My brother and grandfather left me a 73 fj40. I'm far from mechanically inclined. Been slowly trying to rebuild it. When I get discouraged or stuck with frustration I watch this video to give me a little bit of motivation. I'll drive her some day... take her up the mountain to the pond we all used to fish at...

I learned to drive of one of these in 1983, when I was 16 years old... My dream to have one is not cancelled yet... Good job!!!

I did the same to an ‘80 fj40 as a “hobby in the garage “ I called it. Painted it the Same color. No wonder it took me so long. Reminds me just how much work it was. You did a great job 👍

Thank you for showing us the total rebuild of your '74 FJ40.
Your Restoration has brought this back to NEW. 1400 hrs of hard work, timelapse and editing, well deserved.
I worked in the Toyota Factory in Durban, South Africa ( now Retired) and fondly remember being in the Assembly Hall where the FJ40 was on my Production Line.
My Brother in Law had the LHD Diesel, ''SMOKY''. (We drive RHD's in South Africa).

I sure miss mine. It was a 73 that was just like this one. It was still like new back then, and I traded it in on a new 86 Hilux pickup, which I drove for the next twenty years. The wife and I called it Elsie(LC). You did a beautiful job, and I am jealous.

Wow! I worked for Toyota in the parts and service departments in 1970-1972. Always wanted a Land Cruiser like the ones coming in new. Young family so I couldn’t do it. Had plenty of Jeeps including military ones since. This one makes my heart glad!! Thanks 😊

That was amazing. You are one talented guy. My dad, brother, and I did that to a 68 Land Cruiser. It had a 350 Chevy in it. We put a automatic transmission and power steering in it. We took it down to the axles, cleaned, painted, and restored a few things. Nothing like what you had to do. My Land Cruiser was nine years old when we did it. This video brought back good memories with my dad and brother. I’m 68 now, wish I hadn’t sold the Land Cruiser. Bad decision on my part. Again, amazing job, and thanks for sharing your journey with this Land Cruiser. 👍

Im at 34:17 and I havn`t been able to turn away for more than 2 or 3 seconds since your timelapse awesome video began. We had a 72 Fj the same color back around 76-81 and went down to Baja many many times with a TRW dive (party)club. That tank never once even hiccuped with any problems ever. It just ran, ran, ran till it was just time to retire. Your video brings back so many memories of great times. You did a great job on this video especially with the music. it sort of reminds me of Bolero by Maurice Ravel with the gradual"ramping up".

Knew the FJ43 from owning qty 2 in Saudi Arabia so quite similar to the FJ40. Beautiful job restoring this. They are amazing tools for exploring trails and are as tough as a stock vehicle can be.
I never experienced a breakdown and traveled over 4 years with friends that had other early Toyota Land Cruisers (FJ40s, FJ43s and FJ45s).
Currently running a Tacoma lifted with a straight axle in front. Again, Toyota quality helps you stay out of trouble. Tough, dependable vehicles.

What a great frame-off restoration time laps presentation! My first FJ 40 was a new 1972 white I 'lost' that in a trade and later purchased a new 1976 yellow which I traded in as well. Then I bought a new 2007 FJ Cruiser silver which I still have and intend driving until I can't. These machines were made to do one thing only and do it extremely well, climb! That they do!

Beautiful! I had a pale blue '73 I bought new, and I swear that was the most honestly built vehicle I ever owned. You treated your '74 with respect and did a beautiful job.
(Mine had the older style door handles, the little French doors at the rear with a lift gate above, a separate factory heater in the rear, and IIRC less padding on the dash.) 😉

Jesus, a year of your life? YOU are one seriously dedicated individual. I owned one of these things waaaaay back when they were brand new. I NEVER had any idea of how many parts went into that thing, I thought at the time that it was the simplest and therefore would be the most reliable 4x4 around :) It was, but was soooo slow, and frankly beat me to death on the highways, much less off road. Reliable tho :)
Otoh, I now have 5 of the old 90's aluminum bodied Range Rovers. 3 I maintain and drive, and tw0 for parts. Gotta tell you, they ride one hell of a lot better than my old FJ did, easily comparable to some of today's offerings, and yes, 2 of the ones I drive still have the variable height air suspension, and 1, the tall 'mtn' coil springs conversion. From 90k miles to 210k miles, I STILL haven't had to rebuild those engines (a Buick design btw) or Transmissions, AND, they *cruise* comfortably at around 90mph (designed for European motorways.) HUGELY more Luxurious than the Toy (Queen Elizabeth used to drive a Green one as her personal vehicle- she LOVED toolin around off road on her country estates:) A Chit load more maintenance though; LUBE< LUBE< LUBE!!! lol. I'm an old guy, its nice to see a young guy like you who appreciates these FJ's, from a time when Men were MEN, and drove SERIOUS 4x4's to prove it ;:) ENJOY THAT TOY!!!!
