Elton John - Madness (1978) With Lyrics!

- From Elton John's 1978 album "A Single Man." On this album he did not work with his longtime songwriting partner Bernie Taupin. Instead he wrote with lyricist Gary Osborne. The method here was very different than it was with Taupin, which was lyrics first then Elton adding music. On this album Elton began the songs, usually writing a fair amount of lyrics himself, and then Osborne would finish off the song with complete lyrics.

the best singer of all time...
A really underrated song. This one should have been a major hit.
That entire album was Underrated. I think He still does Song For Guy live.
Unfortunately, he didn't record it at the the time that We Are The World crap was released.
Elton always manages to punch out some fine rockers, but this song would strongly represent the country and world we live in today more than it did some 40 years ago. "A World Gone Mad" is so fitting.
I was crazy about this song when I was fourteen. I'd dance to it in my almost completely dark room until I dropped in exhaustion. Amazing memories.
Brandiwell ...and probably you're not the only one 😬😁😉🎵🎵🎵
amazingly haunting and beautiful. The piano slays me.
God, what an underappreciated masterpiece of a song. Sure, Elton was better with Bernie but without him he still had some gems, like this song or pretty much the whole “The Fox” album.
I'm not really worried about who wrote the lyrics to this one. Reason being is it really is about Elton's piano talent. A lot of his his hits mainly focused on his singing. Although never released as a single, this one was great for his instrumential
He wrote a lot of good songs without Bernie. Sure without Bernie the lyrics may be sub-par compared to Bernie’s work, but musically and vocally Elton was truly crushing it. The interesting thing about “A Single Man” was that a lot of the songs were written by Elton and he contributed his own lyrics then Gary Osborne would come in and finish them.
I really liked this album, as it really showed Elton's talent rather than his showmanship.
Fantastico Elton John
Sadly, always so aptly applicable to "humanity"...
