A little bit of backstory, since people don't know the context of some key elements that happened during this round: -The station lacked a sec department, iirc the manifest said that there was a single detective on station. So command announced a public hiring call for anyone interested. -Salvage and cargo techs managed to basically make Cargo rich roundstart, and the department ended up doing basically nothing for the rest of the round. -An ion storm event happened that made Cute-Bot basically unable to be emagged (law 0 i think? said something along the lines of: Salvagers are Crew, won't accept orders from anyone else). Which will become more important later on. -As John and Marthan were stealing Cargo's lathe and shuttle, I (salvager) asked over the radio a couple times if what they were doing was allowed by QM, and so I went to look out for QM or for any secoff to report the situation, but had no luck in the process of it. -while sec and the ERT team that was sent a while back got busy figuring out what bombed Cargo, the rest of the Salv team reunited at the bar, and we waited until shit hit the fan (cuz we were waiting for evac shuttle to arrive at that point) -AI recalled evac, we stormed as quickly as possible into the armory with the help of Cute-bot (cuz of the event from before), allowing us to use Sec equipment and guns. None of which mattered in the end but yeah. That last stand in the end was so laggy even live, no wonder it is choppy in the replay lol
@MattieTedesco No I understand that but hiring for sec is often more then a "hey you, your hired." thats like hiring people off the street for the police instead of an academy.
Funny thing: After showing up nearly an hour late into the round, officer Malinn's heart became *sentient* and shut down, and there was a whole existential mid-life crisis happening in a conversation between them. He was just recovering from a "surgery" to replace it with a cow's heart (moo!) when medical was shot up the first time, and by the time he tried to come back, he was torched nearly into crit by all of the electrified doors. With a couple of shots in the side of the head, John shockenaugh stood over him and simply said: "Should have stayed out of med.."
Seeing your heart whispering to you was super funny, I could see that being its own random event for a crew member's organ to gain sentience. Probably when surgery is added though
Nice video, but the shuttle at the beginning is a prime example of the issues with Quartermaster haha. People listen to CE and CMO, I've never really seen anybody ask QM for permission for anything- but I've also never really seen the QM do anything other than act like a regular cargo worker.
Yeah exactly. I think it's due to the fact that salvage is so free to do what they want and almost assume they don't need any permission from anybody. People rush to order things. They rush to do bounties. They rush to make a salvage ship. They do whatever they want. Also forms are thrown into the trash. This is why you need a QM who makes it clear that they are the boss of cargo, but sadly, even with good RP it's hard to do anything to a crew that just... flies off. QM should have more things they can do to prevent this.
*forewarning, this is an lrp perspective, mrp and hrp can do whatever idc A bad QM is literally an attitude/skill issue, the qm can always give someone the "fuck off and die" form or a paper that would only be filled out by someone new or who reallllllly wants it/is new, but wizden neutering salvage (removing the only thing in salv/shaft miner that makes ss14 unique/irreplicable from ss13) is obviously just going to make them more tempermental/more rushed as a 1:00-1:30 round had maybe 40 minutes of "fuck around/gamerloot" time (barely enough usually, since a good part of that is being sidetracked/being dead/mining/dealing with that-thing-you-forgot-on-station) once everything was set up and mistakes were accounted for, BEFORE the shuttle was removed, since qm gets nothing special they need to wield their massive BDE from being the cargo wrangler to get shit done, otherwise they are just another crate pusher and should wait till their attitude gets more robust @@celexample
@nuclearpaste Can you actually fire people as the bosses? Like I know you could call security and talk to HoP to remove their ID privileges but can the QM/CE/CMO actually do it themselves? Also can you give some examples of what a QM can do once their more robust? That's not sarcasm I'm genuinely curious cuz on paper I like the role, I just don't enjoy how I've seem people play it.
@celexample Yeah, it's not even really like a bad rp thing, it's just that they aren't... needed? The CE and CMO can actually prioritize things, but cargo is so laid back that the best a QM can really do is tell people directly "you go handle bounties." Nobody ever asks permission for orders, no matter how ridiculous they are. It's not a bad player thing, it's just the job doesn't have any real urgency, and doesn't need the organization of engi and med. I've seen cargo run perfectly fine and be loaded with cash and salvage without a QM plenty of times. I'm sure that happens with engi and medi too but leadership roles there are a much bigger deal.
marthan aurelius here, so my plan was originally to just use the friendship cannon and blow up as much as i can while i still had grenades, so i started on cargo then realized how little gold we had, so i ended up holding onto most of the grenades that i got after the borg came back with gold, i actually ended up direct impacting the ERT as they had hopped out of the shuttle and jetpacked over, so they died almost instantly, in addition to john shockenaugh being a syndicate in security, there was also a second traitor in security which was Balthazaar, seen at 4:00 in the vid, i also made sure that Balthazaar, John, and my borg were able to evac on the cargo shuttle that i had left outside, so they managed to hop back on board and escape alive, but that has to be one of my absolute favorite rounds of ss14, thank you to John and my borg for being 2 very amazing teammates o7
I was the salv there, honestly I kinda knew they were syndies from the moment they took the console. I thought I could get them to give it up so I wouldn't snitch and they didn't have to go loud. There was another thought to go back inside and just tell the QM / sec..... hindsight 20/20? EDIT: I should mention that the people at the end are not actual secoffs, the secoffs were dead and it was me with another salv, a borg and some random people trying to mount a last stand.
As an AI/rogue AI, my favourite way to make a room inaccessible is to bolt the doors then turn power off, because bolted, powered off doors are very hard to open.
Wait I think I was in this round! There was like 2 bombs planted around the station which got defused, and 1 training bomb early on I think. Doesn't look like I made it in the video, but I was an atmos tech who immediately started to break into the AI core once the AI got anti'd. I made it in there by RCDing the 2 main doors and hacking into the super secure doors, but they had broken the law console and I spent the rest of the round trying to figure out how to disconnect the AI instead (I'd run out of RCD charges) I managed to survive the nuke by throwing myself off the station at the end and watched it go up in flames it was actually cinematic. I'd felt terrible that I wasn't able to do shit about the antimov'd AI despite managing to get in the core though :(
Idk what happened for sure, but he probably requested to join sec earlier in the round and was mindshielded by them. Mindshields do not convert syndicate agents, so accepting one as a turncoat secoff is a good way of infiltrating security without raising much suspicion
Sec impersonator here. It helps your credibility if you regularly play security, do your security job and apply legally instead of using agent ID/chameleon gear. I wasn't even the only traitorsec this round; HOS gave both of us tracking implants instead of loyalty for some reason.
@@КартофельныйАлексей Sorry for English. The reason OP mentioned mind shield, is because Security is able to see who is shielded, and who is not. If they see a person wearing Security equipment without a mind shield, they will know that person is not a real Security officer.
The thing is also stealing the console as well so if you leave cargo cannot recover the shuttle. Had someone do that on delta v, it sucked so much. We couldn't do any cargo work and engi ran out of ame fuel so everything went dark... At least we were able to get a gen to power pa for tesla, but someone didn't read the modifications to Tesla on delta v (tesla decays on delta v, set pa to level 2 to counter decay) so tesla died and we had to leave.
