Ima be honest this goes to another player for me, but lebron is definite a legend but I don't see him up there with the greatest. I never saw him as a true ball player I just saw someone that played within the rules of the NBAs version of the WWE. When I think of ball players I think of Jordan, Kobe, Iverson, Steve Nash, nawitzki, magic, etc etc etc.

Jxmmy is the goat of yt nba content but i disagree with this one. have you noticed stokton and malone's games played numbers. They are two examples of players that played non stop for almost 20 years. Think about the medical technology developing. Taller players last more bc they have this advance. Also think about the evolution of 3pt line. Look at the all time top 10 points leaders and notice how many 3pts half of them have scored. You see where this is going. One day, not so far from today a guy will step in have the playing longevity of today and even more as the med will provide (combined with his athletic state). Also when the organisation will choose the 4pt line will be there. i think Lebron will probably be the first breaking the 40,000 pts limit but the next one may break the 50,000 as we already have guys like steph, luka, trae, damian etc that are capable of scoring from such an extreme distance today. So what is expected is that one guy who will have the bag, distance scorring ability, physicallity and motivation. All that are in the hands of the nba organisation. If they wanna let the next point leader to be they will make rules that lead to softer defence and more productive offence. If they don't they will make the defence even harder. At this point i think non of them are necessery as the game have the attention needed. But economic crises may lead to a bad turn. If the game needs more attention meaning more money then something extrordinare have to happened and it will. And besides the bad ref calls i dig Adam Silver's work as much as jxmy's. Nba is in good hands.

@@ΓιώργοςΚαπάτος lets have a healthy discussion on this one, you have a great point on medical advancement and with better nutrition these days, if there is one kid who is genetically good with good nutrition, proper training and with medical advancements that can omit injury, the chances of him becoming the next scoring leader will also be steep, cause he needs the psychological state as Lebron, the love and determination he has on the game to maintain and play for 20 years, other factors that affects current players like kyrie is mental state, and for this there is no "advancements" that can help, it's all based on how much the player wants it, and let me tell you my friend, is even rarer than the best genetics can give you to have a mentality like that, what are the chances that someone that can play well, play long and maintain not only your skill, but your mentality for decades. Not in our lifetime I suppose, and I hope that happens because it will be a phenomenal player to watch.

I think his longevity must be taken into account. He took down raptors during the mesozoic era and was still around to defeat the celtics during the medieval period, giving him a career of well over 65 million years as a major world power. Some may point towards his inability to defeat large, highly trained troops of warriors in the series of wars from 1015-1018, but they fail to account for the fact that the range of their curry, as well as their natural gold reserves gave them a significant economic advantage, which was how they were able to dominate the third and fourth years of the war. However, I do think Jordan's ability to defeat the power of not just one sun, but several suns is a more impressive feat than Lebron defeating thunder itself, although victory against a force of nature is always tough.

We always think records cannot be broken, because it seems impossible when it happens.
I bet you most people thought nobody would ever surpass Kareem when he broke the record.
Yet, 40 years later, here we are.
Does not matter how long it takes, there is always one guy that does it.
      It's human evolution and progress.

      @GuillaumeRx Рік тому +17

@@JR-wj9bh I mean, there are kids entering the league now, that shoot more 3's than Curry ever did at the same age, with pretty much the same efficiency.
Of course, Curry will still be considered the GOAT shooter by many people, even if (when) someone breaks his 3Pt record.
Just because he impacted and changed the game, and did it better than anyone before, when nobody was doing it.
And Lebron's record is sure way harder to beat.
But still, the evolution of the game makes it so that there are probably a few players that will beat Curry's record in the next 15 to 25 years.
This reminds me of a fascinating story, of a man you may have heard of, called Roger Bannister:
Before 1954, most sports specialists thought no human being could ever run a mile in less than 4 minutes.
People wanted to do it since 1886, and nobody had ever succeeded, in 70 years of trying.
      Because it was "impossible".
Then, in 1954, against all odds, Roger Bannister does run a mile in less than 4 minutes, for the first time in history.
The interesting part is that, after he did, a lot of athletes around the world started doing it as well.
The same year, in 1954, someone beat his 3:59 time.
The next year, three other guys beat them...
      In the same race.
And a thousand followed until now.
Roger Bannister had just made the impossible, well, possible.
I understand Lebron's record is a different situation, but my point is, someone probably, eventually will beat his record.
But I might be wrong, and only time will tell :)

I'm from Cleveland, and I'll never forget the moment we found out the Cavs won the number one pick (which of course would be Lebron). My parents were inside watching, I was out on the driveway playing on our hoop (which was on a huge slope) and suddenly I started hearing huge screaming and yelling from inside the house. I was 8. I couldn't understand why they were so excited. The winning of the pick that would be LeBron is one of my earliest, solid memories
13 years later I got to watch CLE win the championship from inside the Q. I somehow got tickets from a friend. It was probably one of the most magical moments in Cleveland history.

People love watching him play. When the game started it was all types of heckling that you would see on social media, you know the typical "cry baby" or "LeFraud" etc.. but you could tell they really do enjoy him being on the court. End of the game it was all cheers and excitement and running as close to the court as possible to get pictures and videos of him. Even the people who claim they hate him really do love him. I believe that dating back to Wilt there has been legitimate candidates to beat the All-Time record. It is very likely that no one in the league at the time of LeBrons retirement will be close to 1. being on track, and 2. have a realistic chance to last long enough to beat it.

What you have to consider is that when that article came out of who had the best chance of breaking the record people emphasized that theyd have to keep a similar trajectory for years without injuries and little drop off which many deemed impossible, I think it’s more impressive when you had people like Colin Cowherd say that LeBron’s superstar career would’ve start to decline nearly a decade ago in 2015 when he turned 30, the biggest emphasis is that anyone can “disqualify” it by saying “it’s just a longevity record” but if you lived through the ups and downs of his career and you’re not a hater than you can admit the greatness of this record, from the many careers that could’ve been and where derailed by injuries LeBron is one of the few greats. This reminds me of the fascinating story of Roger Bannister:
Before 1954, most sports specialists had come to the conclusion that no human being could ever run a mile in less than 4 minutes.
People wanted to do it since probably at least 1886, everybody had tried, and yet nobody had ever succeeded, in about 70 years chasing that record.
    Because it was simply "impossible".
Then comes the 6th of May, 1954, and against all odds, Roger Bannister does run a mile in less than 4 minutes, for the first time in history.
    Cool story, right?
    So what?
Well, that's not the interesting part.
The interesting part is that, after he did, a lot of athletes around the world started doing it as well.
The same year, in 1954, someone beat his 3:59 time.
The next year, three other guys beat them...
    In the same race.
And a thousand followed until now.
In 3 minutes and 59 seconds, Roger Bannister had just made the impossible, well, possible.
    He "made God bleed".
Of course, I understand Lebron's record is a different situation, but my point is, someone, eventually, will probably beat his record.
Because a lot of these crazy records often seem impossible to beat at the time, until someone inevitably does.
It's the nature of human evolution.
But I might be wrong, as often.
    Only time will tell :)

The 4-minute barrier is a bit mythologized. Those within the sport considered 4 minutes to be less impossible and more overdue when Bannister made his run. If not for WWII culling and distracting a generation of athletes, plus Sweden's Anderson and Hagg receiving bans from competition, the barrier most likely falls years earlier. Until those two events the record was falling incredible fast, from above 4m 10s as late as 1931 to 4m 1s in 1944. Not exactly indicative of a record with a mental barrier. Compare that to the 100m and Long Jump, which saw Jesse Owen's records remaining unsurpassed for 20 years since the mid-1930s in disciplines that drew much heavier competition.

    1) He's not the ultimate scorer, he's actually the ultimate offensive player. For many years of his career, he was a better passer than he was a scorer. His court vision is unmatched for a forward (although I will say Jocic in Den is a damn good passer for a Center).
This is shown by the fact that he is in the top 5 in all time assists. No one else on the all time scoring list is also anywhere close to the top 10 on assists. Oscar Robertson and Russ Westbrook are 8 and 10 In assists but 13 and 28 in points.
Let's look at the guys LBJ has passed and how they were as passers. Kareem, not a great passer and benefited from playing with Magic who was a all time great passer. Karl Malone, not a passer at all, and actually benefited from playing with the all time assists leader John Stockton. Kobe and Michael were both do it yourself shooters, not passers who wanted the ball in their hands and would regularly shoot double teamed.
LBJ was such a good passer, when he left for Miami we actually thought the Cavs would make the playoffs as a 5 or 6 seed the next year. We won less than 20 games for the next 3 years and were consistently the worst team in the league. He made guys who below average look like quality players. His 07 Finals team, and his 2018 teams were absolutely atrocious, but LBJ still got them to the finals. Both times he left Cleveland, we didn't sniff the playoffs the next year.
Now let's look at playoff assists. LeBron is second to only Magic Johnson in playoff assists, he actually has more than John Stockton. LeBron always had good teams in Miami(Wade and R. Allen) to pass the ball to, but his 1st tenure in Cleveland he was carrying the entire team, along with his last year in Cleveland after Kyrie left LBj was doing 100% of the heavy lifting. He has only made one deep playoff run with the Lakers, and he had AD on that team to pass the ball to that year. Magic had Kareem, James Worthy, and Byron Scott to pass the ball to in big moments in big games. In conclusion, For about half of Lebron's deep playoff runs, he's had no one to pass the ball to and still ranks second in playoff assists.
    2) LBJ's longevity. Let met give you an example of how insane LBJ's longevity has been. LBJ is 1 year older than Dwight Howard and they were both picked 1st one year apart. They were in their athletic prime at the exact same time. Howard was 1st team all NBA for 5 straight seasons from 08-12 and an 8 time all star from 07-14. Very impressive, no doubt and certainly a HOFer. We know LBJ was in his prime at this time because he won all 4 of his MVPs during this time period. He should of won a few more but they started looking for other players to give it to, but I digress.
Let's jump forward in time a bit. By 2020, LBJ is the best player on the NBA Champion Lakers, Dwight Howard is lucky to be in the starting lineup on occasion. By 2023, LBJ is still a top 20 player in the league, and Dwight Howard is out of the league, despite being a year younger then LBJ. Dwight Howard hasn't been an All-star since 2014, meanwhile LeBron has been an All-star every year since, and has been 1st team All NBA 5 out of 8 of those years.
None of this is meant to put Dwight Howard down, he had a HOF career, it just goes to show LBJ has basically found a way to extend his prime about 8-9 years past what a typical HOF player. Dwight Howard is a solid HOF top, there are many HOFers who had far worse careers in comparison.
An even better example of LBJ's longevity is Chris Bosh. They are the same age, and were drafted into the league the same year. Chris Bosh has been retired so long, he has already been inducted into the Hall of Fame 2 years ago, while LeBron was still playing at All-NBA 2nd team level. There are numerous players still in the league like James Harden, Russel Westbrook, Lamarcus Aldridge, DeMarcus Cousins, Serge Ibaka, Danny granger, Lance Stephenson, the list goes on that came into the league after LeBron, hit their prime after LeBron, and are already pretty much washed up or are out of the league while LeBron is producing at an all-pro level still.

But there's an issue with this chart 17:05 Lebron's 5 season career average is just slightly below Luka's (27.3 vs 27.5) driven by Lebron's astonishing Y3 31.4 average. But as you know, Lebron over the next 5 years after that through Miami dipped just slightly. This is important bc this graph isn't a projection, it's more a reflection of reality. A projection would be interesting bc Luka is trending up while Lebron plateaued, albeit still hyper productive. If Luka were to score 30 or more on average for the next 5 seasons, which isn't unbelievable in the slightest given his 33ppg currently, his Y10 aggregate points would easily be above Lebron's. Had you projected Luka out 3-5 years at the average of his previous 2 seasons, he'd be well above Lebron. He's on pace now to far exceed Lebron's best year in terms of average points. The real question is his longevity as well as how insanely productive Lebron has been in Y19 & Y20. But his second stint at Cleveland is where a player like Luka can make up quite a lot of ground where he was well below his season average

For those of you not old enough to remember, Lebron was incredible right away, literally from his first game as an 18-year-old. He was an incredible athlete _(obviously)_ but he was also an excellent passer and playmaker. He wasn't a good shooter yet, but he was so big and fast and strong and skilled that he could score like crazy anyway.
Then he played basically forever without getting injured hardly at all; he only started having injury issues once he got to the Lakers in his mid to late 30's. If he really does play until Bronny gets into the league, he'll probably pass Robert Parish for most games played in the regular season. He's currently 200 behind Parish and this season isn't over yet, so 4 seasons of 50 each will do it _(or 67 each if Bronny is good enough to be one-and-done)._ He's currently 118 behind Kareem if we count playoff games, which we really should. He probably passes that next year or the year after.
Lebron is also one of very few players who hasn't had any significant dropoff in production as he's gotten older. He's currently 38, and the only other instance I can recall of a player being this good this old is MJ. Jordan retired for the last time at 40, and despite what people think they remember from his Wizards days, he was still excellent; he just got injured and missed time. Lebron _might_ be a little better as an old guy, but it's close and he's not 40 yet, either.
Lebron also has the 5th highest career scoring average of all time, _(Jordan and Wilt are basically tied at 30.1, then Elgin Baylor at 27.4, KD at 27.3 and Lebron at 27.2)._ So he's an all-time great per-game scorer, too _(Luka would be 3rd if he had played enough games to qualify for the list, so Lebron is likely to be 6th pretty shortly; I don't see Luka's scoring decreasing any time soon)._
So _in theory_ it would be possible for someone to surpass Lebron, but they'll have to be an all-time level scorer who starts very young, plays 20+ years, and plays almost all the games. Basically it would take the second coming of MJ, but with no mid-career retirement, no post-Bulls break, and fewer injuries. And he'd have to play a couple extra years at the end of his career, too.
I know it sounds utterly ridiculous, but I think this might actually happen at some point. Likely no time soon _(i.e., within 30 years),_ but scoring is up in the NBA and shooting is getting wild, so I could see some crazy shooter averaging 30 for a long time; imagine a 6'7" Steph Curry who never gets injured. Or maybe Dallas decides that the way to win titles is to ask Luka to score 35 a game and he somehow does that for like 16 years. It sounds insane _(and it kind of is)_ but it's at least vaguely plausible. I actually think Wilt's rebound record and Stockton's assist record might be harder to break because both those stats are way down from the times they were set, whereas scoring is near its all-time high _(in the 60's everyone played at an insane pace and the scoring averages were slightly higher; they're significantly more efficient now)._

    • @jgray2718
      @jgray2718 Рік тому

@@Night-uq6gk MJ's Wizards days were when he was 38, 39, and 40, or at least he officially retired when he was 40. If Lebron stays healthy for 4 more years he might be able to put the scoring record as far out of reach of today's players as the assist and rebound records, but scoring is up and rebounds are down _(way down, actually)._ Assists are up overall, but very few teams have a single guy getting all the assists. The Warriors get the most assists in the league _(and far more than the Stockton/Malone Jazz ever did)_ and have for years, but their leading assist guy is Draymond, with about 8 a game for the last 7 years, which is pretty typical. It's more of a team effort now.
So the scoring record is super high and will get even more out of reach, but the way the game is changing we can guess scoring will probably continue to be up with shooting getting even better and more team-based play. Better shooting and more people handling the ball means fewer rebounds and a greater spread of assists, making those records harder to reach, and they're already untouchable _(Wilt has about 24k rebounds; the highest active player is Dwight Howard with 14.6k. If Dwight averaged 10 rpg and 70 games/season it would take him 14 more seasons to catch Wilt. The next active player on the list is Lebron at #32)._ But if scoring is up and shooting is even better maybe someone can challenge Lebron's 40k+

But for that he would have to average 30 points a game and play all 82 games each season. And he’ll catch current in 12 more years. So barring any rule change that heavily impacts scoring (4 point line, shorter shot clock, more games a season) this record may be truly unbreakable until the next generational freak talent comes around

It will also be highly unlikely a player tops MJs 30.5 ppg for an entire career. There are players who can do that a few years but career? Only Wilt and MJ have averaged over 30ppg for an entire career!

The part about the player who was born after James' career started reminds me of the craziest longevity stat in sports that I am aware of. Between Gordie Howe's first and last NHL games, Bobby Orr was born, made it to the NHL, played his entire career, retired, and was elected into the hockey hall of fame.

Things like the one-and-done rule and load management means we'll likely never see his record broken until some major breakthrough in science and technology occur, like legitimate de-aging, but even with all that you have to come across a player with the right combination of skills and motivation among other traits.
