PS4 if I was you and leave the commentary to people who are observant and interesting.
