Re: Adulthood, reminds me of The Pursuit of Happiness from Artipia. I hope it's more like that game rather than Fog of Love, we both bounced off that one very hard.
Fog of Love for us felt more like a role play experience, we would always play the opposite genders to stop it feeling realistic. But by the end we never even checked if we won or not! It was fun, but not really a boardgame experience in the traditional sense.
@BoxedMeeples we are arriving Thursday afternoon and staying till Monday. Super excited. I will probably enjoy Libbys list ad well, you both have similar tastes in games as I do. I used to play the phoenix Wright games years ago on the 3ds. I haven't played any of the newer ones. Maybe i need to.
For you first time visitors be aware: -On Thursday (annual reunion Day of GDR & FRG in 1989/1990 aka. Fall of the Berlin wall) and on Sunday regular stores outside the Fairgrounds and the Traintations are closed but Restaurants are open. -buy enough to eat and drink outside the fair grounds at bakeries. Fairground food is super expensive. Aldi at the train station for example is on of the greatest grocery store franchises in Germany. And refill your water bottles on the toilets, unfortunately we aren't civilized enough for public fountains. -wear noise canceling in the halls, the sound is unbearable some times, if you don't, your body will tell you in the evenings. -go outside and have breaks ever 2 hours, set a timer for that, because the air tends to get wasted after hours and it will take you some time to get out because of all the people. -wear comfortable shoes -take a suitcase to hall 6, you can leave and refill it there with games. Carrying them around all day is a pain. And get yourself the App Essen Spiel! so you can find your way and all the games easily on the fair ground. And if you need help, look out for groups of young people with backpacks in the train station, they might speak english and go to the Spiel! as well
Nice varied list, but both R2i and Brotherwise aren't on the exhibitor list and both games not on the BGG preview/neuheiten list. So, I guess they won't be available for demo?
Oh, that's a shame, and thanks for the info. Maybe European distributors may be carrying their games for display, but you're absolutely right the chances of playing them will be very unlikely
Brilliant reason for selecting your number one game. I’m pretty sure that the cat sprawled out on my lap is dreaming of a board game with her image on the box cover.
@joegamer6382 obviously I had to weigh up a lot of options to determine what to include, deep scientific mathematical process and a drawn out elimination system. Certainly not "look at the cute dog" at all!
I'm sure you'll enjoy it Julian, it's a real spectacle. I've not been since 2016. Hoping to get back to Spiel in the next few years. Have a great time and I'm looking forward to seeing some of your videos chronicling your trip.
@MrJonnyalpha thanks so much. We will both be filming, although we have agreed to also work on stands so might be a little different to previous conventions. I'd really appreciate any tips for Essen as at the moment it does seem rather overwhelming!
@@BoxedMeeples I've only been twice, 2011 & 2016, but I'm sure you'll be fine. My main tip would have been to do some research before you go so you don't end up aimlessly wandering around. I had a huge list of stands to visit and games to see along with a map of the convention so that I could plan my route. You're doing that already so I'm sure you'll be fine. When I went in 2011 I'd only ever been to the UKGE at the Masonic Hall in Birmingham so it did blow my mind but it was just wonderful. It might be worth booking places to eat in the evening before you go as restaurants around the city get super busy.
@@MrJonnyalpha We have been using the Tabletop Together Tool a lot. This maps out where all our game picks will be to help us plan a route through the chaos. Is it as busy there as people have said ?
@MrJonnyalpha We actually have been invited to a few meals and parties by publishers in the evening, so hopefully we won't go too hungry. Lots of fluids when we are in the halls though.
Thanks so much, we did try to have a good look at the exhibitors lists and pick games that really caught our eye. Are you going to Essen, anything you are excited about?
Great list! Thanks for your thoughts 😊 I felt inspired and did a Top 10 list myself as well. But mine is more... predictable 😅 No demo games, no expansions, only base games for sale according to the BGG preview list. Oh and no Birdwood Games games since I might just go there and say "one of each please" anyways. 10 River of Gold 9 Snowcrest 8 ito 7 FateFlip: Washed Ashore 6 Harmonies 5 Kyoto No Neko 4 Spectacular 3 Rock Hard 1977 2 Draft & Write Records 1 Age of Comics: The Golden Years Oh and I love the Ace Attorney games! We met on discord with like 5 or 6 people on a regular basis and did voiceover while one person was streaming for us. I "played" Edgeworth and my favorite character Gumshoe 😂
I envy you, Julian. I know that you're gonna have tons of fun! Adulthood looks interesting, but reminds me of Pursuit of Happiness. Fromage would be my number one. Sweet dreams are made of cheese. Who am I to dis a brie. Eurythmics
@blackboardgaming5348 Thanks, Dwane, that's now in my head for the rest of the day. Looking into to see who the European Distributor for Fromage is to see if it will be there to play. Fingers crossed, I can get hands-on with all that cheese !

@boardgamehappy5982 when will you be there? Wonder if you'll enjoy Libbys as much !
