Although it's nice without the fence, I wonder if it was there as a windbreak, or to keep animals out. Also. I think you could have a problem with what looks like Himalayan Balsam, if it is, don't, whatever you do, let it seed. It's extremely pretty, but I was foolish enough to let one flower and seed 30 years ago, and my 22 acres, has never been free of it since. I wish I had NEVER SEEN IT.
The Himalayan Balsam & brambles are going to be delighted to spread into your allotment now the green netting is gone, bit of serious work ahead of you there Sean.

Hi Sean ..I'm not sure but I think that the plant growing behind the fence that you removed looks like the Himalayan Balsam ..it's highly invasive so perhaps the net screening was there to prevent it's seeds blowing in ...your advised nor to touch it until winter while it's dormant as the flowers contain thousands of seeds !
@@christinerees50 I am hoping to get trained soon to remove HB. As a prelude I uprooted about 100 plants from the banks of the allotment stream just to get a feel for how it grows and before the seeds were set, because I knew I would have to bag the flower heads once the seeds were set. So getting to many of them early meant a far easier task. The seeds do not blow in, they explode. 😂 Since Sean has experience of Mare's Tails and Bindweed, he will not enjoy HB but it is a real weakling compared to those at least. When you cannot uproot, cut below the lowest node to kill it. It is an annual. You will not locate it in winter unless very tiny seedlings that are harder to find. Now is the time to deal with it. It is obvious. Unfortunately with so many roses and plants to plant, half a shed still to paint, and weak knees, HB on a steep slope might not be top of the list of jobs, as well as making video content, housework, looking after two cats and volunteer work. It certainly was not one of my tasks until Thames21 asked to come into our gates to remove it and our chairman finally agreed. I will learn more about it soon and may be able to advise better.
Hi Sean, isn’t the fencing there to stop the deer, rabbits etc from coming in and eating your vegetables and roses? As they have put substantial netting, galvanised metal and even barbed wire up, they must of had a problem?
Maybe to stop the chickens and turkeys getting out and thieves getting in?

It's more likely to be there to stop the spread of the Himalayan Balsom which you have outside of the fence and a few smaller ones in your garden, the netting is probably there to stop the seeds spreading, they can flick out upto 1 meter, only a suggestion just pull them out of the ground and dispose of them correctly as they very invasive but easy to remove, hope this helps.
When I bought a new shed a few years ago, I had the same problem as you with table. Bought a folding table didn't fit width wise so I had to place it like yours. I don't mind it, I use it mostly for potting up pots.Love your bench,you only need a cushion and blanket then you can have a nap.😊 Listening to the river .

Sean I would have thought the fencing by the river was to stop intruders from getting on your homestead as now they will have easy access to your plot and shed.
They would have to use a boat and climb over a mountain first.
The bit of wood thats in the way . ....If its the batten next to the window , you could cut a section out and make space for the table to slide in . Then reinnforce the area from the outside ....if i am reading the situation tight .

No idea what that is. Will have to research.
Himalayan balsam is a thug of a plant when it gets too big with seed pods that almost ‘explode’ when ripe and throw the seeds out like little missiles….thats how it spreads everywhere. I guess that is why the green enviromesh was put on the fences. When you see HB as a young plant it’s very easy to pull it out and easy to manage that way.

Sean, I think with the river spreading it you are going to have a annual problem with the Himalean Balsam. That green scaffolding netting would have helped stop it spreading onto the Homestead. I know you have a lot on but you have only a couple of weeks before the seeds start spreading. Because of the river seeds are spread in the winter floods
I and a group of volunteers spend Sunday morning pulling it to try and remove it from parts of our local nature reserve.

Another suggestion from a fellow gardener. When you get the scrub cut down for the river view, put two to three layers of cardboard down and mulch on top to keep it from growing back. It isn’t a permanent solution but nothing is, and it might kill it all off over a couple of years and you could plant it.
Sean, I’d get nothing done on the homestead because it would be way too tempting to sit on that lovely bench and enjoy the river!

Sean, if you get solar lights you can put the solar part in the window or outside and string the lights in the shed. Ive rigged my whole place with solar lights that way lol 😆
Lights will be going up in September.
It used to be a game when I was a kid popping the seed pods of himalayan balsam, to see how far they would explode, little did I know I was spreading the damn things, they are very pretty flowers but my God they spread like wildfire, they always grow near water and there was a river near our house, it's a wonder we didn't bring them home ie seeds on the soles of our shoes, I would take the flowers off them Sean before they turn to seed,
Wouldnt it be easier to just build a table to fit across the end of the shed?
Get a hack saw and saw off a bit of the table, the edge would be up against the side of the shed

Your homestead is coming together beautifully. I do worry that the fencing that separated the land from the river was there for your safety. In any event, good job on your allotment.
You have to take one fence down to put up the new one though.
First thing that went in to our shed was a worktop, gas stove, kettle, tea and coffee all this before the door went on.

Thanks for the update... Love the bench....and the trellis, and... oh the river view I can just iimagine..., with a cup o tea......Here in the N.W. corner of Oregon U.S.A.....I survived the Independence Day neighborhood neither safe nor sane, fireworks celebration......big mortars, not allowed.... nobody was listening...it was more like a competition of ...watch this...here hold my beer...I hosed down my roof, and yard... in eager anticipation....not!....and this year....with bigger mortars, then the original revolution..the battle raged past midnight...sod that! and a game of soldiers....as you said....However on the 5th. Of July, now that is always, when the hot weather starts, and right on que..it popped up from 70's to 87° f. Well that's it for me...humidity is high, by the big river and ocean...and I feel like a melting snowman...I know many others have hotter weather, bless you...I had to get up at 5 A.M. to get everything watered before we baked all day..(got peas to pick in the garden soon)....and then I just chased the shade around the house...that's the update from an old gardener across the pond, and then, across the states, to the ocean...cant wait to see your river view....going to be so nice. Not as much as you might think, I have a table like that and there are criss-crossing supports underneath.
The animals are going to come in and chew all you plants down with the fence gone.

Make sure you get rid of the green netting in a safe way Sean - its terrible stuff for wildlife getting tangled up in it.
Looks like a case for getting the angle grinder out to me - don’t think slicing off a couple of inches off the end/s will affect the strength or function of the table😊
When the plastic rose in the wind, I thought for a minute you had a white dog keeping you company.

It is so exciting opening up your Homestead to the river. Wonderful to hear the sound of the running water. As you have mentioned before, I hope that the ducks do not come through to eat your plants in your Homestead! You may also get rats of course, being near the river. The joys of lovely wildlife. Your wonderful plants all look so healthy, all sitting there, waiting to be planted in their new places. I love your little shed, just perfect for having a nap and a cup of tea in, and to watch the river. It is all coming together nicely, with a lot of hard work from yours truly. xxx
The rats would come whether there is a fence or not. Was going to start feeding birds but have thought against it for that very reason.
The rapsody blue rose one looks purple to me and you did seem to describe it as looking blue to you. I'm thinking that you are colour "blind" red-green deficiency? My husband has that and he describes purple as blue. I thought the same in a previous video when you said that you had only ever seen blue verbena. But verbena are purple to me as well. He also thinks that pink and grey look quite similar. And he describes red as being a very dark colour - probably like what I would describe as maroon.

I have a few rose bushes in my garden. One is a climbing tea rose with a lovely delicate scent.
I’ve a bench like yours, in the winter I pop it in the garage in winter to protect it from the weather. Hopefully you can do that with yours and put it in the shed.
It looks a lovely location for the homestead. I love the sound of water, there’s a river not far from me. When we’ve had heavy rain the river is really loud. ❤ I find it relaxing listening to it.

The plan is to remove the table by Christmas when the internal wood has been built. It can then be used outside.

Hello Sean I agree with other comments Himalayan Balsam growing, in our local woodland it's a nightmare for the Rangers keeping it down, it has been left to grow in an area that is completely screened off in a similar way as you have there. Your homestead is going to be a super place to sit and watch the wild life .

Is your trellis made with treated wood? If not, maybe you could use that same wood preservative you used on the shed. They would match.
Could you get an offcut of kitchen worksurface you can permanently mount across the back of the shed? I did thst and it was wonderful and heat proof and wipeable. You can cut it down as slightly narrower too and just great in a shed x

an idea for your shed table - you could use some kitchen worktop held up by batons on each side and the back attached to the shed wall with just one supporting leg in the middle. you can then cut it to fit exactly.
Totally. I did that and got a free offcut that was perfect and just made it slightly narrower. Strong and sturdy and wipeabke and heatproof. Ideal.
That fencing was there for a reason Sean. The vegetation and wildlife will invade your space very quickly if you remove it 😮
That’s the idea.
There is a special tool for those clips, makes removing clips so easy. Paint fences black with metal paint, use a small roller. Then re purpose them. They are expensive to buy. Are the stands with the fences ? if so use them to grow beans and peas up them. I can see barb wire be careful. Where are your gloves ? Remember safety first ! 👍❤️👍
They aren’t mind as I’ve said hundreds of times, they need returning to their owner.

Hi Sean, how will you deal with nettles and brambles (in a few weeks these can take over if not managed)? I am really excited that I thought I read that you want to attract wildlife. Do you have a plan? I manage spaces like this but the veg beds are separate and weed free and at least 10 metres from the wild areas. I think orchards (like fruit trees) with mowing underneath may be one easy solution instead of veg beds and these attract wildlife too. Somehow the trees suppress the problematic species (I assume competition for light and resources in the soil) but someone may educate me. 😊
No wildlife will be attracted, the others will be removed.
For the past 2 or 3 videos Sean I could see you were losing weight.

You should be able to trim one or both sides of the Table. If it's made of a plastic compound or lighter metal for example aluminum. Importantly use a FINE blade and absolutely make sure you use EYE protection. Or get someone to help you. Then cover the new trimmed end with tape to avoid potential sharp edges
Just a idea you might consider but be careful.
Will leave it as it is because in time, over winter, I’ll be building inside benches etc out of wood, so can then use the table outside.
The table so nearly fits across the end of the shed. Could you shave a smidgeon off one end so that it does fit? It would give you a lot more usable space to move about in.
You can trim off the edge of the table so it fits in the space you want it.
The fence that was there seemed to be held in place by brambles. If the slope down to the river is steep, it would be difficult to clear out a view. I think i would still put up a barrier of some kind. I think you need a nice hammock or a reclining lawn chair for your power naps. 🙂🇨🇦

@@seanjamescameron I had bunnies years ago. I cover most crops but tbh I share my space with all of the wildlife. I get some redcurrants I get some gooseberries (I cover most brassicas) wildlife is as important to me than what I take home 🤩
Morning Sean, good progress happening on the homestead.
keep those heras fence panels and clips and repurpose them into a fruit cage, it’s easily done just clip it back together the size you want it, and will keep the birds off all those berries as long as you net it👍🏼🏴
Not my fencing. It’s being returned to the previous owner.
@@seanjamescameronJust a suggestion. May not be feasible. Maybe you could make the previous owner an offer. This might be the cheapest solution. Put it in a builders corner and keep it for projects or for stopping pests getting in like deer.

Hi Sean, Maz here from Tasmania Australia, just had a thought, you might be able to use a piece of the fence that you took down, (( from the river)) to use on the corner of the homestead where you originally wanted to put the lattice for the climbing rose. Just a thought

Hi Sean, Do you think you ought to buy another shed just to keep your trolley and tools in? if that table is too big for inside that shed , you can leave it outside so that you can sit outside on sunny days and have a cup of tea and a barbecue using it.
I fitted a couple of kitchen worktop off cuts, in my shed then you can have it the height you want etc also not too deep. Just a thought.

Breakfast with Sean. In view of possible predators, could you make the fence you have just moved to slide across.. Open it up when you are on the homestead and close it before you leave. This would protect your vegetables and beautiful plants from unwanted visitors. They make quite a show against the shed wall.

Hi me again I've been googling himalayan balsam and its an invasive species like Japanese knotweed I'd take a look to be on the safe side but i bet you already have🙂 no room to fart love it
I saw a clump of HB on a walk once. The seeds were actually popping out of the pods!
Do you wear gloves when you garden or work outside. That galvanized metal is rusty and looks sharp as does the barbed wire. Gloves might be a consideration. Think people have sent you some.
I did have gloves on but prefer not too.

Sounds like it was probably an outside measurement vs an inside measurement. I've done that in the past as well and found I was off by just the couple of inches that a wall took up. Either way, even temporary, it allows you to face the windows when you are doing something and that can't be all bad! Maybe consider starting a hedge row to act as a windbreak down the road.

Oh I love that bench, that’s a beautiful size. It’s so exciting seeing the homestead develop bit by bit. If you think you’ve only been back in Wales approximately 24 weeks, you’ve done so well.
I’ve got a sign to hang up in your shed I got made & it’s arrived this morning but unfortunately so has that nasty c bug, my daughter did a home test & hers is positive so it’s bound to get me. Once it’s gone I will post it down to you.

I've searched the internet looking for chandos beauty for sale in US and can't find it. Perhaps a fellow viewer can recommend a place to buy one here?
Is that Himalayan balsam back there with pink flowers? If so it is very invasive I would assume that is why you have a net back there, to keep the seeds away. Now that you have opened up that area the ducks will pay you a visit. They are apparently helpful in the garden they eat slugs but only the female does. Thanks for taking us along Sean.

Re the table even if only a temporary measure being near the window you'll be able to grow seedlings there!
You did well moving that fencing! If it was to stop animals coming in (as someone else suggested) there's nothing to stop you putting something else up that looks more rustic?
Don't forget to put a roof covering on the shed, I had a shed where the felting had come off, I left it too long and then the wood started to rot and water started coming in! Not good!
I would paint the trellis with wood preserve if not treated but that is just me! That will look fab with the roses growing against it!
I think your bench looks great! That will be a lovely spot once the undergrowth is cleared. 🙂
