I am 49 years old. I have been wearing Js my whole life...starting with the Chicago 1 in '85. The one pair that eluded me from the 1 to the 11 growing up was the 2. 35 years later I copped the Chicago 2 'Reimagined'. I cannot stress what a gorgeous shoe this is in hand.
I think the 2s were the most innovative and therefore deserving of the most respect for blowing everything up. The 1s aren’t too much different than the Air Forces or Dunks for the time but the 2’s were totally original and different from the prevailing bb sneakers silhouettes. On top of that, no swoosh, which seems crazy. From there you can see the evolution into the 3’s then 4’s, my two personal favorites. I really never got why the 1s were a big deal. Could have just as easily been AF1s, Dunks of whatever 3 eyelid shoe in Bulls colorway. The 2s set it off.
1s are what started this sneaker culture we have now, and I don’t see how you can say they’re more innovative almost all of the silhouettes after them. None of the innovations from the 2s really stuck either except the removal of the swoosh which really wasn’t that crazy

This comment right here nailed it. The Jordan 2's are the reason you're even making videos about shoes...they started the entire premium shoe lines. The Jordan 1 was worn by everyone at the time , meaning every college team had their colorway's to match their team colors. They slapped red and white on them called them Jordan's..they weren't special. But the 2's started the entire history of special premium shoes. The 2's indeed did set it all off.
2’a are the most underrated Jordan ever, and I didn’t like them at all till I got a pair in 04, I was in 7th grade and man they became one of my favorite shoes ever, listened to Curren$y say they one of his favorite Jordan’s. Funny thing I bought a pair randomly and went to a Curren$y concert that day and he ended up signing them that day.
Don't forget when Curren$y freestyled to Camp Lo's song called "Luchini aka This It It". Curren$y started it off by saying "Spitta nigga, what it do, what it does/Jordan #2's wit my socks pulled up". That line hit so hard because I felt the same way when I rock my 2004 Jordan 2 "Melo". #JETLIFE
Great Story. Awesome to see culture grow. And unify folks. Especially for those of us Blessed to be living in the now with such great access to tons of kicks. For cheap or the sky is definitely the limit now days but definitely amazing especially for those of us who grew up and had to wear some bammer kicks in elementary or whatever. ✌️✌️

I never understood why the 2s are so unpopular compared to the others. It still remains the only Jordans that I've ever wanted. The black sole stripe and black laces are so distinctive, nobody wore black laces on white during that time except Jordan. When you see a clip from an old game, you know what year it is when he wears the 2s, the next six seasons all look the same from afar. I never could afford them when thet came out but I had a pair of British Knights that were white with a black stripe on the sole with black laces. It was the closest i could get. Still Jordan's coolest look.
Price. I was a middle school/ high school kid then. Had several pairs of the 1's. $100 for a shoe was unthinkable. They looked good. We liked them. Couldn't afford them and our parents were like hello naw...
The only "failure" of the 3 is to be an extremely warm shoe, I cannot wear it for more than two hours. For what I remember it's like that because it's heavily padded at Jordan's request after the injury in the 1.
Honestly... kind of heavy too. Surprised to hear in this video that MJ complained about the weight of the 2s.... and that Tinker responded with the 3s, because for me the 3s (although super cushy & comfortable) are definitely HEAVY... and warm too, as you say.
Honestly if you own a pair of air Jordan 2. you know how really really comfortable especially the 2001-02 pair and even the 2010 pair. They are so underrated. I’ll take a pair of the OG color way all day just so I can say yeah these are the ones he wore when he won his 1st dunk contest and 1st scoring title. The way the black laces hit on the white tongue. I think they are amazing, it is a higher quality version of the 1s and a more comfortable shoe overall! I really wish people wouldn’t backlash the twos so much but i understand, it’s like “oh this is what’s hip and cool” and Jordan 2 just wasn’t able to carry that at the time because it was “different” I just got my first pair of 2s and I am so excited to rock them when I get them!!!

The 2 is a slept on Jordan and whenever I see it, I feel as though Jordan Brand allowed the person to touch it because it’s not one of the more popular sneakers. For example, when Vashtie did the lilac pair in 2010, I thought that they were cool, but it would have been 100 times better if they had let her produce a Jordan 3, which is one of her favorite sneakers. The Eminem 2s are ok, but I’d never buy a pair. The Don C 2s are dope because of the Chanel-inspired pattern and the blue pair is dope! Personally, I love the 2. I think it's the most comfy early Jordan to wear and compared to the rest of the first 6, in MY opinion, it's the best for actually hooping in. It's actually in my top 5 retro Js to play in, 13, 10, 2, 7 and 12. Plus I think the design is one of the most clean abs elegant of all the Air Jordans. For design, my top 5 are the 2, 10, 13, 1 and 3. The 11 is cool, but a bit flashy to make that list.
The 2’s, 8’s and 10’s I think are the most under appreciated J’s in the 1-14 lineup. That’s good with me though, then I can cop ‘em for a good price since they won’t be all hyped up.

The reason why the Air Jordan 2 is one of my favorites is the Jordan video Come Fly With Me came out on my birthday in 1989. I bought it and watched it hundreds of times. The best highlights in that video came from the season Jordan wore the 2s. Ironically a few years later in High School a friend had mint condition original 2s that I bought off of him. I wore them a few times and they weren't very comfortable. I still love the high top version with black laces.
I love the Jordan 2. It's a hard shoe to release multiple successful colorways for, but it's still a great, underappreciated shoe. I seriously can't wait for the Chicago colorway to re-release.

I just traded in a majority of my 1s and 3s for a smaller collection of 2 collabs. I’d much rather wear some Union 2s and be the only person rocking a 2 than to see every person i bump into wearing a 1 or a dunk.

I remember seeing these shoes for the first time nearly 10 years after they came out. They felt weird because they didn’t look like any of the Jordans I had been seeing in the past but for some reason I gravitated to them and ever since then I liked them and have been wanting a pair till this day
*Jordan 2 is my fav shoe period what, crazy about that is until now I never own a pair, it's always been hard shoe to get it doesn't drop like regular retros. So it makes it harder to grab because folks buy them just for the resale. The og colorways and the lows are fire. One thing you never have to worry about is going out to a game, concert, or bar/club and seeing someone with the same shoe you got on if you wearing the 2's.*
IMO Don C saved the Jordan 2 from being hated on so much. Can’t be mad at any UNC/Pantone Blue themed colorway, though. Even if it’s a Jordan 2. The Melo 2s are fire, too honestly.
My Favs were the Jordan 2 x Converse pack. The light blue and white just looks amazing, and with the hints of red and black. Also the Jordan 1.5 would be a good shoe to drop on April Fools or something.
Aside from the 1's, the 2's are by far my favorite Jordan's hands down. I own 13 pairs ( 8 retros/5 Decons ) and i coped 2 pair of Nike Air Python's just because they looked like the 2's. You getting high, them shits just as nice, if not one of the best Jordans models that ever released. The only ones i didn't like was the white/black/red ones. Definitely an underappreciated model.
The Retro 2 are dope especially the new color ways that’s currently coming out and they comfortable. They are definitely a shoe you have to see on foot to get a better feel for em.
I was in high school when these came out, it’s an odd concept now but we used to wear J’s to ball in. The OG 2’s were h e a v y as hell so they weren’t anybody’s first choice. People were into the Converse weapons either the Bird black and white or the Magic’s colorway, you almost associated star players with the shoe company back then. Xavier McDaniel wore Spot Bilts, Avia was Drexler, Worthy was New Balance and so on. There was a lot of competition so the OG Jordan’s were easily passed over due to the $100 price tag.
I love the Jordan 2, actually is my favorite Jordan with the Chicago 1 being neck and neck. I have 2 pairs of the Chicago colorway and the wing it pair.
I can see the luxury idea in the shoe. The Jordan 2 is not my favorite but it’s a very nice shoe. I would love to wear a pair, but give me a 1, 3, or 4 and it’s game over for the 2s. Great video 👍

I feel like it's a luxurious shoe to wear. At least with the iguana skin, making it seem higher end like Gucci or Versace. However I would love to own a pair. Preferably all ⚫. 😅 its just my attire is mostly dark colors and I feel like that's how I get most out of my sneakers. Not a fan of light colors but if its clean I'll rock a pair.
I remember being on summer break and visiting my aunt in Texas back in '86 and we went to the mall looking for shoes. They had these in my size for $86!!! You couldn't find these shoes in my hometown and I was foaming at the mouth to get these shoes because I'd be the only kid who had them! Well, on the day we were going to get them my aunt lost her job that same day. I was devastated. I'll always love this shoe for the style but also for the 'what could have been' lol!!
The 2 was amazing. I remember that those were the most different, most coveted shoes we had ever seen in 1987. Everyone wanted those. But Nike blew it when they apparently lost the original mold. They have never looked quite the same. The toe box is too bulky and square. The original toe box had a low, sleek profile and the shoe was more narrow (or at least more form fitting). That’s how the made in Italy shoes looked and that change in subtlety changed how we now see that shoe. They also put that stupid piping on white black and red high colorway. Why??? They never retro’d the original colorway since 1994. The beauty of that shoe was the simple elegance of the all white upper, red heel support and black outsole. That piping screwed up the whole look by making it look cheap or gimmicky. Finally, the materials feel different. The original 2 had the leather that looked and felt like full-grain. The retros feel like chrome-tanned plastic coated crap. Man. If they ever get that shoe right, it will be as coveted as it used to be. Other than the recent black, white and red low retros that look similar to the originals, the other retros have been horrible. Just ugly. Nike, if you are listening or reading, fix it. Just do it.

1s are way superior to Forced or Dunks. You don't get a sneaker legacy like that for no reason

Personally, I love the 2. I think it's the most comfy early Jordan to wear and compared to the rest of the first 6, in MY opinion, it's the best for actually hooping in. It's actually in my top 5 retro Js to play in, 13, 10, 2, 7 and 12. Plus I think the design is one of the most clean abs elegant of all the Air Jordans. For design, my top 5 are the 2, 10, 13, 1 and 3. The 11 is cool, but a bit flashy to make that list.

The 2’s, 8’s and 10’s I think are the most under appreciated J’s in the 1-14 lineup. That’s good with me though, then I can cop ‘em for a good price since they won’t be all hyped up.

The reason why the Air Jordan 2 is one of my favorites is the Jordan video Come Fly With Me came out on my birthday in 1989. I bought it and watched it hundreds of times. The best highlights in that video came from the season Jordan wore the 2s. Ironically a few years later in High School a friend had mint condition original 2s that I bought off of him. I wore them a few times and they weren't very comfortable. I still love the high top version with black laces.

I bought the 2s in 2010 a few months before my son was born. They mean alot to me. I LOVE THE AIR JORDAN 2.
I love my 2s, one of the more comfortable jordan retros. durable, great traction and despite the smaller air unit the cushioning is really felt.
If we were to get that same OG Jordan 2 with Italian leather it would be $500 box price today.

I love the Jordan 2. It's a hard shoe to release multiple successful colorways for, but it's still a great, underappreciated shoe. I seriously can't wait for the Chicago colorway to re-release.

I just traded in a majority of my 1s and 3s for a smaller collection of 2 collabs.
I’d much rather wear some Union 2s and be the only person rocking a 2 than to see every person i bump into wearing a 1 or a dunk.

I remember seeing these shoes for the first time nearly 10 years after they came out. They felt weird because they didn’t look like any of the Jordans I had been seeing in the past but for some reason I gravitated to them and ever since then I liked them and have been wanting a pair till this day
*Jordan 2 is my fav shoe period what, crazy about that is until now I never own a pair, it's always been hard shoe to get it doesn't drop like regular retros. So it makes it harder to grab because folks buy them just for the resale. The og colorways and the lows are fire. One thing you never have to worry about is going out to a game, concert, or bar/club and seeing someone with the same shoe you got on if you wearing the 2's.*
IMO Don C saved the Jordan 2 from being hated on so much. Can’t be mad at any UNC/Pantone Blue themed colorway, though. Even if it’s a Jordan 2. The Melo 2s are fire, too honestly.
My Favs were the Jordan 2 x Converse pack. The light blue and white just looks amazing, and with the hints of red and black. Also the Jordan 1.5 would be a good shoe to drop on April Fools or something.

Aside from the 1's, the 2's are by far my favorite Jordan's hands down. I own 13 pairs ( 8 retros/5 Decons ) and i coped 2 pair of Nike Air Python's just because they looked like the 2's. You getting high, them shits just as nice, if not one of the best Jordans models that ever released. The only ones i didn't like was the white/black/red ones. Definitely an underappreciated model.

The Retro 2 are dope especially the new color ways that’s currently coming out and they comfortable. They are definitely a shoe you have to see on foot to get a better feel for em.
I was in high school when these came out, it’s an odd concept now but we used to wear J’s to ball in. The OG 2’s were h e a v y as hell so they weren’t anybody’s first choice. People were into the Converse weapons either the Bird black and white or the Magic’s colorway, you almost associated star players with the shoe company back then. Xavier McDaniel wore Spot Bilts, Avia was Drexler, Worthy was New Balance and so on. There was a lot of competition so the OG Jordan’s were easily passed over due to the $100 price tag.
Hakeem was with Avia too. And Ralph Samson puma's where also popular. Ewing Adidas came along in 87 too.
I have 2 different pairs of 2's they actually stand out from all the Jordans !

I feel like it's a luxurious shoe to wear. At least with the iguana skin, making it seem higher end like Gucci or Versace. However I would love to own a pair. Preferably all ⚫. 😅 its just my attire is mostly dark colors and I feel like that's how I get most out of my sneakers. Not a fan of light colors but if its clean I'll rock a pair.

I remember being on summer break and visiting my aunt in Texas back in '86 and we went to the mall looking for shoes. They had these in my size for $86!!! You couldn't find these shoes in my hometown and I was foaming at the mouth to get these shoes because I'd be the only kid who had them! Well, on the day we were going to get them my aunt lost her job that same day. I was devastated. I'll always love this shoe for the style but also for the 'what could have been' lol!!
The 2 was amazing. I remember that those were the most different, most coveted shoes we had ever seen in 1987. Everyone wanted those. But Nike blew it when they apparently lost the original mold. They have never looked quite the same. The toe box is too bulky and square. The original toe box had a low, sleek profile and the shoe was more narrow (or at least more form fitting). That’s how the made in Italy shoes looked and that change in subtlety changed how we now see that shoe. They also put that stupid piping on white black and red high colorway. Why??? They never retro’d the original colorway since 1994. The beauty of that shoe was the simple elegance of the all white upper, red heel support and black outsole. That piping screwed up the whole look by making it look cheap or gimmicky. Finally, the materials feel different. The original 2 had the leather that looked and felt like full-grain. The retros feel like chrome-tanned plastic coated crap. Man. If they ever get that shoe right, it will be as coveted as it used to be. Other than the recent black, white and red low retros that look similar to the originals, the other retros have been horrible. Just ugly. Nike, if you are listening or reading, fix it. Just do it.

Love the AJII. Definitely the underdog model. These were the most hated Jordan way before the AJXV LOL. Had the "Silver Anniversary" editions back in 2004 and they are comfy.
Had a pair of red/white lows. That one is too clean. Underrated shoe for sure.
