- We are excited to reveal one of the most anticipated rooms inside our first-ever spec home-the kitchen! Join Shea as she shares her expertise on mixing hardware, layering lighting, and designing a kitchen layout in the latest spec home webisode.
In the kitchen, Shea created symmetry by framing the hood and adding floor-to-ceiling cabinetry that looks more like a piece of furniture than a kitchen functionality staple. “The other part of this layout that’s really unique is a long stretch of cabinetry from the kitchen all the way into the pantry,” she explains. “Instead of having a pocket door or some sort of division it is all connected, so you get this beautiful view when you are standing in the great room. This played into a lot of the decisions we made throughout the kitchen.” When designing the pantry, Shea intentionally constructed the visible corner cabinetry to be beautiful at all times and placed the less-sightly food storage around the corner.

The range hood and backsplash are the standouts for me. It reminds of an 18th century hearth. Amazing work as always.
I absolutely love your style and this kitchen is incredible! I would love to see you build and style a house on a budget that the average person could purchase. I would love a home like this and I'm sure many people would but it's just not realistic for most of us and for me it's hard to visualize these grand features toned down in a smaller space. Your work and style is out of this world and I will continue to watch and envy it.:)

I really like the "timeless" colors in the kitchen. So happy to hear you say "We have transitioned out of the pop of color i.e. island." I redid my kitchen (on a budget) in 2021 and i felt that the two-tones color combo was on it way out. You proved me right! Also we are on the same page for high end neutral drapes (very similar to the color of the wall paint- YES!)
Beautiful. I started seeing the stone backsplash being used in the kitchen over a year ago with other designers and wondered if it was easy to clean.

Another gorgeous design! I love the drawer style of microwave, but in my new kitchen after thinking about it, I decided against it. I think as I am aging, getting down on my knees to clean the splatter on the inside top of the microwave would be too difficult. Yes, I use a splatter guard, but my husband sometimes forgets. Real life.

great layout. Similar to mine only that I stashed the main big sink just behind the wall so no one sees the messy plates, but also added washing machines at the far end wall. free flow is so cute. coz the pantry is a pantry but don't look too enclosed and thrown off.

love everything except on the back splash above the oven i find the color dull something darker will look better maybe black or any darker color that will make that part of the kitchen pop...

Absolutely beautiful magnificent kitchen. The area extending and going behind the kitchen. I’m not sure if I would’ve called that pantry. I’m a little confused. It looks fantastic. Don’t get me wrong and it’s really practical. I just have trouble with calling in a pantry. Is it more like a Butler’s pantry maybe or even a scullery I just have different view in my head of a pantry I kind of think of my grandmother‘s pantry where you would walk in and see lots of jarred, canned food containers with grain in it, so you can mill your own flour, you should cabinet with meat on it. This is what I think of when I think of a pantry it’s a place was just food storage at the end of my grandmother‘s pantry. There were steps going down, which led you down to two roots sellers you had the cool, dry, dark root cellar, and then the cool, damp, dark root cellar where she would store a large portion of fruits and vegetables, also to side down, she had a large walk-in refrigerator and then inside the refrigerator. There was another door which led into a walk-in freezer. My grandparents were all about the kitchen and food as they produce and grow and raise a good 90% of their own food. so I have difficulty seeing it as a pantry. It’s not what I imagine in my mind. I think it needs another name lol.

I LOVE that kitchen except..the lighter color cabinets are so much prettier than the stained ones. I would have had the whole L- shaped kitchen match. The kitchen looks (modern) French country & the stained cabinets look like Scan design. Just me...

What I notice is a terrible shortage on higher end homes for retirees.
They don't want stairs, freestanding bathtubs are way too dangerous and hard to get in to, they don't need seating for 16 in the kitchen area or two dining areas plus a breakfast bar, no movie theater, or giant open chef kitchen with state of the art ovens and stoves. Tall kitchen cabinets are just dumb because they avoid climbing
Instead they need his and her primary suite, his and her computer place, a generous space for their hobbies, a rather shallow swimming pool with spa they can get into without stumbling or climbing, showers with build in seats, a semi hidden kitchen because they don't want to cook anymore and don't eat much.
They need wide (4'+) traffic areas and generous space around beds.
A little gym would be nice to warm the limbs up in the morning.
What is offered is so plain, cheap, boring and basic that people with a little more money don't want it.
Builders in warmer states are missing an important market because these customers often pay cash
and make quick solid decisions.
