    I love your films, love your delivery, I'm from Bristol. I come back to your films usually because I've been hooked in again, usually by ebay. It's an F2 in the post and I'm really excited.

    Something I found very handy when I was using the Nikon F2, was a combination of the H2 focusing screen and the DL-1 meter illuminator. This combination allowed for fast focusing and the DL-1 allowed metering the camera even in very low light conditions.
    These videos bring back memories of my F2 which was my first camera and was also black (my favourite camera colour).
    It is funny how times have changed! In those days I dreamed of owning a couple of zoom lenses, now I use mainly fixed focal length lenses! LOL

    Thanks for explaining the different finder for the F2. I used to have a Nikkor 28mm 3.5 HC that I used on my old Nikkormat FTn. Picked up a soft shutter release as well. Very smooth.

    Thanks for the overview. Just got this camera and this was a big help, especially on the lens mounting. Again, thanks.

    Very informative video!...I've owned F2's since the mid-seventies and it's hands-down, my favorite 35mm SLR film camera. Thanks to this video I've learned about some features of the F2 that I never actually used or knew about.
    I just picked up minty F2A & F2AS for my collection both in black....I would never have been able to afford these back in the day.... :)

    Once again I thank you for a very informative video. I have also just purchased Nikon F2 and I am waiting for it's delivery.
    Your cameras always seem to pristine and almost mint, if not mint. Mine always seem to have a few dints and bonks
    in them. Patina I think they call it. Love them all anyway. Beautifully and solidly built. Cameras today are constructed
    like cell phones and will mostly likely be treated similarly...........Cheers

    I always have a hard time focusing the 28mm f/3.5, I like to shoot it at 3.5 to get the softer edges, and I am always rechecking the distance scale to see if it "seems like the right distance"

    Very informative. Was your camera serviced by Sover? Also, I was under the presumption that the shutter speed needs to be set to the red line (1/80 sec) rather than 1/60 sec when using a flash.

    • @Samsung9alaxy
      @Samsung9alaxy  6 років тому

      Yes, my camera was serviced by Sover! X (1/80th sec) is the maximum flash sync speed. Lower speeds can also be used!

    Thank you for these 2 videos on Nikon F2 which proved very handy. I have a question for you about the flash unit. Do you know the difference between SB-7E and SB-7E?

    • @Samsung9alaxy
      @Samsung9alaxy  8 років тому +1

      I assume you mean the SB-8e! The SB-7e is designed for the F2, while the SB-8e has a standard ISO type foot. The specifications of both units are the same.

      Thank you for your reply. I am referring to SB-7. I recently bought one as I could not find SB-7E. It has an adapter socket at the back next to on/off switch. It is identical to SB-7E but I can't find what would be the difference between the two. Read it somewhere that SB-7 can be powered by an adapter. Just need to know if there are any other differences.

      +Omar Mashedy I have done some research and it appears the only difference is that the SB-7 allows the use of an external power source. Good find as it's rarer than the 7e.

    • @hugotipple
      @hugotipple 6 років тому

      What about the SB-2. It doesn't require the AS-1. It seems to be rarer than the SB-7 or SB-7E but the price is usually lower. Do you know why? I bought one because of the release year that is closer to the year of my F2 (1974) but it hasn't arrive yet. Someone told me that it's bigger than the SB7(E). Maybe that's why it's less popular? or is it just because people hear more about the SB-7(E) - due to the bigger amount available on the market - and therefore look for it more making the price higher?

    I am just about to buy an F2 with the DP-1 finder. Just have one question. If i want to use a hand held meter in manual. Is it a case of winding on the film lever to advance the film the switch the DP-1 off by pushing the film advance lever back to the body ( not in stand off position)
    The shutter will fire?
    Thank you

    Hi again. I found an F2 photomic I want but can’t seem to find a solution to an easy problem. I need +2 diopter lens on the finder but want to also have the rubber ring styled eyecup you have on yours. Is there a way I can have both a +2 diopter and rubber ring eyecup on my F2 ? Thanks a lot.

    • @Samsung9alaxy

      Yes, you can read the exposure meter when you look through the viewfinder. On this DP-1 finder you see a needle at the bottom of the display along with the aperture & shutter speed.

    What happens when you put one of the newer nikon lenses on the F2 Film camera? Will it work?

    • @Samsung9alaxy
      @Samsung9alaxy  10 років тому

      It depends what you mean by "work". All Nikon's F mount lenses will mount on the F2 but with different functionality.
      With Photomic heads with the coupling pin (like mine), the lens must have a coupling shoe (or rabbit ears) to meter. Otherwise you would have to use a handheld meter.
      The F2A or F2AS (with a AI coupling ridge) will meter with all AI or AIS mount lenses (which include AF, AF-D, AF-S and AF-I lenses), but not G lenses that have no aperture ring.
      Obviously you will not get autofocus or vibration reduction features on any F2.

    • @Kref3
      @Kref3 8 років тому

      +Crystal Chai
      Oh this is really simple:
      The pre-AI heads (Photomic, S, SB) need the rabbit ear coupling prongs, the post-AI heads (A and AS) need the AI lenses with the notch in the coupling ring.
      All pre-AI lenses, all AI lenses and all AIS lenses have the prongs and will therefore work without problem on Photomic, S and SB.
      For use with A and AS you will need a coupling ring with the AI notch. Equipped with the AI notch are lenses marked AI, AIS, AF, AF-D and AF-S (not AF-S G!!! those do not have a aperture ring and cannot be used with any manual body).
      AF and AF-D lenses usually are not equipped with coupling prongs and cannot be used with pre-AI heads, pre-AI lenses are usually not equiped with AI notches and cannot be used with post-AI heads.
      But it was no problem to upgrade pre-AI lenses with AI notches and then they would be working without any problem. I even heard, that it is possible, to attache coupling prongs to AF and AF-D lenses to make them work with pre-AI heads.
      Easy, isn't it? :)
      To make the complicated story short: As long as you go for manual lenses without any AF function:
      Option 1: Get a pre-AI head (Photomic, S or SB) and use any manual lens with it, they all come with the prong.
      Option 2: Get a post-AI head (A or AS) and either get only AI or AIS lenses or pre-AI lenses upgraded to AI standard (most pre-AI lenses at ebay are upgraded and can be used).
      If you also use another camera with auto focus, a DSLR or F4 or F801 or something and if you therefore want to use AF lenses, forget the pre-AI and get an F2A or F2AS.
      I would probably get an F2A or F2AS for I have a few AF-D lenses that would work perfectly well with this while I do not own any pre-AI lenses and should I ever feel the need to buy an old pre-AI lens I would get an upgraded one.

      @@Kref3 why bother with all that when you are only going to use the items as decorations?

    • @Kref3
      @Kref3 Рік тому

      @@daktarioskarvannederhosen2568 What makes you think that Chrystal Chai considers her film equipment decoration? Or that I would do so?
      Although this comment is 7 years old, my Nikon F2AS (which I bought in the meantime) takes considerably more shots out in the field than my Sony A7RII. The Sony takes mor photos in total, because next to the few digital images I take with it outside my lab it also stands on a camera stand equipped with a 105mm macro lens as my negative scanner, used to digitalize all my negatives from all my analog cameras (Nikon F2AS, Nikon FM3a, Rolleiflex 3.5E, Hasselblad 501CM).
      On very few occasions the Sony leaves the lab, usually with a 16-35 f/4.
      If I go to some new city with the plan, to take pictures, I always take either one of the Nikons with one 36 image BW film or the Rollei with two rolls of 12 image BW film. Almost never the sony.

  • @daktarioskarvannederhosen2568

    if that camera were mine then the first thing i would do is remove that strap which features steel pieces on it that will scratch up that apparently new-old stock f2.
